HBO 1987 Movie Intro

When you saw this intro or the classic "space" intro, it put you into that zone as if a movie on tv was a big thing back then, now not so much.

something about this intro reminds me of Entertainment Tonight. i guess it's all subject to the age you were when you saw it, but as an objective comparison, isn't the HBO in space with the intro panning out over the model town from an apartment much more grand and interesting?!

I lived in the 80's i miss it so much, had so much fun in those days not like today where everything is so screwed up at the point of no return if we stayed on the 80's track this country would be in a better position than it is now.

Weird, I can't even tell the last time I saw this. It's funny that I remember the visual of this intro more than the others, but the music doesn't even ring a bell. Meanwhile, I totally remember the 1983 music.

I believe Pacific Data Images handled the animation for this. They did the NBC "Let's All Be There" logo and many other TV animations before doing animated movies like the Madagascar series.

This and HBO In Space were the 2 best intros HBO ever had -- and we were lucky they kept them going as long as they did, well into the late 90s. Thanks HBO!

This one and both versions of the Cinemax geometric palette movie intro's were the ones that stuck with me throughout my childhood. The music on these were so memorable, and so sticky, that I would unconsciously whistle out the tunes at school. Some of the teachers caught on to them when they would hear me, they asked me; why I was watching paid TV at my age (7-12yrs I believe). I hope these intro's come back to commemorate the old times.

i had a taped copy of peewees big adventure and always thought that chiming at the intros end was part of the intro to the peewee film cause it gave me the vibe of the music that played right when the movie started

I always enjoyed this intro as well, though the HBO in Space(feel stupid I never remember its official name) one from '83 remains my all-time fav one. The new ones that they've used(since I guess around sometime in the late '90s/early 2000s) really stink, versus the classic openings like this one.

Epic Intro, and this should still be used. This was first used in late 86 not 87. My first video recording from December 1986 was of Rocky 4 and Starman back to back and this intro was played before both movies. I still have the vhs tape almost 24 years later. Still plays as good as day one.

This is not the best HBO intro, that would go to the 1983 version. This particular intro was used from 87 to somewhere in the early 90's. I love watching these, it takes me back to a time when I didn't have to worry about a thing, however, now I have my own kid, and hopefully I can share moments like watching an HBO intro with her. That sounds corny I know.

This intro SUCKED compared to the original one. I do remember this and making fun of the drum beat when i was a kid just before Tales from the crypt came on. This brings back memories from those days. Watching these old intros takes me back to those good ole days.
