I learned that it is the part of the antler shedding which I did not know either and surprisingly even the animals rescue had no idea. Although I am glad you have salvaged the carcass and ate it I wish you never killed the animal to begin with. Unless yours is about pure necessity we do not need to kill in order to survive imagine how much you and your family could live healthy on non-meat diet? Have you also though about CWD or Mad Deer Disease?
I'm trying not to argue because you've been nice so far. My familly does great with a balanced diet. We don't gorge on red meat, but we consume the proper amount of veggies, grains, and meats. my kids snack on carrot sticks not jerky or candy bars. Venison is much healthier than beef because it has not had growth horemones or anywhere near the amount of fat beef does. By consuming controlled amounts my very active kids get a lot of protein and have energy to burn like cub scout hikes.
There are PLENTY of protein in veggies like soy, kale, spinach, nuts, seeds, so why use animals as a source of protein.? You are "worried" about hormones but do you consume milk? How about cheese and other dairy products because that is where tons of hormones are too. Do you think about mad deer disease and CWD. (read past comment on that subject)

So you are against these people who feed deer? Is that it? Shooting a deer is still better than watching the starve in the winter. I looked up that stuff about infertility shots, way to expensive to even make a dent if it could happen......need more hunters.....

well lady, I watched a pile of deer (ext 500, I have been told, in this area) starve to death this winter. I would rather see those 10 get wounded and die after a day or so than watch that many die over several months of starvation.

Starvation is the part of wildlife and nothing one can do about it. We know 'hunting' do not help at all but worsens it. There are risk in human lives everyday, look at the millions of starving children thruout the world should you just shoot them ? You are so "worried" about deer starvation how about other critters that may get hit by cars or "starve to death" The fact is since 'hunting' there's been more deer then ever before and states with the most always had the most deer.

Deer have almost no predetors except for us. Ever heard of over population? If not for us There would be so many deer they would starve to death. there wouldn be enough food for all of them to survive.

also 68,000? i think you messed up somewhere even if that was the right number, how many deer do you see along the high ways how many do you think get hit? just add your 68,000 to that. And infertility shots? thats pretty stupid it wouldn even make a dent Up here they tried that in a park the shot just made the doe have her fawn later in the year (winter) and both the fawn and the mother died they SUFFERED at least when you shoot a deer most of the time it dont even know what hit it.

Really, why does it seem like the states with the most deer has the most wildlife serial killers? Why is it that deer vehicle accident has gone up as the result of hunting. NOT DOWN.. I mean years of using 'hunting' as a way to "reduce" deer population and dva's yet it keep getting worse. Maybe its because deer are intentionally cultivated to satisfy the wildlife serial killers.?

The fact is that proper wildlife management keeps deer populations at stable levels. This allows more deer to inhabit the same amount of land and maintain health. Thus the population is greater due to the stability of the populations perfect number for the amount of avaliable forage.
All your saying is that hunting helps support a higher healthy deer population.. and you have a problem with that because?

Predators are carnivorous animal and deer know they could be a danger but human are not flesh eating killers and we are to be their caretaker. Man does not need to be in the woods killing for recreational purpose by the millions each year.

In Wisconson last year the deer harvest was 140k total. Obviously you can see how this proves your number to be false. In 20 years of hunting I have NEVER lost a single deer period... not a damn one. Yet somehow you say every hunter in a state looses 1 out of 3.. I call bullcrap.

its not a tumor, the deer has broken one of its tines and its hanging by the velvet that is still on the antlers, it will bleed till the velvet dries up and falls off, nothing to worry about.

Thank you jda I had a feeling it may not be a tumor but someone else told me it was. If you see the video response you can see how rastaman looked with full beautiful crown. His velvet did fall off. He has not been seen since deer killing season and I fear he has become a victims to the heartless kill for his beautiful antlers. What wrong with people who need to kill because something is beautiful.!!

People arent allowed to kill deer because they are beautiful.. they cull deer to keep the population at a stable level. This prevents horrible crash and boom cycles between predator/prey that lead to mass starvation and disease.
We cull the few so the many may survive. Why do you think it is that we are allowed to harvest more does than bucks?

Without hunting our wilderness would be full of diseased and starving deer.. and I imagine that have a few of pathetic looking deer in your yard would make you much more sad than having a yard full of healthy deer even if a very small number of the population must be culled yearly.

It's either an illness or trauma to the body that can make the antlers crooked. Look at Nephesh my little angel deer he was hit by a car (broken leg) and see his antler its too crooked.
They are beautiful creatures of God that God put them on this earth so human can appreciate their beauty ALIVE. Only GOD has that power to take their life away not man.
