I'd imagine a class of 2100 would be teaching nuclear fusion basics to primary school and teenagers would be learning how to man the plants as technicians and scientists. I'd also imagine that the teacher himself would be working at the plant or has at least worked at one for a given period of time.

Most politicians aren't even aware of Polywell designs or their potential, let alone understand its implications for civilian use. @fakemadereal There is. By using nanostructure shielding, it is possible to construct a photovoltaic cell which will charge by thermal energy.
I'm not actually sure how much more efficient it is, but it seems to me that a good rule is: the fewer energy transformations needed, the better.

@a2zhandi The Navy will probably do exactly what any of us would expect them to do: use it as a powerplant for next gen designs which, with that much power, could undoubtedly include directed-energy weapons. Most politicians aren't even aware of Polywell designs or their potential, let alone understand its implications for civilian use. Bussard took the Navy route because he knew the US Dept of Energy is full of engineers with their own darling projects (laser inertial confinement, tokamaks)

I don't think it's necessarily evil, but it certainly lacks empathy, compassion, and sympathy and that doesn't bode well for long-term sustainability. There are reasons evolution gave us those emotions. The egoistic institutions we have now attempt to mold humans in their own image, rather than the other way around, and it shows everywhere.

@a2zhandi and btw, I meant that Polywell reactors are much more likely to be viable than Tokamaks. Unfortunately, they've been developed primarily by funding from the U.S. Navy so a lot of the results and data haven't been published. The next prototype is expected to be a 100MW model fusion plant. Robert Bussard spent the last years of his life developing the basic design.

Fusion (and even Fission) actually converts a small amount of matter, into energy. The mass of the fusion products are a bit less than what was put into the fusion reaction.... so conservation of energy is still in play.
