Shame on you, George Schlatter. The Cuyahoga River NEVER CAUGHT ON FIRE (FOR THE TEN MILLIONTH TIME). URBAN MYTH! Just because the receptionist and General Manager at Channel 5 were jerks is no reason to smear the entire city. A lot of us watched "Turn On" in Cleveland, thought it was great, and hated Peyton Place.
@steelflame1 Seriously dude, holy shit, left wing people are EXTREMELY less politically correct than you conservative dildos. Go watch David Cross or Chris Rock or practically any comedian. Who does the right wing have? Stupid, boring, "safe for christians" humor like Jeff Foxworthy and Jeff Dunham.
I see you dorks getting way more worked up and offended than any leftie I know. Oh boo hoo there's a war on Christmas! And abortion is legal! And gays can marry. Boo hoo hoo! :( Poor fundie :(
Gotta love the way this Hollyweirdo begins by putting down the show, admitting his arrogance. But then when he has time to think about it, he assigns blame to others and insults a host of people. If people like him had spent 1/1000th the time they spent speaking out against those who fought communists to speak out against the communists, a few million people might have been saved.
@AnimalHouseVetVideos It's not my business what you love. That's one of the pillars of Conservativism. Government must remain small so it doesn't get into people's business. When the federal government makes laws on things like gay marriage and abortions, it creates a tyranny. If those things were regulated on a state level then people could move to the state that matched their desires.
@fjccommish Only a complete loser makes a grammatical correction on a benign You Tube comment. Dork. Probably giggle at people that stutter too. Just focus what people have to say as opposed to how they say it. There are better venues to address your low self esteem issues than You Tube.
George Schlatter created some of the most incredible shows. Check his website -- I see he even did Judy Garland's variety show. He's worked with the top stars. Laugh-In was the show that changed TV comedy. I saw Turn-On when it aired -- and was blown away -- and I was just a kid then. I wish Mr. Schlatter would release the rest of the episodes -- on TV or DVD. America needs a new show from Mr.Schlatter -- more than ever!! We need to LOL again as only George Schlatter can do it!
i was 14 when this aired in san jose. i remember it as being rather disjointed (and that's comparing it to "laugh-in") and not all that funny...but it sure was weird and definitely "new". i'm sure my perceived lack of humor feeling was because i was only 14. i'd love to give it a second look! please release the existing tapes!!!
@JeffMinde - Someone (or a few people) over on the message board of Turn-On at IMDb suggested they take the episodes of the shows that only had one episode; and put them all on a DVD. That would be friggin cool, even if the shows were bad.
I just want to correct one erroneous statement Mr. Schlatter makes here. He says that nobody had heard a synthesizer in 1969, which isn't true. There had been a number of records made by that time that used the instrument, including Switched On Bach by Wendy Carlos, which was at the time the biggest selling album of JS Bach's music. The Monkees used one in 1967 on the songs Daily Nightly and Star Collector.
Also, the name Moog is pronounced like the word "Vogue" not like the sound a cow makes.
I saw this show twice. I live in the Boston area and the Boston ABC affiliate ran it on Wed. night and their affiliate in Manchester, NH ran it on Saturday night. I wonder how many people can say they saw it twice? And since I was 9, I imagine a lot of the jokes went over my head.
I saw "Turn-On!" when it aired. My best friend and I were eagerly anticipating the debut of what was being promoted then as a groundbreaking sexy and psychedelic tv show. At the age of nine, I wasn't quite sophisticated enough to comprehend it, but I recall being strangely repelled and fascinated by "Turn On" at the same time. I do recall being disappointed that the rather unhip Tim Conway was the very uncomfortable host. I'd love to see it again to put it all into retrospect.
@1987tvfreak I understand your disbelief...but if you do not believe that one total whack job can interrupt the flow of absolutely normalcy, I have a name for you to google......BOB VANDER PLAATS This is one freak who is an absolutely NOBODY, but sure raised a huge stink and got his candy-ass way! Look him up...he continues to plague the State of Iowa!
Mr. Schlatter should release the two 'Turn-On' episodes on DVD, as there are many people out there (like me) who would love to see it. From the descriptions I've found about it, it sounds like a show that the great Ernie Kovacs would've produced had he not been killed in a car accident in 1962.
Schlatter is a knee disease right? I have it .. It sucks.

Yet the libtard politically correct feel it's ok to censor what they feel is "wrong" or sensitive.

@steelflame1 LOL WHAT?! Did you even watch the video? The show was extremely left wing and had a bunch of very conservative sponsors pull out.
"Liberal" doesn't just mean "thing steelflame1 doesn't like", you fucking joke.

God, I remember TURN ON. It was so bad! So, so, so bad! They should run it just as segment of TV history.
