Two bass drums,, well it's a matter of preference. It really doesn't matter from in front of a kit , ( audience), but I find both ways equally fun for different reasons. The feel is different on both accounts but equally fun. Anyway, this guy is cool, but reminds me of myself when I am drunk. He's probably about my age too. (50).
My playing is sloppy and disjointed when I am impaired, much like this fellow. Don't mean to be cruel. But he is selling teaching material. Wow, really?
most people buy two drums, mostly for showing, but others tune for example the left one a bit higher(like mike portnoy) because you get two different sounds, althogh it will cost you much more than buying a double bass pedal. Good luck and hope you do the right choiche:)
not shure if you got it yet but i would go for the pedal because it has a style like the drums tho the people cant see but you can use the angle if you were to make a music video
I would get a really nice double bass pedal. Pearl Eliminator Demon Drive is one of the best; it feels just like 2 bass drums, but saves you space, and money, depending on the drum you would have bought.
hey, man i see you are using a pinstripe front head on the kick... it is really limiting the sound. I know you are old school but I would recommend an Ebony Powerstroke 3 front, it will make your kick sing! If you have a pinstripe on the batter too, I would recommend putting a Clear Powerstroke 3 on with a falam slam, the clarity of the kick will increase.
no offense, but how do you figure? i use them on my double bass set, but i also use Holz kits for port holes and i dont put ANYTHING in them. not even a blanket. the whole reason i use em is for a deeper sound and a shorter resonance. i do that coupled with kickpads, and tape around the edges, to eliminate the vibrational nodes with the higher frequencies... its loud, short and deeeeep.
i myself recommend them to all double bass drummers.
well, if you are old school that is the standard. The way most drummers do it now days is a clear P3 on the batter and an ebony p3 on the front. you don't really need anything in the kick drum and the ebony p3 has a built in dynamo so you don't have to cut one or get a holz kit. an ebony p3 has a built in muffle ring and i think still has a better sound than an ebony pinstripe. again the p3 is probably remo's best kick head since the pinstripe.
i like how staccato the thud is with the two plies of the pinstripe personally... the lack of 'boom' is great for 32nd notes. but maybe i'll give that head a try and see what i can do with it, looks pretty sweet. my main kit's 22"s are already pretty loud.... but i assume it'd be fantastic for an 18" drum.
I'm Jim Holland not you. You are doing a horrible impression of me. I don't even play the drums, dude. I like what you are doing though. Watch one of my videos now. I mean whenever you are ready... No, do it now. Thank you, The real Jim Holland
What does he have on his toms to deadend the ringing? Looks more than just tape. I'm just curious because it seems like a good idea, instread of putting tape in the middle of the toms.

Nobody needs two bass drums!
But like the so much air in move when i play my two kicks! :-)
Mostly on gigs i play double pedal, easier transport!
Your choice!
