I think its funny, normaly deaf people just bring paper with them and know what they want, some do the gesture game but most just know what they are looking for and do everything their selves.
I love the acting in the scene between Linda and the milliner. The both play the scene to great comic effect. What I could have done without is the conceit that this grown-up deaf woman is writing a letter to her mother about how she managed to buy a hat even though she was deaf. Like, "Wow! You're DEAF, and you bought a HAT? That's AMAZING!" I read elsewhere that Linda Bove didn't like writing that focused on her accomplishment of simple tasks as a deaf person. Ah, well! Still a great scene.
the hat shop lady is Winnie from The electric Company

Linda and Bob were such a cute couple. I used to wonder if they were going to get married.

I like 1:00 because she says, "Sprechen sie Deutsch?" that means "Are you speak German?".

The second Judy opened her mouth, I knew it was her (Which of course is a little ironic, considering the nature of the clip).

Okay it's from the 90's. Judy looks a little different but I still recognized her voice.

OMG, Judy! & with a slightly different persona than what we're used to seeing from her on EC.

Man that is so cool. I thought Judy totally disappeared after The Electric Company! I'm glad she didn't!

Linda's "thinking" voice sounds a little like Cynthia from "Square One TV".
Marbles471 3 years ago
Her thinking voice is Fran Brill, the performer of Zoe and Prairie Dawn
MarshalGrover 3 years ago
Fran Brill could be a dead-ringer for Patty Duke voice-wise..

I thought it was funny when the hat lady yells at Linda.

It looked like Linda was reading the hat lady's lips.

Was Linda using her voice when she said she was deaf?
andrewcolinwilson 3 years ago
Yes, that was her voice.

No offense to Linda, but deaf people sound weird when they talk because they can't hear. It's like they're speaking with an accent.

Just like Marlee Matlin.

My younger brother grew up in the era after PBS had stopped showing The Electric Company, and even he recognized the saleslady's voice immediately.
