The Atari 2600 is a 8Bit Console, but a really early one. It uses the MOS 6507 CPU and its a smaller version of the MOS Technology 6502 CPU, who is used in the Commodore VC-20, PET and Apple I+II. The 6507 has only 8Kb Adress Memory instead the 64Kb of the 6502, but its still 8Bit...

Well, to be most exact, it's 5-bit music, since that's how many bits the Atari TIA chip has for pitch value. (This means that the TIA can play a whopping 32 different notes).

The system itself is an 8-bit machine, so I'd still consider it valid to call Atari music 8-bit. ;)

It has only 128 bytes of RAM - imagine how awesome programmers were back then to make all of these games with such limited resources!

Exactly. Most people think the 2600 was a 4-bit machine because of how much more capable the NES and SMS were. The 2600 is in fact an 8-bit system, just with weaker co-processors and A lot less RAM. The CPU in a 2600 isn't that much different than the one in the NES.
