Look at the Seattle Storm in WNBA. 2 titles in 5 years. That kind of success and fan support (Ask Angel McCoughtery about that stingy Storm defense!) gives reason for hope and, dare I say optomism. June 5, 1979, a great day.
I loved that team--DJ, JJ, Lonnie, Gus, Jack, Downtown--broke my heart in '78, but I still glow thinking about the '79 team. Maybe they don't rank among the all time greatest NBA Champs, but they will always be my favorite team!
My spine just tingled..... I remember this moment when I was 11 years old.... That was such a great Sonics team back then.... back to back NBA finals appearances, and what was so sweet is getting revenge on the Bullets after they beat us in game 7 the year before to win the title... SWEET SWEET moment....
Sometimes, very rarely in life, the good AND nice guys win. This was one of those times. You both are right with your comments as well; Seattle Supersonics fans were always a cut above. Corporate and civic infrastructure sold them out. There can be only one Seattle Supersonics!
David Stern is a goon. Seattle Supersonics fans were great. Bill Simmons even said they were the best fans in the 2005 NBA playoffs!
We didn't build an arena? WHAT? The Seattle Coliseum was gutted down to 4 support beams and completely rebuilt in 1995 to the specs requested by the team. I can't believe the NBA can get away with such blatant disregard of fans and lie so badly.
Greed. Pure and simple. And owner ego, too. When they sold the team anyone in the world could tell you they were going to move it. Oklahoma Thunder. LOL.
Seattle was a strong and supportive NBA market...every time they made the playoffs I remember the loudest of fans.... Memories like these need to be kept alive if the NBA is ever to return to Seattle.....Mark Fartman- I'm sure Sonics fans appreciate this sample. Post as much of this game as you can. You might be ALL SEATTLE HAS to get an NBA team again !!!

Only a 4 point game and the other team did not foul? Please tell me that the rules were different back then!
