  • Bobby, in all of my 5 Years playing guitar, YOU have taught me practically everything. thank you bobby for allowing me to play as well as i can now. :)

    -Ash

  • where is your head?

  • your one fret away.....or two frets away....fuck it, just jump like a mad man till your happy, to be fair thats a good way for beginners haha

  • whammy...*chugs guitar for awhile*....*awkward silence*...*moves on*

  • I've wrote a guitar rock solo myself. All i did was think of notes in my head. Test them out on my guitar. And repeat. If it sounds good. Then i put them in tablature (easier for me to understand it)

  • nice good tips

  • epiphone studio les paul? :)

  • @mixalisgoncalves I think that its a Gibson ;)

  • @Nuppetion nop epiphone i have the same guitar :)

  • @mixalisgoncalves Yeah, Epiphone and Gibson look pretty much the same, but I think I saw that it was a Gibson in another videos of his. -.-

  • @Nuppetion actually no, gibsons and epihpones have totally different necks. and slightly different paint finishes.

  • these are some valuable ideas you are sharing with us!! Thanks a trillion!!

  • @ZehMonstah

    - Yeah! I'm pretty sure there nines.

  • @BobbyCrispy

Hey man. I was wondering what kind of strings you use. I'm guessing nine's?

  • @MrKillercroc I wonder the same thing!

  • When i make my solos for songs i play the rhytm in the background then i hum what i think would me a great solo then i play it on guitar and have my bassis play the background rythm and it works pretty well for me. Type in Twisted Straight on youtube and that is my band if you wanna check it out and see for yourself.

  • @TheBurchBoy

You're right dude. I can be sittin plenty hours and it doesn't just fit well. But only when I cast the main riff in the headphones I always come up with something great. Later the problem is to write down the thing. I don't have a solution yet on how to do it. I just forget the conception pretty quick. Maybe I will try to create the solo in small parts step by step.

  • Great lesson, really useful. Have a great Christmas.

  • how do u use tabs??

  • @kkhollyhood write the fret number on one of the 6 strings

  • I thout you were a adult adult dont use to say ''LOL'' Thats just stupid i dont say it and i am 13!!!

  • @guitarman92575

Cool story bro i'm thirteen too.

  • @ZerFrozenJared cooool ;D and i am from norwegian just as you know it ;D

  • Nice Man what kind of camera is that?

  • @ajhrockerboy6 well, learn different scales in different keys. And then find out which one is your favorite and just mess around with that one scale until you make something cool. Then pick another scale in the same key and just mix and match until you create an epic guitar solo. This works for me.

  • Don't have with the solo part to do but i suppose it's a good place to ask. What should i buy first, a better amp or a guitar? Got a beginner set with a 15w amp. The guitar sound good when i play unplugged so my best guess would be to buy new amp.

  • @Keinhoof I'd go for the amp.

  • @pyrzzlewick Today i bought both a Fender Mustang 1 amp and a Shecter Omen 6 guitar. Must say the amp itself is worth around 10k in my eyes, their both godlike.

  • idk if this works for anyone else, but i just record it and listen to it until i can actually harmonize with it. for some reason, having a harmony helps me remember almost anything i play.

  • i just cant think of solos. i get like a brain block :(

  • Why did u remove the enter sandman solo vid??? :( :(

  • i like the part "hi! i´m Bobby Crispyee"

  • You want to write/learn solos? One word - SCALES!

That's all you need to write a great solo (of course adding bends, pinch harmonics, vibrato etc.)

  • @codismyBxTCH how do you know what scales to play for your solo? And how do you know what key your song is in? Thanks for a response.

  • ur very good at guitar and your vids help me im trying to teach myself andi think im doing pritty good i think if u like u can see 1 of my guitar vids. my favorit 1 is called guitar song with bc rich guitar :]

hope u like it if u look up.

  • I think you, at least, need to learn the 5 pos. of the pentatonics before you write a solo. It makes it hell of a lot easier than tablature.

  • TO BE A GREAT GUITAR PLAYER YOU DONT NEED TI KNOW HOW TO READ MUSIC NOTES JUST UNDERSTAND THE FRET BOARD AND SOME TAB WORK AND A LOT OF PRACTICE. A LOT MEANS TILL YOU GET FED UP. THEN TAKE A BREAK. SOME DAYS YOU MAY NOT FEEL LIKE PLAYING JUST DO IT AND YOU WILL BEAR FRUIT,. YOU COULD RECUPERATE FOR A WEEK.. BUT MAKE SURE YOU GET BACK AND PRACTICE. BELIEVE ME YOUR GONNA SOUND MUCH BETTER.

  • My advice towards writing music period, to much practice is like too much salt it fucks shit up. To little it makes you suck worse then you did in the first place. Point is try and work at it but when things start sounding bad consistantly then take a break and cone back a lil later

  • How you make youre guitar sound like that its the sound i want to play like that way

  • I can write guitar tabs, it's not tough. BUT I haven't written solos yet :X

  • Your really good :P join a band (or form one) and get famous!

  • You're not giving very much theory-based information, you're pretty much telling the viewer to wing it and play whatever sounds good regardless of the notes.

  • @PoshMop.... yeah so the point i'm trying to make in this video is to wing it, LOL!

  • @BobbyCrispy

Well, isn't by ear better? That's how I make mine.

I can't read music. Tabs? I don't understand them very well either.

  • @BobbyCrispy there has not ever been a better way than to wing it, IMO.

  • @PoshMop - haha, you'd rather be spoon-fed instead of create your own shit from emotion, skill, and intuition?

  • @PoshMop You dumb retard! Your taking music in to its technical definition. Real music is being creative and showing emotions in a way that is easier than words. Also something to sound good. Therefore, SCREW the notes and what is right, just play what sounds good. Thanks Bobby!

  • @TheGuitarFlame

A guitar solo should be tehnicall and well sounding. But at a priority the soloist should play what he feels.Emotions are frikkin important :)

  • @PoshMop That's because most of it is playing what the song tells you. You have to feel it in your gut and your fingers will do the rest.

  • @PoshMop ive been taught that whatever sounds good works. not to only play what melodically 'works'

  • @PoshMop Dude, who the hell cares? I mean, do you really think that Slash or, Steve Vai or who ever really use music theory? You've got to be bloody joking!

  • @PoshMop i can play some insane solo's and i don't' know much theory, and i didn't learn that way. So what is your point?

  • why do you sound like your gonna cry?

  • Looks so easy!

  • Is it possible to get tabs for the solo at the beginning? :)

  • i can improvise and solo now, but it always sounds incredibly bluesy, which i love seems its my favourite genre, but still, i cant rock solo for dick, i blame my fragmented phrasing

  • hey man i did not know u were that old. i thought ur age was about 26. Ur tips and lesson are awesome man. Ur also an amazing guitarist. i have one question for you.

After having so much experience and such good talent and skill, why aren't you in a famous professional band ? im ur fan even now.

  • i have advice im only 14 and im in a band if ur ever struggling to write a riff dont give up piss about for ages and ages and entually youll come up with stuff currently my band have written 2 songs and we are starting our 3rd we have " been together for 1/2 a year now oh and btw if you dont have anything nice to sayyy dont say it at all

  • thanks! that actually helped a lot!

  • @BobbyCrispy what strings do you use? Like in your stairway to heaven solo videos you can bend your strings super high super fast. Mine can't go half that! And it kills my fingers too.

  • I need to learn my scales. Ive basically taught myself guitar so i never learned the scales is there a website or something that can teach me? I don't really want to hire a teacher.

  • how much would it cost me to get guitar lessons? cuz i mean seeing u is helpfull and u have thought me a lot.. but like idk, i gues i just feel like getting a teacher all of the sudden.. lolz

  • You and Justin Sandercoe are the best guitar teachers online! Dude keep it up, you really inspire me a lot, and I'm proud to say, that most of my talent comes from watching your vids!

  • for me the most important thing when playing solo is to really play along with the rhythm and accent certain notes and omg it just tastes so good

  • haha so manny poeple r commenting saying they suck when really as long as your trying ur just as good as everyone else,

  • fact you never stop learning guitar

  • awesome tone, what are you playing through?

  • haha, i'm just going to take a big ol' scoop of feeling, and half a pound of emotion and i'll have a smokin' solo^^

but thumbs, up, some good advice

  • haha, i'm just going to take a big ol' scoop of feeling, and half a pound of emotion and i'll have a smokin' solo^^

  • thanks for the tips.

i was hoping for some advice.....i write music for my band, and i have a great background in piano and drums. i can handle writing electric guitar and the simple rhythms and riffs on an acoustic guitar, but when it comes to writing the solos, i have to do really simple things due to my lack of knowledge. do you have any advice for me to bridge the gap between piano and guitar?

    thanks!

  • @immyimaginaryfriend in the guitar you can play the same note much faster that with a keyboard and use bendings (pitch bend in the keyboard)

  • hi im bobby crispy.......

  • @GuitarAndWow hehe

  • great lesson....u rock \m/

  • Subscribed!!! great video . . . on average, how long do you practice a day?

  • Is That Agile Al300?

  • How do you get your hammer ons to last so long?

  • @chubacaman1 gain...lots and lots of gain...

  • nice tatoo. u r great on guitar

  • is there like a point in guitar playing that you reach a point you cant think you can pass, but once you do its like you broke through it and your really good?

  • r u german?

  • @shaqli Canadian, I believe

  • @BobbyCrispy Can u tell me the tabs to some scales to practice on?

  • bobby lisp-y

  • i have a song iam making and itas in the key of E(so im making a solo in the key of E) but i have a couple questions. i learned the E major scale but do i have to ONLY use the notes from the scale or can i do 8 fret than jump to 9(the ninth fret is in the scale)? also, if i play the D note inthe middle of the E major scale , can i continue my solo in the D since i hit the D note(than would i have too go back to E) hope u know the answer please reply thanx

  • @rockstarbenji412 I think I would stick with whatever you think sounds good, dont be too restricted when it comes to scales and music theory

  • Did you use the blues scale to create that melody?

  • seeing you play then seeing me play i suck at guitar really bad :(

  • @Se3kto45 no you don't suck at guitar! you just have to keep at it :-)

  • @Se3kto45 you dont suck bor. keep trying man. you will progress. record yourself playing and save the video. then in a few years watch it, and see how much you have progressed.

  • @JUANCPIZARRA thank you and bobby for keeping me up with the guitar

  • @Se3kto45 dude don't lose hope, always practice and he is right no one suck at playing guitar just keep it up :D

  • @Se3kto45

    Come on Man

You just got to practise thats all

  • @Se3kto45 No one sucks at guitar, you just have to try harder.

  • @Se3kto45 good guitarists are those who never gave up and showed tremendous patience and passion...just luk where u were 4 months ago...the important thing is to keep improving...

  • @Se3kto45 No man practice makes perfection. I'm sure that you'll be really good if you practice, really :D And don't give up, playing an instrument is one of the bes things in the world. After you have a good basis you'll enjoy a lot, you don't have to be a professional, the point of this is enjoying playing and creating music.

(The only thing that sucks here is my English lol)

  • @Se3kto45 Practice makes permanent, not perfect. But practice right, you'll be freaking awesome!!!

  • Thanks For The Video!

    I Made A Guitar Solo(Unfinished)

    Thanks Again

  • nice tatoe

  • what pedal are you using in this? sounds great!

  • @1JmanG Sounds like a reverb pedal.

  • Hey do the solo notes have to match the chorus or the verse notes?

  • i like ur tone

  • Hey i have a question

how do i know witch notes are nice after the other? So how do I know how it will sound like or must I do it whit looking At each notes?

    your cool:p

  • Do I Need To Know How To Use Arpeggios,Octaves, etc??

  • @TheFlamesOfHeart all arpeggios are are broken chords, pretty basic stuff. like stairway to heavens intro is mainly arpeggios. octaves you can find in immigrant song. pretty easy stuff.

  • @guitarzilla100

    THANKS!!

BUT I GUESS I WILL USE OCTAVES THAN ARPEGGIOS.

  • @TheFlamesOfHeart ok. was that L i saw in your picture!!!!!!!!!!!! i love L!!!!!

  • @guitarzilla100

    yeah its L i love L too :)

  • TBH this video should be called "how to improve a Rock guitar solo" or even "how to edit rock guitar solo" .... no help "WRITING" one...

  • Kinda sounds like he's making it up as he goes..haha

  • @kycjesus cause he probably is, he knows how to use the penatonic scales and other scales hes learned around the fretboard, therefore not needing to read tabs for a video on teaching.

  • BOB i love your video!Keep it up!!! :D

  • Bobby sure is crispy alright. Crispy licks, crispy videos, everything is crispy. Just how we love it.

    Good shit.

  • hey bobbyyyyy! love your vids bro! i was wondering if you could by any chance post a vid that has the tabs to playing Yesterday by the Beatles...i see that you have a video of you playing it, but with no tabs, so its hard for me to follow along since im just a beginner...lol=) hope to hear from ya soon bro...peace.

  • where have you boughth you

    r guitar?

  • Thanks, man, I picked up a few tips from this vid and I can tell a huge difference with my songs and music now. Thanks again!

  • and i dont know the notes i can play, the strings i play dont match to each other it always sound terribel. I know the minor scale in A but everything i play with it sucks.

  • Bob, how do you know what scale to use when your looking at a chord progression?

  • @huliniswhoiam

Just figure out what key the chord progression is in... then use a scale.

Ex. If its in A... use any scale in the key of A.

  • TEAM MARTYY

  • TEAM MARTY!

  • Can you please do a guitar lesson on how to play "great white buffalo" by ted nugent. Its a great guitar song, and i'd like to know how to play it because i haven't found a how-to video anywhere else.

  • Very cool! I do alot of this stuf when I write : ]

  • Good ....somwhat....

  • what kind of pickups does that guitar have?

  • you forgot pinch harmonics :p

  • Write your solos down? No way! Just improvise and if you liked your solo just use the same scale. Or record your improvised solos and if you like it, practice it, change it, repeat until your happy and then write it down (If you want to).

  • @weeryzo09

I mean, sometimes writing a solo helps more. You have time to incorporate licks and tricks you want, plan it out well, think about chord changes and possible scales/modes, etc.

    Either way.

  • A really useful video with plenty of ideas to play with. However, as you said, its not instant, you have to practice, probably for years to get good.

    Thanks Bobby

  • Not easy at all.

  • Bro, your videos and your tips..everything is cool and very helpful BUT..man you need a good Axe and a nice TUBE amp to complete the package.

  • See joker would really benefit from some theory

  • aargh how can you climb up the fretboard that easily?? I'm just stuck in a pattern for every key, minor or major...

  • time to get my solo on =D

  • Great video Bobby I just have a few comments, the video was awsome but it seemed more like a part 2 type video, don't you agree? Unless this was targeted for intermidiate players on which hand makes this video perfect. Also a lesson request, I was wondering if you could do a video explaining concept of different "keys" thanks.ROCK ON

  • great lesson

  • Bobby, how did you come to be able to kick so much ass?

  • Maybe some theory lessons could really help some of your subscribers.I think some basic knowledge is very important for beginners

  • Ok but not great,I think mode theory is probably the best way to understand how and why things do and don't work in a solo.for adding emotion you really need some knowledge of modes and how they work.

  • everytime you play a sour note, your just one or two frets away from a sweet one - thats actually superhelpful, never looked at it that way :), thanks bobby!

  • awesome

  • you're great bobby but i think your lesson failed. i watched this video and still cant write an own solo

  • @PolishGman ....well if i put down too many "rules", then all i'm doing is restricting creativity....

  • @BobbyCrispy you are right guitar is about creativity

    and you rock

  • @BobbyCrispy hey bob, what gauge and company strings do you use on your les paul?

  • @Aranya009 Please answer! I also wanna know!

  • @BobbyCrispy bobby what do u mean by adding feeling or emotion to a solo? i didn't get what u mean by that

  • @PolishGman the video's point wasnt suppose to write you a solo and hand it to you, if you want to achieve something you work for it, this is just to build the basic foundation of your soloing

  • @PolishGman u can creat ur own solo if u learn what scales are if u dont know what scales are try looking for E minor scale as a start...

  • @SparTanSSJ

i know lots of scales but i dont know what to do with them. only thing i can is playing them up and down

  • @PolishGman u dont have to play them up and down, u can start from any note on that scale and play any other note but they must be on the same scale, if u play them on a minor scale it would sound like a sad solo, try playing it slow and u'll get it trust me

  • @SparTanSSJ I can play the scales but all i do is play them up and down, i've made some licks but sound boring because they are all in the box shape, and don't get how your meant to play in a box kinda thing when i see guitarists playing up and down the fretboard?. are they just playing the scale but down the fretboard instead of across? its very confusing! aha

  • @Guitarvampy1 well if it sounds boring then u have to switch to a better scale that suits ur mood, try a Minor scale every1 loves it and believe me it will sound gd even if u play the scale like a beginner... tell me if u had troubles bcuz maybe theres smth ur missing

  • @SparTanSSJ lol pentatonic scale i know but reason it sounds boring is because its all in one box shape, Like am pentatonic the easy one lol i just play the notes in that shape. I want to know how to extend the pentatonic like all the way down the fretboard so im not just playing in 5th position if you get me? and still be in key

  • @Guitarvampy1 omg i play that scale to make fun of some1.. like for example i play the scale and say dude this is ur music when u get mad and start playing that scale xD omg that scale is the worse scale i ever heard xD maybe thats why u find it boring

  • @Guitarvampy1 well if u want to extend it instead of playing it only on the first 4th frets u should figure it out by urself and memorize it OR u can find it on the internet..dont forget to use another scale cuz that scale is [i dont know if i can call it that] funny!

  • @PolishGman experiment lol

I never thought I could do my own too and Im playing the guitar for 6 months... And Im nothing close to pro but I made tons of my own songs by now.

Start with easy solos you heard on radio or w/e than move on bending, hammering etc just to get to know it. Pratcice makes perfect. And than try doing your own.

  • @PolishGman

You Dont Knoe How To Solo Because

1 You Got To Learn Your Scales In Each Keyy

2 You Got To Learn Your Modes

3 You Got To Learn How To Phrase Your Scales

4 You Have To Know Your FretBoard

Just Practice Alot And YOU Will Be Soloing In No Time

  • @TheInvationCo Hey bud, stfu. this guy is probably an expect he's trying to show the kids like you how to play proper. so listen and take the advice! and show respect you prick! he made this video for youtube, not to be corrected by lil dickheads like you.

  • @HeeySquirrelBoyzz Wtf ,, Im Not Talking About BobbyCrispy ?You Retard. , He's A God ! Im Talking About Polishman . Learn To Read.

  • @TheInvationCo ..I dont agree. Just play and feel free. Practice your hand (speed) and play!

  • @mrguse00 But To Solo. You Gotta Learn That ,,

  • @TheInvationCo yeah scales are important i use em quite often this is how i manage to play some improvised 6-7-8 note solos but modes for wehat my friend

  • @TheInvationCo I think I only know my pentatonic scale, I solo without modes, scales, keys, and I know my fretboard by muscle memory in my hand. I say just practice however you feel makes the most progress. Or however it's easiest to play with soul, for me it is to just play the fretboard in a way you find sounds like 'you'.

  • @PolishGman maybe you just have no skill.. idiot.

  • @PolishGman Well. He talked a little slow and monotone. He was giving great tips for adding on a solo. When you're making a solo, you gotta find out what key you're in (which is what he said once.) Then you have to figure out if you are in a minor or major key. A little trick to figure this out is to listen to see if your song sounds depressing and heavy, or something that makes you wanna get jiggy with it. Minor stuff would be like Metallica, major would be like Takin' Care of Business.

  • @PolishGman Also Polish. After you figure out if you wanna be in minor or major, you play the major or minor scale with the key you're in. Write down which notes are in the scale, and that's what you can use. You can also use the major blues scale like he did. Then you can't expect a solo to come out willy-nilly, you gotta work with it (and the notes). If you're playing jazz or metal, sometimes you can go out of the scale and hit a foul note, but it's what you want.

  • @PolishGman Also, there are songs where they change the key. Ever heard Sedated by the Ramones, they change the key about half way through in that song. It's more of a classic thing.

  • @PolishGman also try using arpeggios
