While that graphical style is not to my taste, it's well done. Are the fire bars hand-drawn too? Because those are awesome. As are the dry bones and bony beetles.
Is this music in the level? Or just the video? It's good music, and a great choice for this level.

The boss seems to be the easiest part since you only have to hit him once.

It's actually a glitch. If one hits something that has 3 "HP" and they hit it with 2 fireballs and immediately jump on it, the ROM will accidently process both fireballs as a hit.

Spinjumps are more powerful and fireballs hurt the boss too. You used a fireball and spinjumped on the boss. :P
