Radeon's graphics cards always spike when it comes to FPS. That obviously means a poor architecture and 3D processing power. the GTX 295, which was the radeon 4870 x2 equivalent and destroyed it, did very well against the 5970.
I came in here to see hey maybe ATI is better, guess i was wrong. BTW i agree somethign is wrong with this system and hardware (Cards) this motherboard should reproduce more frames. I do this with half the system specs!!
in the reality boys the card that holds it apperance and frame rate the best is the better over all card. high frames that have lower lows are bad. max frame Rates, and low Frame should be narrow in order to distinguish better cards Definition Gama, and pixel reproduction add to the value. ATI looses on this vid too.
@Zangano1975 :upon release, this game was plagued with bad coding that wouldnt allow SLi or CrossfireX to function, new gpu drivers, game updates etc have significantly improved frame rates.....this video is 10 months old now....

I also just tested this but i got 88fps average but I used the new 10.3 Drivers. Do you think the driver updates actually increased my performance by that much because I also used same settings and almost same rig.
I read that nvidia made drivers for their cards that caused them the fry and thier customers were not pleased. They run hot have weaker performance then ask for more money to a comparable ATI card.
This is again an exmple of how much drivers make a difference in each game. The 295 gtx here has the same fps as a mobility radeon hd5870. So I suppose this test is a bit unfair for nvidia but ofcourse everyone knows that the 5970 is the faster card
your cards don't run dx11 and thus can't even run the game on max... My 5870 oc'ed can run about the same as the 5970 in this game. bear in mind that the driver used in the video is a beta driver. the recent driver causes the game not to drop below 80 fps at all anymore.

Multi GPU was enabled, unfortunately, upon initial release of this game there were compatibility issues with SLi and Crossfire. This issue has since been resolved. I may run this bench again...but i'm pretty sure of the outcome already.
@Howie47 I'm referring to this test, on this video that the author did. You can doubt all your want. But I get close to 60 FPS in the Dirt 2 test on three monitors. That's over 3300X1152 on ultra settings. Direct X. 11 His test couldn't have been done faily on those settings. Because the 295 doesn't have DX 11. So the test is phoney. If you want to see a unbiased comparison see. "The Tech Report". story: GPU value in the DX11 age. The 470 is = to 5870 cost 100 less and over clocks better.
You guys are comparing old tech vs. new tech and the fact that the 295 is 250.00/300.00$ cheaper than the 5970. The 295 compares to an overvolted 5870.
This video = FAIL , my GTX 260 / x4 B50 @ 3.8Ghz can get 54FPS min and 61FPS max @ 1680x 1050 (everything on ULTRA including x16CSAA) ...... so whoever made this video needs to double check what went wrong... funny...
The gtx 295 is not the equivalent of the 5970. It is the equivalent of the 4870 x2 which it smoked. This is a bad comparison. Anyways the GTX 580 single gpu massacres the 5870 and beats the 5970 in tessellation and perfomrance. In sli, the gtx 580 further destroys 2 5970s that are in crossfire. RAdeon sucks ass in SLI and im sure the overhyped 6970 will do poorly vs the gtx 580.

I have a o/c 4770, same CPU on Ultra preset at 1600x1050 I get 54 min 62 avg. You are doing something wrong with the GTX 295. IF you have dx11 enabled with the 5970 that may be correct. They take a big hit.
5970 is better,that's for sure.You can check any benchmark site you want.But tho it shows in price tag.Here in Finland you can get almost 2x gtx295 with one ati card price.

WTF? My GTX260 runs Dirt2 (1920x1200, All Settings Maxed, AA4x) at 45-60fps, with saving Full HD video by FRAPS it's down to 25-35fps. GTX295 cards has twice more horsepower - i think this test is a crap...
It's more powerful yeah, but the drivers blow. ATI needs to step up and have regular driver updates and fix the issues with them. If they did that, I would probably switch to ATI.
@mallik2k4 Then they don't have updates for their onboard devices! I've had this mobo with ATI onboard for almost a year and there's only been ONE update released for it. And it worked like shit over Windows Vista, works great on Windows 7 so far. Doesn't really matter since I have a Nvidia 9800gtx+. I find many many more people complaining about ATI drivers than NVIDIA drivers anyways. Even if they do have regular updates, WTF are they doing to them? They still suck!

DX11 and DX10 are VERY different. You cannot force DX11 on a DX10 card.
@Bush, ATI's onboard devices use the same drivers as they monthly released ones, unless you're using some stupid company to purchase your machine from (Dell, HP, etc).
If you have done, then just download the 'Mobility Modifier', and you'll be able to use the same drivers as everyone else.
It's not a case of ATI, it's a case of the manufacturers not allowing it (why though, I have no idea).

I know the difference of performance seems to be too big, but in GTA IV the GTX295 got 32FPS and 81% of CPU usage , while the 5970 got 64FPS with only 28% of CPU usage
remembering that GTA IV does not support CF nor Sli

It's awesome how good DiRT2 is optimized, the graphics are beautiful, and I run it on my 8800 GTS on all maxed without any lagg! More games need to be optimized like this!

Drivers and game updates have pumped up performance of these cards a lot and smoothness, frames and game play too.
With my 5970 I get about double the FPS on the SAME settings.

WTF? My GTX260 runs Dirt2 (1920x1200, All Settings Maxed, AA4x) at 45-60fps, with saving Full HD video by FRAPS it's down to 25-35fps. GTX295 cards has twice more horsepower - i think this test is a crap...

It's more powerful yeah, but the drivers blow. ATI needs to step up and have regular driver updates and fix the issues with them. If they did that, I would probably switch to ATI.

Eh? They release drivers more frequently than NVIDIA do :S. Once every month, and hotfixes whenever needed.
Their drivers are better than NVIDIA's nowadays...

@mallik2k4 Then they don't have updates for their onboard devices! I've had this mobo with ATI onboard for almost a year and there's only been ONE update released for it. And it worked like shit over Windows Vista, works great on Windows 7 so far. Doesn't really matter since I have a Nvidia 9800gtx+. I find many many more people complaining about ATI drivers than NVIDIA drivers anyways. Even if they do have regular updates, WTF are they doing to them? They still suck!

The 295 is DX9! Unless you forced DX9 on the 5970, it is unfair! Wow the 5970 is almost double the 295 in FPS, I'm a neither Fanboy... :P

DX11 and DX10 are VERY different. You cannot force DX11 on a DX10 card.
@Bush, ATI's onboard devices use the same drivers as they monthly released ones, unless you're using some stupid company to purchase your machine from (Dell, HP, etc).
If you have done, then just download the 'Mobility Modifier', and you'll be able to use the same drivers as everyone else.
It's not a case of ATI, it's a case of the manufacturers not allowing it (why though, I have no idea).

im playing this game 1920x1080p 16x AA (not QAA) ultra detail, minimum fps 46 average 60+ in all courses, my system in this game to minimum fps 46 only london night racing course ( = , give me ur CPU ~.~
HD5970 high power card & GTX 295 nice , 2x gtx 275 GPU, imposiable 30 & 60 fps .
Use u outdor camera and u see 80+ fps

and also, DiRT 2 is written for the ATi architecture, so like NV based games, (though the other way around in this), the ATi card has the advantage.

che test misero...cmq io ho la GTX 295 e con DiRT 2 ha problemi xkè vede solo la GPU 2 quindi nn vede lo sli...appunto i massimi fps che ho sono solo 70 FPS negli spazi aperti!
a londra come in qst video a 1680x1050 AAx4 tutto ultra di media faccio i 59.7 FPS minimi 45.2....

Yes, my monitor is a Samsung t220 and it supports 1680x1050 the rest of settings are maximum...anyway, i ment to say that i can play the came very well with them !!! ( i will test it on a plasma tv with a HD resolution )

they compare these video cards cuz they're the most powerful cards in the market, both are dual-gpu and have a very close price

maybe it supports, maybe not, but i guess it's not CF or Sli support, it's the dual gpu support that counts
I know the difference of performance seems to be too big, but in GTA IV the GTX295 got 32FPS and 81% of CPU usage , while the 5970 got 64FPS with only 28% of CPU usage
remembering that GTA IV does not support CF nor Sli
and it's not an ati game, they just did that marketing becuz of the dx11
if i say "cuz it's a nvidia game" everytime ati gets owned, it'd be crappy
