im in 1.32 in the blue i trained for 3 or so years with these guys they are the best combat real method that worked for me many years on the doors, no bull stances or katas or overblown throws that CANT work on the street!
collected by kadocnikov who was in army in that moment, but in the form of scientist.systema is collection of ancient styles like slaviano-goretskaya borba, sambo, tropa etc and few modern styles like fist fighting by gruntovsky etc
this art seems effortless, but does it work. i have seen arts that look like this but only work in a class room, or if the attacker is a complete idiot or drunk. i took aikido for a while, until i realized that it only has a few usefull things to learn. the rest was nonsense and would get you killed. so would systema work in the street, or is it like aikido. dont tell about what it did a 100 years ago. times have changed, and martial art had evolved
what do you mean does it work.. systema isnt a martial art, but just pure combat, you do whatever you have to do to make things work. so there are no guides or rules.
It will work if you have the mental strenght and the control of your emotions... Unlike aikido, wich demands a very long and good practice to be efficient, with Systema you can defend yourself after just one year, but only if you can stay calm in a hard situation. Systema conditions your body to behave in case of attack, it works on instinct, not on precise placement of the feet and the hands to unbalance your foe. But at least, this martial art is not suitable for everyone.
Systema was developed by the Russian army to be simple, efficient and deadly. It was meant and used as the way to fight in hand to hand combat in real life war.
systema is a evolved martial art for the military ... what you mean is the martial art the cossacks tought for generations (dont know how it is called though)
It's just martial arts people, jeez! If you look up anything on the internet with the intention of bashing it, then realize that there are more people watching it than you who actually have an interest in it. So if you're looking for supporters in your cause to bash it, then don't expect you're going to get very many. Also realize too that there are either no or a lot less Systema practitioners looking up vids of your style and bashing it. Something to think about.
a lot of people say that in systema videos the "opponents" are too compliant, it's a demo so of course they're gonna do it slow and make it look easy, they're not gonna really start breaking bones...but if you ever get a chance to get joint locked by systema applications it's so damn painful you have no choice but to be compliant
isnt 2 compliant , if u got an arm or u neck in such positions u soon understand u better let it go or u will break sumthing! just like in judo after there u realize there is no hope of avoiing being projected the best is let u self go 2 minimize dmg..
i have to disagree. have you ever been in a real fight? you WANT to knwo hat real energy is, cuz once you are in a real life situation, and the movements become faster, there's very little chance you will be able to pull off half those moves. I have nothign it as a MA but imo it is not practical. and beleive me i've seen it before, where systema practioners cant' handle real life scenarios, real energy (well not all the time) it looks great but doens't always work as it is meant to.
If systema doesn't have Kata or taolu how do you teach beginner something ? So far i didn't see a instructor teaching a single individual technique only some ballet moves ? I practice wing chun and is hard for me to believe that someone can defend himself against chain punches with that moves ! But i'm open to experiments !!!
systema provokes natural reaction so you basically flow with the movement instead of trying to remember a set kata, cause chances are when you're in a real fight your enemy is not gonna be in a position that's fit for a kata application
I say as many others say try it! it bases more on the induvidual. in other words my systema is quite different from my trainer. yet we are both very able to fend of an attacker.
a lot of this shit is just bullshit. people let him push them around cause they're afraid to make him look stupid and embaress him. if you really wanted to fight back or defend yourself this dude wouldn't be able to do a third of what he's doing in the video. real fighting is brutal and ackward not all nice like in the video.
this martial art is used in russian army, and it's all the time effective. if it was just for beautiful movements, it would be not used in war. this technic is made to stop opponents and then kill them.
@hillerm you should read what you wrote: "why don't we ever SEE ...?" ... I went out an tried it bro... you only live once - might as well try stuff out, don't just be a spectator. I got to feel his work - the man is very good (out of your sphere of experience - out of mine when I met him)
I think a lot of people from heavy external arts don't understand how it can be effective while being that relaxed. It's a completely different way of going about it.
A lot of people seem to treat systema as a hoax, but it looks very effective to me. It's refreshing to see a martial art that understands and uses body mechanics in a creative way.

No, it wasn't.
It had already existed, they just practiced it.
Stopping someone from doing something and then doing it yourself doesn't mean you developed something.

He is a man with considerable operational military and police experience. In the clip he is teaching and demonstrating work, not having a fight.
