  • i really wish i could learn this trade

  • Wow, the difference is huge! I think I want to shop with you!

  • I am impressed with the work you perform. I recently picked up on the joy of writing with fountain pens. Please continue to post videos like this.

  • Wow, is it your standard practice to head strait for the diamond wheel when inking a pen fresh out of the box ? Seems a bit extreme! As you observed, the flow does start to improve after the initial inking (and tine alignment). I'd be surprised if after a flush and a few minutes of use that the skipping would not go away. Yes, you have experience...but seems like you're tuning it to your specific preferences and expectations.

  • "they put them in tight" THATS WHAT SHE SAID!

  • Yes, a Pelikan skipping! My M800 did just that so i returned the nib to Pelikan an received a new one - no questions asked. What a difference, the new nib is fantastic!

  • A Pelikan skipping?! It's very incomun, almost anecdotic!

My M800 Italic Broad 1.5mm was awesome "out of the box".

  • great video - thanks!

  • Excellent video and a fantastic demonstration of your work John. Very insightful - thanks.

  • I cannot understand why or how a reputable pen company like 'Pelican' can send what is in effect a 'sample to an expert', without first having made sure the nib is perfect?

Perhaps it would also suggest other similar pens with extra broad nibs may be sent out in a similar fashion, with the exact same 'faults' as this one was. Either the original 'grinding wheels' were worn or the wrong part of the wheel was used, or, horrors of horrors, the person who ground it knew not what they were doing!

    Hello Mr Mottishaw,

I saw you at the Kensington London pen show and ordered two pens from you.

I have just let two mugs of coffee go cold because I have watch this fascinating and very knowledge giving (is that the right way to phrase it?) and I think it should have been the first video you should have put on-line, as it gives so much insight into your work and skill, and, answered all those questions it took me a couple of hours to ask in London! > > >
