That's just heart breaking...."I dont know when my dad's coming home, but im hungry and miss him". All of those kids deserve a good life, and education....:( sad................
@kodojr If that is how you feel about Early Childhood Education, then you are going to the wrong facilities. I have worked in many of them and there is very little, if any down time....
I Saw This Video For The First Time On Saturday at A Confrence I Went To For College, It Made My Cry, Then My Anti-Opression Teacher Showed It To The Whole Class On Monday Morning and I Dont Think There Was A Dry Eye In The Whole Class (A Class Of 53 People) Then I Saw It Agin On My Night Class On Tuesday And I Cried Again - I Felt So Stupid But It Is One Of Those Video's That Just Makes You Cry - I Personally Would Love To Invest In A Childs Life
watched this at my staff meeting tonight. so sad. but makes me feel good about the job im doing. it does change lives, the first 5 years CAN change the cycle. I provide a safe and happy place for these children.
this video is so touching and meaningful! it makes me feel so grateful for the wonderful life my parents gave me and it makes me really want to help these kids!
If you have a bad day or everthing seems all at a lost, watch this video, it will bring everything back into reality and make you realize why we take care of children
What absolutely breaks my heart is that instead of putting our focus into programs like this to help these potentially amazing children, we are encouraging parents in these situations to have abortions because their child wouldn't have a chance.
Its this absolutely ridiculous American attitude of taking the easy way out
This is a wonderful video. It shows that we know what should be done. It is essential that we have EVERYONE working together, from parents to providers, including government and others.
This is a sobering video. WE must concentrate on not only the child and the child's schooling.... but how we help the families. To truly make a change it has to be multifaceted including all of the family.
Early education programs do not supplant parents, but support them as their childs first and most important teacher. The sad reality is that many low-income parents grew up in poverty and may not have the tools to support their childs education. Evidence-based programs coach low-income parents on how to best support their childs education at school and at home starting before the child is born. Only by supporting the family can we narrow the achievement gap and break the cycle of poverty.
Those kids not being properly cared for in their first 5 years is CHILD ABUSE and NEGLECT. Having them in a babysitting program that they want to call education is simply pulling children out the home so the government can have them sufficiently brainwashed to their liking before they get to kindergarten. So how about we prevent child abuse and require parents to RAISE their children instead of just spitting them out for government handouts and neglecting them.
Children who are abused/neglected go into foster care until their parents show some remorse/improvement. They're pretty remorseful when their food stamps, welfare, WIC, etc, goes away. The only normal moments of childhood they have are during foster care, when they are SENT TO PRESCHOOL! You may do a fine job of raising your children, but you are not raising ALL of the children in the world. Get out of your shell, VOLUNTEER, and help some of the children who don't have you for a parent!
Home visitation and early education programs teach parents the skills they need to form a healthy bond with their children. There is a direct correlation between the parent child bond and child abuse. The greater the bond the less the risk of abuse. Please do your homework before you post comments.
@TheNlyorac So what are you doing to help encourage people to make responsible sexual choices? Are you volunteering to babysit so a couple can get their marriage back on track? Do you help out the mother who has gotten out of an abusive marriage? Do you help out the family with the father holding down two part-time jobs because he was in one of the industries that isn't doing well and got down-sized? Or do you just sit at your computer and undermine those who give a damn?
@TheNlyorac.....That's not what this video, nor most of the comments being made here are talking about. I am an Early HeadStart teacher, and we are partnering WITH the parents of young children who have risk factors such as poverty or disibilities and helping them to be successful parents in the home, so that their children can be successful in their lives.

This video makes me feel so proud to work in early childhood. I have invested the past 35 years of my life to improving the first five years for our country's children and their families.
If you are trying to learn more about early childhood I encourage you to also seek a physician practice that utilizes Healthy Steps. This has been an incredibly effective way of educating parents with young children.
All of the "academic" programs/tools in the world will not solve what happens in the first five years of life. We must invest in children before they come to school, and we must address the social/emotional needs of children once they are in school. Once in school, the relationship between the student and the teacher is the most important aspect of the child's success in school, not how many minutes are spent on each subject. Let's invest our time and treasure in what really matters.

My professor shared this video with me, just heart stopping. If this video doesn't make you want to advocate for children, then nothing will.

was so accurate as it related to the child care, not all, but your public money is paying for kids to be strapped in to do nothing
