I would like to see these caves treated as Mexico's equivalent of a protected national park & allow the water back in, so ROVs & divers can do the exploring. This way there will be FAR less damage to the cave & it's inhabitants, which are likely to be few b/c the silver & lead. The lack of life is just as important as the life found, esp. in light of the silver & lead content, which hopefully will be restored when these are refilled by the mining co. I' d love to study these caves!
@fasantupp sitting for 15 mins is a lot different from moving around for possibly longer. they can't just get up the second they've had enough, they still have to climb out!
It's so beautiful, like a giant geode! Instead of sending heavy, klutzy humans in there to stomp all over the place, breaking things with every step, why not use small robots? The technology certainly exists, and even after it's filled with water, the cave could still be explored and photographed.
