I hear that Governor Cuomo plans to use the island to build a facility to carry out his own sick experiments on recently layed off state workers. Would be a great location for an Old Country Buffet instead!
You all can thank the assholes Nita Lowry and Andy span fir wasting 30 million dollars if our money to knock down all the buildings. We can't keep hospitals open. Teachers are getting laid off. Mt Vernon and Yonkers need serious help with gangs and drug dealers. And a bunch of buildings is more important, great state we live in!
amazing video! how did you get there? i loved watching this. wow. I wish I could go there. Are you going back? Have you been to Hart's Island? Loved the video!!
They say you can't go back and boy are they right!! I was an Army Brat stationed on Ft Slocum 1959-61. It was a beautiful place to live. We went to New Rochelle High School. But being an Army Brat means you only live 2 years at a time in any one place. I missed it like crazy and now it is flattened!! They haven't even left one shred of evidence that the Fort existed. For histories sake, I wish they would have taken care of it too. It has a lot of history behind it. Thanks for the video.
On the north side of island is a small beach that makes it easy to ride up onto with the boat. We generally anchor off the shore for awhile waiting until there a minimal amount of boats in site. The very first time we tried going on a patrol boat stopped us as soon as we stepped off the boat but since then we've had no problems.
Thanks, I was there a handfull of times in the late 1980's. What a fun place to explore and I have some great photos. Thanks for the walk down memory lane.
Greetings from a former New Yorker! Great video! I liked the footage in the garage with the old cars. I only explored Fort Slocum once about 25 years ago. Sadly, it looks like it's being demolished according to the aerial photos I've seen.
