@chasingthrees Howdy yea Final Fantasy was the only reason I went to so much trouble to try and get it working again! The disc I've got there is the origins disc, so FF1! :D Enjoy your FF dude!
@iEvilNemesis No worries, and no homo taken (so to speak!) When I found the fix myself I could have quite easily screamed that at the top of my voice to a passing piss stained tramp I was so happy! (I didn't btw).
@genickle1987 lol, however, it did work but then the next day it didnt, so now my PS2 doesnt play disks again :( well, it plays PS2 disks, just not PS1, i wana play PS1 games
@iEvilNemesis Ah damn sorry it didn't work out, I think it might have gone that way for me and I bit the bullet and got myself an older model 60GB PS3 which is backward compatible and plays all my old PS1 and PS2 games
@themasterofmagician Well, that's the way it worked for me, but it really does depend why it's not reading the disc. But yea basically it happened like that for me. But I'd only suggest the clear plastic disc thing because that didn't damage my disc or anything. If you need to kind of use trial and error, best to use discs that are spares or unused as you say. :)
This actually will work with any CD that's light enough, I put my nonfuctioning Crash 2 upside down on top of Resident Evil 3, which has been giving me trouble, and it worked perfectly fine.
What game is that anyway? That does help, thx! I might record my ps2 not reading ps1 discs properly and put a blank CD on top after xmas, sometime when my Dad's not in work. I can't now even though I made my account yesterday, cos I don't have a USB 4 my fone and I recorded all my vids with that, so I gotta wait.
@FanOfGames990 It's Final Fantasy I (From the final Fantasy Origins double set for PS1). Yea my vid's just done off my phone, but luckily I got a cable with it. Anyway, glad it works. Shame it works for some and not for others though.
@FanOfGames990 I think somewhere else in the comments someone has tried it with a slim ps2 and it may have scratched the disc a bit, so I'd say probably not. And again, not sure about the blank black CDs, if they weigh the same, I don't see why not...but I tried all of this stuff out when I was nearly raging my tits off because I had about 6 weeks off uni and no FF to play...hence the nearly destroyed PS2...HOWEVER, if your PS2 is dear to you...I wouldn't risk it!
@mcjohn127ps3gtaaddme Ah awesome, glad it's helped a few people! That's why I put the video up because I couldn't find aaaanything online anywhere, just randomly found something about the weight of discs etc. Thanks for the comment too!
Not sure about a PS2 disc not reading on a PS2...originally I had problems with PS1 games on my PS2...I could only suggest the lens/laser realigning and cleaning...but I've never had a problem with that one...sorry I can't help any further. :S Hope you sort it out....
@doodlerman To be honest I'm not sure, I've never tried it with one. As long as the mechanisms for reading discs (i.e. the weight distribution for identifying DVDs/games) is the same, then I don't see why not. Have a bang and let us know what happens. Obviously my method won't work for everyone, I'm just shitting happy it worked for me...also...problem solved...bought a 60GB PS3 that's backwards compatible = end of PS2 read errors ...huzzah!
@genickle1987 it didn't actually work and the disk got a little scratched around the edges, so it doesn't really work for the slim ps2s. luckily i tested the disk on another working ps2 and it still works :)
@allstarsnorks Yea I found the transparent CD somehow makes my ps2 read my ps1 discs, when it doesn't usually. I read somewhere that the ps1 discs are lighter than ps2 discs and so sometimes need a little extra weight (I've seen people try adding squares of tape too).
I sold out and solved my problem my getting a 60GB ps3 that now plays all of my games :)
Gave it several attempts, finally ended up just having to crack it open and clean the lens. I will keep this trick in mind for the future, though, when the same issue inevitably crops back up! lol Thanks!
I'm not sure if that'll work the other way round...I thought that it worked adding weight to the PS1 discs because they are lighter than the PS2 ones...I suppose it can't hurt to try it though. Other than that I wouldn't really know what to advise, sorry! Hope you get it fixed though!
Glad it works! After posting, I've found that sometimes it doesn't work if you turn the PS2 on with both discs inside it, but it will work when you eject the tray and re-load the discs again, something to do with the way the PS2 aligns discs when they're loaded in rather than started up with discs inside.
my old ps2 30001r had this problem with blue ps2 disc, I replaced the white magnet that is attached to the top of the cd drive(where the laser warning label is). all was good. but that ps2 screwed up after a while it scratched my dvd so I ave a 39001 now that works great lol
I have a similar problem on my scph-30004, but without that awful loading-screech. Regretfully your tip doesn´t work for me. Looks like I have to continue looking for a fix for it.
OMG THANK YOU SO MUCH I CAN PLAY FINAL FANTASY NOW O__O U HAVE NO IDEA... HOW MUCH THIS MEANS :')

Also a few PS2 games which are CD do not work,
Every PS1 and PS2 game which has a black side is a CD, common problem for fat models.
1. Get a slim
2. Open up the PS2 and clean the lenses

You can also trying placing another PS1 or PS2 disc on top of the PS1 disc you're trying to play. It worked for me. No more disc read error messages.
