Valapaca: The first few televised ceremonies were held simultaneously in New York and Los Angeles because back then the theatre was a great American art form rather than something for TV actors to do between tapings. So people like Geraldine Page and Eva Marie Saint and Thelma Ritter could still attend the ceremonies without having to leave their plays. Audrey Hepburn accepted her Oscar the previous year from New York.
