I've been a fan of hers forever. Eva Marie is beauty, radiance, and wit ("I may have the baby right here!!") personified. Thank you for this wonderful clip.
she's deffinately beautiful woman she carried pregnancy beautifully and like other stars of that time didn't draw attention to it by the clothes they wore like the stars of today do though a couple of years after this she did lose a part for the same reason of pregnancy that's Long Hot Summer she was supposed to have been Clara but was preggers before production started so Joanne Woodward replaced her
Valapaca: The first few televised ceremonies were held simultaneously in New York and Los Angeles because back then the theatre was a great American art form rather than something for TV actors to do between tapings. So people like Geraldine Page and Eva Marie Saint and Thelma Ritter could still attend the ceremonies without having to leave their plays. Audrey Hepburn accepted her Oscar the previous year from New York.
It's a pity the orchestra didn't play a cue from Lenny's great score for the film.

What a great, unusually honest speech for the 50's. I never knew they ever handed
out Oscars in New York before? Always loved Eva Marie Saint!
JOJO22858 7 months ago
@JOJO22858 I think they had the ceremony in New York because it was still considered the cultural capital of the country. I think it still is!

The academy back then couldn't afford plane tickets for the New York actors to travel to L.A.?

@nognilk But oddly enough they could afford to fly the trophies to NY!!

@Valapaca because she was in New York, while Frank was in L.A.
Sort of like a teleconference award show.

Can you see that she was pregnant?
selma1930 2 years ago 7
MrMacs87: She was pregnant at the time and gave birth to a son two days later. That's why she says "I may have the baby right here."

@MrMacs87 she was pregnant

Eva is so adorable right here.. it's too bad she never did a film of this magnitude again. It's always a treat to see her in newer films, however.
