  • Well damn he a grown man, his voice is going to deepen. Look at El Debarge. All's I want to know is why is it Johnny is standing out, when he is supposed to be blending.

  • @TremellluvWhit Haha I heard that too!

  • this performance was rubbish. and they really need to ditch those daft dance moves. was a good song though

  • @jamiej2k6 The song is about 20 years old. Those were the popular dance moves at the time of that song's release. Dipshit

  • @Vergadoce and they looked corny when the song was first released

  • @jamiej2k6 Ahh...you're a lonely stupid troll. Fail.

  • @Vergadoce lool far from lonley. go wank over there poster you lil fanboy

  • All 6 members will be in concert starting 12/29/11 in Cali then the next night in Phoenix AZ They are currently in rehearsal They are the best of the best and have staying power. I'm sure when I see Ralph singing in concert he will do just fine . They always show up with their "A" game. NE4life

  • Love this song and New Edition but damn, Ralph was young here and his breath control was horrible straight out the gate on the first note and never improved for the whole song! How can a choreographer have a group do all that dancing and not chin-check (or modify the dance steps of) the lead singer for not having breath control? SMH

  • @SawanYHWH Ralph Tresvant actually wasn't young here. Ralph was 20 years old when New Edition put out this song (& its classic dance steps) in 1988. I think this Apollo performance happened in 2004 or 2005. Ralph would've been about 37 years old at the time (he's 43 now). He was almost twice as old as he was when the song & dance moves came out, so he's gonna sound a tad winded. It doesn't help that he smokes. Even when N.E. ain't at its best, they still beat today's groups though!

  • @herkeda Ok, didn't know that it was a 2k performance. Figured he smoked too. I agree, they beat 99.9% of all groups today....the only reason I left off .1% is because I have hope for the future.

  • There's a need for groups like this today. Group's that can sing & dance with precision never go out of style.

  • Everytime they do this song,..........they get better smoother with it! *LOL*

  • I hate to say it, but none of them have the voice of Johnny. Even though he is singing back up, you can clearly hear is voice coming through.

  • @ronin752 Dont matter. They were successful and rocking the house at live shows long before Johnny G ever showed up. ... I prefer Ralph's voice as the lead b/c it's smoother and fits the image of the group better. Johnny's style works best as a solo

  • These guys were the best of their time and there will never be another group like them, Rock Solid

  • These guys were the best of their time and there will never group like them, Rock Solid

  • Nobody can touch this song nobody..They are the best...

  • SOLID!!

  • Do we even have any mainstream groups that exist in R&B today?

  • like i was saying all of their moves are tight allllllllllllllllllllllllllllll of them

  • beast song man

  • Wow. The groups today could learn from these guys.

  • The dance like that and to be able to sing LIVE is Excellent. Very Impressed.

  • 3 people believe it isn't love

  • wow when music was great....where did it go so wrong?

  • I Swear they will forever have the Moves ... i love them !!!!!!!!!

  • Singing *live* at the Apollo... now THAT takes guts!!

  • @n0wave first thing that crossed my mind when Ralph opened his mouth

  • Ralph kinda looks like a young Charlie Wilson (from the Gap Band)

  • The best in the biz, real music and entertainment

  • I look forward to seeing them at the Essence Musical Festival in July

  • I look forward to seeing them at the Essence Musical Festival in July

  • Man so smooth!!! I <3 NE!

  • I know they was heated in the beginning because all you heard was "go Johnny" like it was just him.

  • You can hear Johnny on the harmonies...lol his voice just wasn't for a blend...and that is not a criticism

  • @SugarShandy I know they needed to turn his mic off. He was outshining them and couldn't even help it lol

  • New Edition 30th Anniversary World Tour coming soon!!!!!!!

  • @StubbyCub 4 real don't be making shit up

  • @Marc82193 Seriously, they are working out plans, Ricky Bell announced not too long ago. They will be at the Essence Music Festival too, all six of the guys!!!!

  • How many ppl can still do this at 40!!! NE fan for life!

  • #1 - J5

    #2 - NE

  • To all new groups out there: watch this because this is how it's done.

  • ...New Edition is timeless! Awesome

  • Anyone thinking of starting a R&B group take notes. This is how you perform! Dance moves on point, singing, and outfits everything just on a tight level. This group is always going to be one of the best.

  • Tight! ....but I'll be damn if Ralph wasn't outta breath from the first note.

I cant shit on their game. I grew up doing ALL of those moves. Long live NE! (including JG)

  • well what could i say.Old school bring that wood brings back that swager guys

  • I love yall!!!!!!

  • i love them 4 real!!!!

  • MUSIC SMELLS LIKE SHIT NOWADAYS

  • NICEEEEE ;-)

  • They killed this performance...damn this was tight!

  • YOU CAN'T MESS WITH THIS PEOPLE!! NE4LIFE!!!

  • I swear they are the SMOOTHEST out .. Most copied and emulated!!!!! NEW EDITION rocks godbless these dudes.. This shit was sMOOTh!!!!!!!

  • We need some New Edition Flash Mob tributes!

  • New Edition should go on an arena tour with En Vogue, Boyz II Men, Troop as the opening acts!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Ralph looks like a young Charlie Wilson up there. Could be his son.

  • as polished as The Jackson 5 in their heyday!! Love New Edition!! There is no 'boy group' now that could even get close to either J5 or NE!!

  • Comment removed

  • @colbysmum04

...or the Temptations. Their choreography was also very tight, but I have never seen any group do anything as intricate as what NE did with this song. The Temps would have struggled to get those steps down, as would have the Jacksons (excluding MJ, of course). The precision was incredible and deserved an Emmy. Think about it: MJ was nominated for an Emmy for performing "Billie Jean" on Motown 25. This performance was almost as good. Plus NE actually sang; Mike lipsynced.

  • @blackprince206 hahaha i can't knock MJ, if it wasn't for him i don't think i would have known about NE... Both brilliant... Going to see NE in Sydney(Ralph, Bobby and Johnny) on saturday night. I have never seen them play live(well Bobby on his own)...i can't wait!

  • THIS IS THE BEST WAY TO START MY MORNING.....YEAY!!!

  • EXCELLENT PERFORMANCE ..THEY LOOKED AWSOME !!

  • LOVE THIS TUNE...

reminds me of my clubbing days...!!!

  • they KILL it!

  • My boys!! Ralph is so smooth! Check his swag! Lol Their dance moves are on point! Lifelong fan!

  • New Edition Forever!!!!

  • Like how Johnny going off in background wish it was in the recorded version more J.G

  • I have a lot of respect for NE not lip syncing and still dancing hard throughout the performance. Acts are too scared to do that today.

  • EXCELLENT!!!! U DONT SEE THIS ANY LONGER!

  • No group of today's generation could come close to touching this, not a one.

  • @vegasbaby92

These are very slick opening dance moves that we are watching Vegababe! Very slick!

  • @ESSENCEOFEACHTHING & performed exactly the same from the orig vid 20+yrs ago...impressive

  • @vegasbaby92 well music just gets better and better. there was never suppose to be another frank sinatra but along came Sammy Davis. There was never suppose to be another Sammy, but along came Elvis. There was never suppose to be another Elvis, but along came Micheal Jackson. It goes So on and So on. But you are right there are no groups these days... i mean really none. music has never been like this. but it will get better.

  • @tweezee I wish I could be as optimistic as you. I think the days of artists like those you mention...the truly gifted mega-superstars who's music is embedded not only in America but throughout the world, are over. Mainstream R&B music today is shit...plain and simple...and there are no indications that it's going to get better anytime soon. You can find talened singers but you have to search for them on independent labels...and as for as finding new groups like NE, you can forget about it.

  • @deejayroyalt1 I understand what you mean. but ppl said the saem thing about louis armstrong, then Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr, Elvis Presley, Micheal Jackson and so on the list goes. Good music never ends. I agree music is shit right now...but things move on. History has shown us that. Blues was as good as it gets at one point. How often you hear blues now? Things change, things move on. I just pray for the best.

  • @tweezee All I can say to that is...scoot over and I'll join you in prayer. =)

  • @tweezee There's a market 4 good R&B groups. I think the problem is acts today don't know how to work hard. History shows groups & soloist's from the 60's thru the 90's worked hard. The Motown acts ALL went to school that Berry Gordy owned to learn how to perform. NE worked constantly as kids & into adulthood. Usher, Beyonce,NE, Motown are hard working performers. NE hasn't had a hit in years. But they have classics & are classic performers. They still sell out shows & do what kids today can't

  • Now thats how u put in a show! Hotness! Lawddd i remember my sis had a new edition tape on VHS back in 95/96 and i would watch this video everyday tryna dance like them!

  • this the best live performance at the apollo 2004

  • This is why New Edition is the shiz-nit! Groups who could perform like this died out in the 90's.

Then were were swindled and had to put up with (literally) pale imitations of such groups. I don't need to name names. lol.

  • @MystroMusicMan

I'll name the imitators: New Kids on the Block/NKOTB, H-Town, Az Yet, Backstreet Boys, N'Sync, 98 Degrees, Shai, O-town, Silk, Hi-Five, Five-Star (actually they copied the J5 more), 3T, Dru Hill, Joe Public, Intro (Kenny "G-Love" Green contracted AIDS), Jodeci, Hanson..all were imitators of New Edition, to one degree or another, but did not have the longevity. NKOTB, Backstreet Boys and N'Sinc were more commercially successful b/c they were white and marketed perfectly.

  • @blackprince206 Well, a particular group can be influenced or inspired by a group like New Edition but it doesn't mean they imitate them. Look at Jodeci, Dru Hill, H-Town, and Intro, for example. They sound nothing like N.E. but of course they were inspired by them. Now, NKOTB, BSB, N'Sync? Yeah, with some Boyz II Men thrown in for flavor. One could say N.E. are J5 imitators which could or could not be the case there also.

  • wow omg they so smooth love this performance

  • High school memories!

  • @mrthundaboots those were the good ole days......

  • BEAUTIFUL AFTER ALL THESE YEARS THEY STILL GOT IT!!!=

  • IN THE HISTORY OF GROUPS THE TEMPTATIONS AND NEW EDITION ARE THE ONES WHO HAD THE COMPLETE PACKAGE, NOT TO DISCOUNT THOSE OTHER TRAILBLAZERS DRAMACTICS,DELLS,4 TOPS,STYLALISTICS,PIPS, AND LETS NOT FORGET THOSE CATS TROOP. THOSE BOY BANDS DIDN'T HAVE A SHOT TO HANG WITH THESE FELLAS. THE BEST ULTIMATELY,THE JACKSONS

  • @MrMactab You're right but, don't get Troop wrong. Their performances actually rivaled New Editions. They just weren't as popular. The Jackson 5 and Temptations were masters no question. However NE slightly eases out in front. They had so many elements of music all rolled into one group. This is why they were able to be as successful as solo acts because of them being able to implement R&B, Gospel, Rap, Pop, etc.

    Great post though.

  • Off the FN hook! What happened to music today! They need to pull up this video and take lessons and watch the Masters work!

  • @chino1922 Chino, AMEN!!! They still rock the mic, the stage, the fly gear, and everything else! I've loved these brothers for 27 years, since I was 11 years old, (especially Ronnie!!!) and I hope to keep lovin' 'em for 27 more!

  • New Edition will always be my favorite group of all time. Can't wait to see what they come up with next. No matter what it is I'll be there cheering them on

  • WOWOWOWOW

  • They killed it. That choreography is some of the absolute best I have ever seen. If the Temptations had seen them, they would have been jealous. If the Jackson-5 had to follow that...I don't know, man...

  • THEY STILL HAD IT!!

  • luv the dance moves!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • That was awesome. I didn't know they were this good live. Very professional in every way. The soundman needs to be shot because he didn't mix the backing vocals properly.....otherwise perfect performance.

  • They are the shit!! the choreography was on point and ralph..baby...will you marry me????? lol..

  • @lushusprincess Right on girl! He is soooo fine!

  • fucking best entertainers!!!!!!!!!!

  • The Temptations of my generation but ....never to be duplicated, imitated or otherwise...they will ALWAYS get my props....

  • Comment removed

  • Thats a Real Group everyone in that Group has Talent, NE Forever!

  • Oh hol here they are cheering for Ronnie. OMG he was my fave one in the group and I am so happyt that he found a real women to settle down. Awww

  • After studying this thing over a hundred times I've officially got the routine down pat. I could get up there and do it from start to finish. Those guys are dope.

  • @thenewtbolt

Damn. You're better than me. took me almost 20 years.

  • I've always wanted to learn this routine...

  • @xxxMrBligexxx Me tooooo! I'm in the process of learning. Aha. [:

  • @laurensunga dhat's kewl... ;D go 'head qiirl... LOL!

  • Their steps are tight.

  • dammm i miss da good old days

  • This is the act to beat---STILL. I have yet to see a "boy band" dance this hard and sing in 5-parts LIVE this tight since NE.

  • I remember when this was on t.v. a couple years ago or maybe more but check out my youtube channel @ 'drunknhigheena' thank yous

  • they look hell good out there and them white suits is crsip CAPITALCRISP......can't believe they still got IT i swear if I knew the steps i'd be the only fool in front of the stage dancing wit em much luv NE

  • Now that's classic! People, this is how it's done!

  • NE Forever

  • When was this

  • Thats the same stage the Jackson 5(and Michael Jackson) performed on....on thier way to ultimate stardom

  • The boyz still got it.

  • I don't care if Rizz is draggin' a damn oxygen tank around he still would sound better than most dudes "singing" today. They look a helluva lot better too. When (or better yet WHY) did dressing with style go OUT of style?

  • the last of the mohicans and its too bad they got robbed and never made 20 percent of what they should have. how the hell do you go on tour across the country and the tour bus drop you off back in the projects

  • they killed it

  • ralph sounded tired and out of breath......

  • OOO! This song makes me want 2 go back 2 England. This song was the jam! They are so hot in them white suits.

  • Classic and Classy .... Big thumbs up !!

  • choreography as crispy and clean as the white they was wearing!

    damn i miss them!

  • @Spligtown618 Yes...that dance routine is Classic. I still watch that video when I want to go back to 1988 Elementary school days.

  • What year was this?

  • Johnny Gill sounds smooth as hell with his backround vocals.

  • These men are in their 40's and moving like this!!!! There isn't an act that can touch them young or old!! NE4LIFE!!! God, please bring back the old skool and new jack swing sound. This garbage I'm hearing today makes my ears bleed!!!

  • @barton1941 lol. true

  • @redbaybie

If you get a chance to see them, GO!!!

I've seen the 3 times since highschool! LOL

  • Was this recently?

  • Comment removed

  • them boys killed that shit! that was dope! takes me back...

  • Wooo! What a great performance! NE will always be one of my favorite groups of all time.... @RalphTresvant @MrRickyBell @RonDeVoe

  • wow one of the few ppl who found ron the hottest out the group...

shit my mom, sister, and her friends were on ralph, then ricky, or johnny...mainly ralph.

  • i loved ralph the best but after him was ronny.

  • @Jerzeslugga Ralph is the hottest but i dont think ronnie is he is kind of ugly to me

  • What a great performance! Ralph on lead vocals smoked! Ronny, Johnny, Ricky and Mike sound smooth. And the awesome white outfits and totally tight choreography were "A-Plus"! This was New Edition at their best.

  • Groups don't dance like this anymore. N.E. is the best!

  • now compare this too the 1988 video. the artist of O9-1O would go bonkers just watching this. these guys were so talented and each had a special personality where you could put each one of them on your wall and they dont have too be on the same poster. ithink new edition is the sexiest group ever..... but that ronnie devoe was so fucking hott then and now. but lets stick too the subject these guys are amazing in evry way. and dont get the credit they deserve.. can we bring them back please!

  • ok i group with new edition they will always be my fav band and yes i also was big fan of jackson 5 we cant forget them ...if it wasnt for motown we wouldnt have the music today........ peace

  • nkotb surely your joking. New Edition is the best at what they did. "Boy Band" Ilm still laughing at that NKOTB comment. Funny stuff.

  • The best performing boy/man group of all time. Johnny's voice sounds great in the chorus. Just a little in front of the rest but still great.

  • NKOTB are white clones of NE. I like NKOTB too but NE's dance moves are more fluid and precise. And Johnny Gill's rich soulful voice is unmatched by many in the music industry. The energy and stage presence these guys have is phenominal.

  • Ridiculous!! There would be no New Kids if there wasn't a New Edition, they are rip offs. New Edition is way better. NKOTB just got a better deal because they are white and thatz the truth. Not trying to racist . But New Edition is better, their fans are very loyal. They don't put on a show like New Edition at all. Period New Edition to me is thre greatest group or boy band whatever you want to call them i Love their music!!!!!1

  • @knink24 Your ingnorance is very sad and disturibing hopefully your considered legally deaf to justify such a ridiculous comment.

  • favorite group of all time!! they look so polished and professional...a real group

  • love 1:29, when they start the second verse, and they shake their nice booties !!Ooooh, yeah boys dance it up, baby

  • GODDD, what it is about men/boys that dance together and harmonize that is so freakin sexy as hell!! Lord, just love me some Ralph, he looks so sexy here with his smooth voice, hat, and open shirt, good Lord, I need air

  • Johnny isn't blending. lol. but this is still tight

  • in music today we might never see a band like this again

  • they look tired lol but luv it lol not as good as when they were younger thought

  • 0:56 the group chorus hits and Johnny comes in so strong, his voice just jumps out from the rest of them haha

  • Can't help but to be reminded of the Temptations when I see New Edition peform, percision percision percision which is what the Temptations were known for.

  • indeed...i agree

  • did they perform another song on The Apollo, I missed it

  • Ralph is so freakin' sexy as hell, gotta love him, and Johnny's voice, could melt butter LOL,

  • This is my favorite live N.E. performance. I love these cats.

  • Greatest rnb group of all-time

  • No 2nd JACKSONS GREATEST OF ALL TIME PERIOD!!!

  • They styll got it

  • i was just going to say that they do tho

  • God I just love Ricardo (Ricky) Bell!!
