Well damn he a grown man, his voice is going to deepen. Look at El Debarge. All's I want to know is why is it Johnny is standing out, when he is supposed to be blending.
All 6 members will be in concert starting 12/29/11 in Cali then the next night in Phoenix AZ They are currently in rehearsal They are the best of the best and have staying power. I'm sure when I see Ralph singing in concert he will do just fine . They always show up with their "A" game. NE4life
Love this song and New Edition but damn, Ralph was young here and his breath control was horrible straight out the gate on the first note and never improved for the whole song! How can a choreographer have a group do all that dancing and not chin-check (or modify the dance steps of) the lead singer for not having breath control? SMH
@SawanYHWH Ralph Tresvant actually wasn't young here. Ralph was 20 years old when New Edition put out this song (& its classic dance steps) in 1988. I think this Apollo performance happened in 2004 or 2005. Ralph would've been about 37 years old at the time (he's 43 now). He was almost twice as old as he was when the song & dance moves came out, so he's gonna sound a tad winded. It doesn't help that he smokes. Even when N.E. ain't at its best, they still beat today's groups though!
@herkeda Ok, didn't know that it was a 2k performance. Figured he smoked too. I agree, they beat 99.9% of all groups today....the only reason I left off .1% is because I have hope for the future.
@ronin752 Dont matter. They were successful and rocking the house at live shows long before Johnny G ever showed up. ... I prefer Ralph's voice as the lead b/c it's smoother and fits the image of the group better. Johnny's style works best as a solo
@Marc82193 Seriously, they are working out plans, Ricky Bell announced not too long ago. They will be at the Essence Music Festival too, all six of the guys!!!!
Anyone thinking of starting a R&B group take notes. This is how you perform! Dance moves on point, singing, and outfits everything just on a tight level. This group is always going to be one of the best.
...or the Temptations. Their choreography was also very tight, but I have never seen any group do anything as intricate as what NE did with this song. The Temps would have struggled to get those steps down, as would have the Jacksons (excluding MJ, of course). The precision was incredible and deserved an Emmy. Think about it: MJ was nominated for an Emmy for performing "Billie Jean" on Motown 25. This performance was almost as good. Plus NE actually sang; Mike lipsynced.
@blackprince206 hahaha i can't knock MJ, if it wasn't for him i don't think i would have known about NE... Both brilliant... Going to see NE in Sydney(Ralph, Bobby and Johnny) on saturday night. I have never seen them play live(well Bobby on his own)...i can't wait!
@vegasbaby92 well music just gets better and better. there was never suppose to be another frank sinatra but along came Sammy Davis. There was never suppose to be another Sammy, but along came Elvis. There was never suppose to be another Elvis, but along came Micheal Jackson. It goes So on and So on. But you are right there are no groups these days... i mean really none. music has never been like this. but it will get better.
@tweezee I wish I could be as optimistic as you. I think the days of artists like those you mention...the truly gifted mega-superstars who's music is embedded not only in America but throughout the world, are over. Mainstream R&B music today is shit...plain and simple...and there are no indications that it's going to get better anytime soon. You can find talened singers but you have to search for them on independent labels...and as for as finding new groups like NE, you can forget about it.
@deejayroyalt1 I understand what you mean. but ppl said the saem thing about louis armstrong, then Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr, Elvis Presley, Micheal Jackson and so on the list goes. Good music never ends. I agree music is shit right now...but things move on. History has shown us that. Blues was as good as it gets at one point. How often you hear blues now? Things change, things move on. I just pray for the best.
@tweezee There's a market 4 good R&B groups. I think the problem is acts today don't know how to work hard. History shows groups & soloist's from the 60's thru the 90's worked hard. The Motown acts ALL went to school that Berry Gordy owned to learn how to perform. NE worked constantly as kids & into adulthood. Usher, Beyonce,NE, Motown are hard working performers. NE hasn't had a hit in years. But they have classics & are classic performers. They still sell out shows & do what kids today can't
Now thats how u put in a show! Hotness! Lawddd i remember my sis had a new edition tape on VHS back in 95/96 and i would watch this video everyday tryna dance like them!
I'll name the imitators: New Kids on the Block/NKOTB, H-Town, Az Yet, Backstreet Boys, N'Sync, 98 Degrees, Shai, O-town, Silk, Hi-Five, Five-Star (actually they copied the J5 more), 3T, Dru Hill, Joe Public, Intro (Kenny "G-Love" Green contracted AIDS), Jodeci, Hanson..all were imitators of New Edition, to one degree or another, but did not have the longevity. NKOTB, Backstreet Boys and N'Sinc were more commercially successful b/c they were white and marketed perfectly.
@blackprince206 Well, a particular group can be influenced or inspired by a group like New Edition but it doesn't mean they imitate them. Look at Jodeci, Dru Hill, H-Town, and Intro, for example. They sound nothing like N.E. but of course they were inspired by them. Now, NKOTB, BSB, N'Sync? Yeah, with some Boyz II Men thrown in for flavor. One could say N.E. are J5 imitators which could or could not be the case there also.
That was awesome. I didn't know they were this good live. Very professional in every way. The soundman needs to be shot because he didn't mix the backing vocals properly.....otherwise perfect performance.

After studying this thing over a hundred times I've officially got the routine down pat. I could get up there and do it from start to finish. Those guys are dope.
they look hell good out there and them white suits is crsip CAPITALCRISP......can't believe they still got IT i swear if I knew the steps i'd be the only fool in front of the stage dancing wit em much luv NE
I don't care if Rizz is draggin' a damn oxygen tank around he still would sound better than most dudes "singing" today. They look a helluva lot better too. When (or better yet WHY) did dressing with style go OUT of style?
the last of the mohicans and its too bad they got robbed and never made 20 percent of what they should have. how the hell do you go on tour across the country and the tour bus drop you off back in the projects
These men are in their 40's and moving like this!!!! There isn't an act that can touch them young or old!! NE4LIFE!!! God, please bring back the old skool and new jack swing sound. This garbage I'm hearing today makes my ears bleed!!!
What a great performance! Ralph on lead vocals smoked! Ronny, Johnny, Ricky and Mike sound smooth. And the awesome white outfits and totally tight choreography were "A-Plus"! This was New Edition at their best.

Attention everyone: I was in the audience at this particular show and somthing a lot of people don't know about this performance.
What you see in the show is the second take for their performance. The first take had to be reshot. No lie. When they first came out, for at least the first 45 seconds people were just sitting in their chairs. No cheering at all. They were jumping around on stage and people were wondering where the hell Bobby was! They stopped the show and made people stand. True.
now compare this too the 1988 video. the artist of O9-1O would go bonkers just watching this. these guys were so talented and each had a special personality where you could put each one of them on your wall and they dont have too be on the same poster. ithink new edition is the sexiest group ever..... but that ronnie devoe was so fucking hott then and now. but lets stick too the subject these guys are amazing in evry way. and dont get the credit they deserve.. can we bring them back please!
ok i group with new edition they will always be my fav band and yes i also was big fan of jackson 5 we cant forget them ...if it wasnt for motown we wouldnt have the music today........ peace

NKOtb are much better then NE. Not only are they better dancers, but there also better vocaly. Listen to NKOtb song which is called " Funny Feeling" duet by Jordan and joey. You cant compare anyone in the world with Jordan knight great singing style.
NKOTB are white clones of NE. I like NKOTB too but NE's dance moves are more fluid and precise. And Johnny Gill's rich soulful voice is unmatched by many in the music industry. The energy and stage presence these guys have is phenominal.
Ridiculous!! There would be no New Kids if there wasn't a New Edition, they are rip offs. New Edition is way better. NKOTB just got a better deal because they are white and thatz the truth. Not trying to racist . But New Edition is better, their fans are very loyal. They don't put on a show like New Edition at all. Period New Edition to me is thre greatest group or boy band whatever you want to call them i Love their music!!!!!1
GODDD, what it is about men/boys that dance together and harmonize that is so freakin sexy as hell!! Lord, just love me some Ralph, he looks so sexy here with his smooth voice, hat, and open shirt, good Lord, I need air
Can't help but to be reminded of the Temptations when I see New Edition peform, percision percision percision which is what the Temptations were known for.
Well damn he a grown man, his voice is going to deepen. Look at El Debarge. All's I want to know is why is it Johnny is standing out, when he is supposed to be blending.

@Jerzeslugga Ralph is the hottest but i dont think ronnie is he is kind of ugly to me
TaylorSwiftfan1010 1 year ago
What a great performance! Ralph on lead vocals smoked! Ronny, Johnny, Ricky and Mike sound smooth. And the awesome white outfits and totally tight choreography were "A-Plus"! This was New Edition at their best.

Groups don't dance like this anymore. N.E. is the best!

True.

now compare this too the 1988 video. the artist of O9-1O would go bonkers just watching this. these guys were so talented and each had a special personality where you could put each one of them on your wall and they dont have too be on the same poster. ithink new edition is the sexiest group ever..... but that ronnie devoe was so fucking hott then and now. but lets stick too the subject these guys are amazing in evry way. and dont get the credit they deserve.. can we bring them back please!
indianoma 2 years ago
ok i group with new edition they will always be my fav band and yes i also was big fan of jackson 5 we cant forget them ...if it wasnt for motown we wouldnt have the music today........ peace
candiekisses39 2 years ago
nkotb surely your joking. New Edition is the best at what they did. "Boy Band" Ilm still laughing at that NKOTB comment. Funny stuff.
leslady64 2 years ago 3
The best performing boy/man group of all time. Johnny's voice sounds great in the chorus. Just a little in front of the rest but still great.

NKOtb are much better then NE. Not only are they better dancers, but there also better vocaly. Listen to NKOtb song which is called " Funny Feeling" duet by Jordan and joey. You cant compare anyone in the world with Jordan knight great singing style.
knink24 2 years ago
NKOTB are white clones of NE. I like NKOTB too but NE's dance moves are more fluid and precise. And Johnny Gill's rich soulful voice is unmatched by many in the music industry. The energy and stage presence these guys have is phenominal.
betterworld21 2 years ago 7
Ridiculous!! There would be no New Kids if there wasn't a New Edition, they are rip offs. New Edition is way better. NKOTB just got a better deal because they are white and thatz the truth. Not trying to racist . But New Edition is better, their fans are very loyal. They don't put on a show like New Edition at all. Period New Edition to me is thre greatest group or boy band whatever you want to call them i Love their music!!!!!1

@knink24 Your ingnorance is very sad and disturibing hopefully your considered legally deaf to justify such a ridiculous comment.
