  • I apologize for posting the same coment! Not quite sure how to do this yet.

  • Farah, thank you for your assistance. I have asked my kids to buy me this for xmas. Hopefully you can assist me if I have trouble getting it. I have been using the waterhole rituals for about a year, and looking for some videos showing more of them in depth, which I'm hoping your video will provide. Hopefully, if I have a problem getting the download, you will be able to help.

  • @dturi Are you talking about the On Demand videos on my site on I Instructor? I am updating these at the moment if you can bear with me. I should have them sorted out soon. : )

  • I also follow the Waterhole Rituals, and loved watching this video, since my 19 yr old Skipper does the same things. However, I have carrots outside the fence. I couldn't tell if you were treating Mercury in this Video. My horse is 100% food oriented. I am starting to practice what you were doing in this video stretching out the carrot treat. Sometimes when we are running together he acts like he is going to nip me sometimes ( I know how to avoid these though).

    Any thoughts?

  • @dturi Hi, I am not using treats in this video. I don't usually use them during this type of play. With the exception of when we are working on grass (the grass becomes the treat) I use them more in my Liberty exercises and more advanced work. There are also food specific exercises I do. I find Dominant types do try to nip during close work and how I address that is different in each moment based on the horse I am working with. Mercury seldom does this anymore. : )

  • Hi, I love your v-blogs - it's so great to see the actual work going into the training instead of a montage of cute tricks set to music. I'm half stabling a horse and I love playing with him at liberty, he reacts similarly to Mercury and seems to really enjoy it.He gets quite exuberant though (e.g. kicking out as he runs)

and, being a big boy, could be dangerous. Have you ever been injured while playing? Do you ever think Mercury might hurt you accidentally/on purpose?Thanx for the great videos!

  • @DrMickel Hi! Thanks for your comment. Yes I post a lot of examples of this work on my channel. It is always possible for you or the horse to misjudge space when you are working this way. It is very important for you to be able to read your horse. I have had Mercury since he was 1 and can read him very well. We do trust each other quite a bit at this point which is a benefit of this work. Best of luck with your work with yours it is rewarding beyond words....

  • i dont understand....what is the point in just walking around?

  • @eingallsstella Hi, There are several exercises going on here from the Waterhole Rituals. I would encourage you to explore them further as they have become a irreplaceable part of my program for building bond and connection with all horses. Check out this video I have on here and maybe it will help to explain. "Highlights from a Liberty work Demo" : )

  • pedestals are a great tool. Kiowa loves to stand on hers. I don`t even have to be out there. I can look out my window and find Kiowa just standing there.

  • oh I'm sure Mercury will be out there standing on it if we get one, He's King of the Mountain...!

  • We'll have to get together when I return.

I'm due home on July 22'nd.

Enjoy the sunshine today...yahoo...I knew it would make its way at some point!

  • Wow, I love it!

I think Mercury thought it a great time to show off his trick horse ability (climbing the block). He sure is wonderful...you too! I love his playful nature. I'll have to make my way up to meet him soon.

  • Hi,

Are you in the Carolyn class? He's definitely playful and full of energy. I need to build him a pedestal. He wants so badly to get on the block and the woman who owns it gets mad at us when we play with it!

  • I'll bring you a pedestal as soon as return from Liz's place (July 22'nd I'm heading home). My husband builds great pedestals with the scrap wood he has from building the run-in shelters. He's made them for a few friends and they hold up well. You can see them in my video with Cruiser. Look under nesportpony here on youtube.

  • I can't wait to hear about Liz's workshop. I'm enjoying Carolyn's.
