  • While I liked this movie, I think it was the worst adaptation of a book ever. The movie was too rushed, the characters were not fleshed out as they were in the book.

One bit of irony is that the protagonist, the Cardinal, was played by a gay actor.

  • Really gay ceremony ... love it!

  • Who composed this "Laetamini in Domino"?

  • tutti sti froci chi li mantiene

  • I don't like how the altarboys are practically stampeding to the altar. What ever happened to a slow processional? XD lol

  • Deo gratias! Amen.

  • Anyone knows the name of the first song, or who composed it?

  • Those Accolytes are walking really FAST!

  • @CSSailor1863 Thought the same thing, they are walking at almost 1 meter/second!

  • If only Ordinations were like this nowadays

  • @jbosco08 they are in the FSSP.

  • Please, does anyone know the composer of that "Laetamini in Domino" which is sung in the beginning of the video?

  • Rome will prevail over secularism.

  • If only the Roman Catholic Church really did ordain men in this manner in our times. Praise be to FSSP for upholding the tradition! May Pope Benedict XVI allow this form of ordination to come back to the Catholic Church. It is rich in tradition, and personally, much more reverant!

  • Just beautiful! How could any man ask for a more beautiful ceremony? I would remember that moment the rest of my life.

  • people, dont get off topic with these works of the flesh-

its faith in jesus where we receive our salvation.

  • What song is being chanted when the procession commences?

  • @hamartolos1

The words are Ps. 32 (31):11

Laetamini in Domino, et exsultate justi: et gloriamini omnes recti corde.

Be glad in the Lord, and rejoice, ye just, and glory, all ye right of heart.

In nomine Domini. R. Amen.

  • Che film è? What film is it this?

  • where is the bishop's staff?

  • @iluvtatsi I'm not sure, but it might have been a detail that was overlooked.

  • @iluvtatsi This "ordination" was filmed in Rome, I believe, as such it was tradition that bishops would not use the crozier in Rome (I'm not sure about the rest of Italy), because this was/is the Pope's diocese.

  • The book "The Cardinal" is really one of my favourites. I never saw this film though...

  • why does the bishop have goves on hs hands

  • @iloveamerica007 In the traditional Roman Rite, a bishop always wears gloves when celebrating a Solemn Pontifical High Mass. His vestments when celebrating Solemn High Mass are as follows: Amice, Alb, Cincture, Stole, Dalmatic, Tunicle, Chasuble, buskins (a type of silk stockings), slippers (oddly enough called sandals), and alternates between a plain and jeweled miter. The gloves are removed at the Offertory of the Mass.

  • @iloveamerica007 I forgot one vestment that the bishop wears at Solemn Mass, as any priest would at any Mass. The Maniple, which is a strip of silk cloth that hangs from the left forearm. You don't see it at the beginning of the Mass, because the bishop does not put the maniple on until he ascends the altar after he has finished the prayers at the foot of the altar.

  • The rites of the Roman Rite ordination are correct. Still I fear, they used a really consecrated church building to re-enact. And this is not worthy in fundament. The Holy Mass, nor the Holy Priesthood, can be "re-enacted" for movies. Despite good intentions....

  • What's this film??

  • In 1963 they filmed this with the permission of the Abbot Don Nivardo Buttarazzi at the Abbey at Casamari, near Rome. Don Raffaele scaccia the Prior and others helped out. Notice even the wounded WWI soldiers in the front pew. A great moment in motion picture history.

  • @ioannessonnen Motion picture history maybe, but in a consecrated church, no films should be made about simulations or re-enactments of the most holy Sacraments. That is my opinion. It is nevertheless touching, but that is merely emotions. Canonically, this re-enactment should be forbidden. Let them videotape a real Ordination in the same immemorial rites of the Holy Roman Church.

  • The ceremonies are quite correct, there are a few rubrical errors in the movie, just sayin'

  • Actually, I stand corrected, I thought I saw something that was there, but actually wasn't, never mind lol.

  • This is one of the most authentic ordination videos every made.

  • @dacatholicbandorgan

The directors of the film hired a Benedictine monk to be the master of ceremonies in the acting. Hence why its so accurate.

So sad we've lost all this beautiful ceremony. The newer rites of ordination are a farce in comparison to this.

*dummschau*

übrigens echt beeindruckend was du alles weißt. woher hast du das alles

Scrivo in italiano, spero qualcuno capisca.

  • @bele92 La scena è tratta dal film " Il cardinale " del 1963

  • @84ulisse grazie mille per l'informazione :-)
