OMG - is it really 3 years ago when I first heard this...??? How time flies. Only seems like yesterday when I learned of his passing (anniversary tomorrow - 16th Dec).Still missing Dan a whole lot.
Wow. I can't believe I'm as old as I am and I first heard the song a few days ago at the home of friends - two sisters were singing it and harmonizing like angels. I had to search YouTube to hear it by the artist. I think this is now one of my favorite songs. So beautiful it gives me goose bumps
This is a wonderful one, glad i found it! Thanks. Spent last night listening to the "River of Souls" CD,and 2 of my faves from that have yet to be found on YT;"Holy Road" and "Serengeti Moon". Wish they were here. Peace,to all!
Dan does wonders for my heart and mind! Was having a Daniel evening and haven't heard this in a while. If I could have one wish? It is to go back to this very moment and be at the foot of that stage, and be in presence of watching a spectacular moment, that would last for 30 years!
Donna, I still got the duplicate rocker that he is sitting in!
Delightful to hear Dan's young, rich voice - so full of range and depth. Love his humour and interaction with the audience. Would love to have "What in the World" as a track on a CD...
"Song from Half Mountain" is always fantastic. I can't hear it enough. Never heard "What in the World" before and thought it was great. Based on the timeline, the "next album" he alludes to would have been Nether Lands. I wonder what happened. It's a shame to have kept this one a secret. Thanks for posting for all us grieving Dan Fans.
I think Dan's vocals on the live version far surpass the album. This is truly an AWESOME addition to the archives. No overdubs, no cleanups; just the voice of a captured angel!
Interesting that the opening chords of the second song sound like the same ones he uses in Wysteria.
One of the few artists better live than on record-saw this at the Greek Theatre in Berkeley and Paolo Soleri in Santa Fe, I cherish those memories..thanks
This is at age 23...I understand that genius often peaks at 23. That he was capable of music like this at that age is still as hard to believe as his making the passage so soon.
God I miss him. I still can't believe he is gone. Sometimes it seems that people with such talent will live forever. He was always on my "record player" in the 70's. He made me feel really good. His music was heartfelt, and filled with goodness. You could feel his emotion in the music.
This is what everyone loved about his solo shows. Just delicious guitar work. No one picks like him. And yes, nice to hear his young voice too. Classic Dan.
Thank you beggarsgame for posting such wonderful memories for us Dan Fans! I've never heard "What in the World" before. I think it's both incredible and sad at how much of Dan's music is being offered to us after his death. I appreciate what you've done with all of the music posts that you've put together. Just another way to keep Dan's music and his memory alive. Let it shine!
Thanks again so much. Truly a beloved song. How unique a talent, and how much fun for the crowd. I agree there is an incredible difference and feeling to hearing live. Remarkable that his perfect pitch is maintained outside the studio--Thanks again Donna, you're truly a captured angel on the lam...
Thanks so much for this!! I love when Dan talks with the audience!!! He was so young, so funny!! Definitely made me laugh and cry to think this supertalented guy was taken way too soon. Long live Dan's music and to all his devoted fans.
You put out another great post! The recording of this is awesome! Jack Daniels is not my favorite, but for you Dan, I would do a shot and I salute you. You are the best!
This is truly a gem - I just listened to Souvenirs, but to hear the song live really makes a difference. I can so much more feel the song today than at the time I first heard it. Truly beautiful - Thank you!
Hey D, I second the comment on the pics, brilliant idea. I love the Jack Daniels comments..Dan himself also did wonders for the heart and mind, for many many of us. You're a gem D...thanks.

Beautiful and poetic. Capturing, as Dan often does, the passage. Song From Half Mountain is one of Dan's underrated masterpieces.

Not that many photos of Dan and I thought it would be fitting (young/older Dan) to the song lyrics - Now my soul is young
In a moment it will be aging
