step 2: Set up a breeding tank with fresh water and good aeration devices.

step 3: Adjust the breeding tank's temperature to about 64 degrees F

step 4: Choose breeding goldfish in late spring. chose males that have white spots. from 6-7 pm you should put the males in the breeding tank.

step 5: wait for female to lay eggs and males to fertiliez eggs. leave the eggs in that tank and put the females and males in other tank.

well its kind of hard to notice the difference males tend to be slim as females are more plum like. even so it can be misleading depending how much the fish has been fed. the only time you can check if its male is when its ready to breed it will have breeding tubercles which will be on their gills. they are like pimples. but that normally shows during breeding season in late spring/ early summer. also the gold fish has to be mature so you wont tell by a young gold fish

The best you can do is provide some good living conditions to him. I dunno what to say, that sounds pretty horrible. But how can an injury like that come from a filter tube? Did it have a jagged or pointy side? Or the suction of the filter? I doubt if filter suction could do that... it may be due to another illness that his side is mangled.
