The book was originally an Arthur C Clarke short story called The Sentinal. The book came about on the bequest of Kubrick so it could easily become a screenplay.
There are 4 books, 2 of which are films. 2010 the sequel to 2001 is a lazy, sloppy no brainer film compared to Kubrick's work of genius.

Well, i must say that this is a very interesting video. Did you do the song? I like it. Funny enough, im watching this when im suppost to be doing a book report on 2001: A Space Odyssey. Overall very good.
