  • I watched both movies and the Real Ghostbusters before I saw this one. Then I saw it on tv on qubo and I honestly like it better than the other ones :)

  • fucking youtube why can`t I just "press enter" and the comment automatically posts...there`s the remove option so WADAHELL!?

  • i'm a fan of both Ghostbusters cartoons but i have to say this one is wayy cooler.

    i love Eddie Spenser! lol

  • You know full well that there were people that bought both sets of Ghostbusters figures and did their own crossovers. I would've if I could have found these in my area.

  • I would have wanted the car...

  • 0:19 - "PULL YOURSELF TOGETHER, YOU RUSTED WRECK!"

  • What year is this commercial?

I hope is before the real Ghostbusters.

This one was never been sale

    in the Philippines

  • why argue of who ripped off who and who's better when these toys are all the perfect scale for an epic cross over? :D

  • This was a pretty fun show !

  • Oh how wonderfully 80's

  • i had scared stiff and primevil and he indeed had a real cape. prolly have primevil somewhere, scared stiffs joints broke cuz i took him apart too much.

  • When the main selling point of an action figure is that it has a real cape, you know you have a really $hitty toy on your hands.

  • F*ck!!! A Real Cape !! MUST FIND ONE NOW !

  • disagree - the real fabric cape was a huge thing back then, when everything was plastic.

  • Oh, so it WAS original back then? That would make some sense then. Cuz I was really wondering why they would emphasize that feature.

  • it was new, yes. this commercial is almost 25 years old, man!

  • I never knew this cartoon had action figures.

  • "Prime Evil has a real cape!" wow I can't believe that was a selling feature.

  • @rubick79 the dude talking sounds sarcastic selling that "...has A.....REAL....CAAAPE!!!" ^_^

  • These were the kids that were picked on in school with the handmedown toys.

  • Actually this cartoon was based on a live Saturday morning show from 1975-1976. That's part of the reason why the cartoon based on the movie w/ Bill Murray and co. was called "the REAL Ghostbusters". Even though it came later.

  • i remember these toys coming out in 85'86' as there was no ghostbuster toys in production until 87' thats why the 'real'' was added

  • I didn't say this cartoon came out in the '70s, just the show it was based on. Indeed this cartoon originated in the '80s. Filmation sued Columbia in 1985, and as part of the settlement the cartoon based on the 1984 movie could not simply be called Ghostbusters. So that show became The Real Ghostbusters to directly distinguish it from the Filmation show.

  • whats with the freakin monkey?!

  • He was from a live-action show entitled "The Ghost Busters", from the 1970s, along with Jake and Eddie, Jr., the sons of the two original Ghost Busters.

  • Yeah, surprisingly I heard all the footage of that 70's show has been lost? Too bad. :(

  • nope, the original show is out on DVD... has been for years...

  • Cheapest action figure toy commercial I've seen :D

  • MUHAHAHAHAHa I remember to this day telling my mom, mom I want the lunch box of Ghostbusters. . . well. . . .I should've said The Real Ghostbusters. After that friends of mine at school made fun of the box .I got what I asked for per-say.LOL

  • LOL love that story. As a true Real Ghosbuster fan as a kid didn't care much for this show either and probably would have made fun of you as well but I did used to watch this show once in a while and I just downloaded the whole season and I plan to get really baked and watch it.

  • MUHAHAHAHAHAHA you would've had every right to to laugh, I would've done the same thing if it was a friend of mine. But enjoy the cartoon man I just bought the first season also it's good.Comes with alot of cool stuff.

  • I watched them both. It was on rival networks one after the other. :P then marshall bravestarr came on.

  • NOT the REAL Ghostbusters which are wayyyyyyn better!

  • For adults maybe, but when I was a kid I loved this show. Had much more crazy stuff in it that I thought was cool when I was little :D

  • Comment removed

  • Is that kid freakin posessed or what?!

  • booooooooooo THE REAL GHOSTBUSTERS ARE SO MUCH BETTER not these cheap ass's

  • AMEN!

  • @loyalROCKfan dude the REAL GHOSTBUSTERS is the most boing show in the world this ghostbusters is sooooo not

  • @IluvSonic09 shut your fucking face virgin boy go fuck yourself cus "THE REAL GHOSTBUSTERS ARE HERE TO STAY"

  • @loyalROCKfan a live action show in 70s was called ghostbusters THAT was the fathers of THIS ghostbusters so this IS the real ghostbusters hahahaha

  • Never owned any but the cartoon was great. Not as popular as the Real Ghostbusters but quite enjoyable and very charming with its distinct filmation style.

  • A REAL CAPE! WOW I ALLWAYS WANTED A REAL ONE!

    haha

  • No, this isn't Ghostbusters like you're thinkin'. There was a series already called Ghostbusters, which is why the cartoon of the film was The Real Ghostbusters, for legal reasons.

  • awesome commercial! I have them all, they're great. Ghost Command is an awesome playset.

  • This was the last Schaper toys.

  • I love Jessica Ray! She's sofa king (so fucking) hot if you ask me. Maybe I would go out with her with pretty red hair.

  • That cartoon was fun

  • So many people are saying this is a rip off of the Real Ghostbusters. The Real Ghostbusters and the movie it was based on were made AFTER Filmation's Ghostbusters.

  • Yes, thats why they had to change the name to "The REAL Ghostbusters" because Filmation still had the animation rights.

  • Actually, no. Columbia had secured all the rights, they just did that as a snub to Filmation.

  • So they could have called the series Ghostbusters as well if they wanted to?

Filmation must have been pissed when the REAL Ghostbusters totally obliterated their product out of the market though.

  • They could have, but they used that name essentially out of spite. As for Filmation, who knows...I doubt they had any grand ideas about the fate of their franchise. They were just trying to capitalize on the fact that legally they were able to produce something with the same name as a hugely popular movie of the time. Yeah, Filmation made the first anything with the name "Ghostbusters," but it wasn't until the movie that anyone cared.

  • Was the Filmation version released before the first movie?

I'd have thought they'd still be riding high on their He-Man franchise at the time.

One thing they had that the REAL Ghostbusters never had though was an arch villian, TRG had a different enemy each episode. I'm suprised they didn't bring in Walter Peck or s aimilar character who kept trying to shut them down Etc. Thats the usual route for a reacurring enemy.

  • In the 70s Filmation produced a live-action kids show called Ghost Busters. In 1984 that was discovered during the production of the movie. Rights to the name were secured from Filmation, but Filmation kept the rights to use the name as well. I've read a quote from the guy who was then running Filmation who said that what they should have asked for was the right to produce the animated spinoffs of the movie; instead, they decided to produce their own spinoff of the previous live-action show.

  • If i remember it right Walter Peck actually showed up in one of the episodes. But i can´t remember in which one.

  • Yeah, I just read that on Wikipedia, I suprised they didn't have him as a more reacurring chatacter though.

I don't recall the Mayor ever making an appearence either, despite him being a pretty large character in both movies.

  • And what about Louis Tully? Did he also get his cameo? He is my favourite character in the movies.

  • Yeah, he became quite a major character in the later, more "cartoony" Real Ghostbusters (when it was renamed "Slimer and The Real Ghostbusters").

He was effectivly the fifth Ghostbuster in them.

  • Ah yes, now i know what you mean with more cartoony. Looks like they changed to another cheaper animation studio. But this wasn´t shown on German TV, so i didn´t know that. I only know the more "realistic" drawn episodes. Reminds me on the last season of "Captain N - The Game Master", which also didn´t make it to Germany.

  • wow they actually made action figures for this cartoon? i remember the cartoon, but not the toys.. i guess because the series was so short lived

  • I kinda remember that logo

  • lol at the kid at 0:20 "pull yourself together you rusty wreck".

  • "The show is also known as The Original Ghost Busters because when Columbia Pictures released the film Ghostbusters in 1984 it neglected the fact that Filmation had already produced a live-action comedy series with that same name in 1975. Filmation sued Columbia in 1985, (...)"

    From Wikipedia

  • Sorry, but you have it backwards. The Real Ghostbusters (and the movies) are an excellent imitation of Ghost Busters, the original live action show...from the 60's/70's I think?.

The Filmation Ghostbusters cartoon, the one these toys are from, is a more faithful adaption of the original.

  • Yea, but the The Real Ghostbusters smash these series, it just wasn't as creative as the newer one, that's why it prevailed over that series

  • @dukeofcrydee

There was a previous Ghostbuster show on TV. I saw the VHS video cover, but the video store didn't have the tape.

Still I think the 'Real Ghostbusters' or newer Ghostbusters movies were a lot better.

  • @uselessman73 Yeah, in the mid 70s there was a live-action TV show called "The Ghost Busters". It was the first property w/ the name. The Filmation Ghostbusters cartoon was based on it. The 80's movie and The Real Ghostbusters were all Dan Aykroyd's idea. (although Ramis, and maybe others, helped w/ the screenplay)

  • @dukeofcrydee absolutely right... as a matter of fact, Filmation's cartoon was sort of a spin off. Jake and Eddie from the cartoon were the sons of the original ghostbusters from the 70's series. I remember in the first episode, they had to rescue their dads (Spencer and Kong).

  • @dukeofcrydee

akroyd didn't rip off the original show on purpose-he was trying to do a high tech version of old movies like "the ghost breakers" which had I think Bob Hope in it-he probably wasn't aware of the 70's show untill after he wrote the screenplay. still filmation let them use the name but then made this cartoon to cash in on the popluarity of the movies. too bad because if people weren't always comparing the two this would have been remembered as a very cool show.

  • @dukeofcrydee Actually, Dan Aykroyd wrote the script with no knowledge of there being any previous thing called Ghostbusters. Columbia WAS aware though. But Aykroyd, the guy who came up with the concept? No clue. So the Ghostbusters everyone is familiar with with Peter, Egon, Winston and Ray, really has no ties to the Filmation GBs aside from the name. In fact, the live action original Ghostbusters show has very little to do with the Filmation follow-up.

  • @Doop3r Right, at the time I didn't realize Dan Aykroyd had no idea about the original TV show. In old interviews he does mention old comedies w/ ghosts as inspiration, but never points to the original TV show. Odd to me, but it is what it is.

As for your last point, the live action original does have a lot to do with the Filmation follow-up. The Filmation cartoon is directly based off of that TV show. The characters are the sons of the live-action duo.

  • wow, I completely forgot about this. Even though it is a rip off of the Real Ghostbusters I just remembered how much fun these cartoons were.

  • This Ghost-Busters where taken from the Original 1975 live action show, with Tracy the GORILLA!!!

  • @ForthReich perhaps. but these ghost busters existed around the 70's so...real ghostbusters are the imitators

  • @Cobracatcommander yes true so vary true

  • @ForthReich actually... it's columbia's Ghostbusters that are the imitation. Filmation's The Ghost Busters from the mid 70s was there first, and this 'next generation' cartoon is from the mid 80s, and is a hell of a lot better than the copy-cat garbage from Columbia

  • @ForthReich Actually The Real Ghostbusters isn't even Dan Akroy'ds, Ivan Reitmans, or any of there oriinal ideas. They all based it off the 70s show. If you watch it and this cartoon.. you can see the similarities.

    1. The name alone, Ghostbusters

    2. The Backbacks

    3. The Ghost dematerializer

The Real Ghostbusters was totally lifted from the 70s Ghostbusters , there was nothing original about Akroyd's. Yeah it was good and funnier with updated humor, but certainly not original.

  • @ForthReich ironicly they had the name first. X3 so they are kinda of like the 'true' ghostbusters.

  • @ForthReich Dude, you know by now that's not t rue.

  • wow! a real cape! it is so fun that it's spooky!!

    its spooky.... for real...

  • Oh em GEE! A real, actual cape! I'm so excited I"m gonna cum!

  • that kid has a freeeeeaaaaakkkyyyyy voice! :[

    don't mess with him!!

  • OMG! A real caape!

  • A REAL CAPE!!!!

  • I still own all the toys! :) I loved this series when i was a kid :)

  • I still have those toys, they are quite hard to find nowadays.

  • this one sucks

    I like the real ghostbusters

  • This is interesting. Filmation was the first to come up with "Ghostbusters" back in 1974, then Columbia copied the idea for their films in 1985.

  • more like 1975, and then 1984.

  • How did this alternate Ghostbusters series even exist?

    And WOW, a real cape!

  • i used to have all the action figures.. and a vhs tape... my neighbour stole all my action figures and my video vanished.. no all i am left with is these youtube videos that torment me...

  • That's why eBay exists!

  • ebay exists because my neighbour stole my toys?? 'THATS SPOOKY!"

  • They look cool! Very nicely done and molded...

  • When I was a kid I allways wanted a Filmation ghostbuster toy but unlike the real ghostbusters and Masters of the universe it wasnt very popular so they were all gone before I was able to get one.

But they were on my Xmass list when I was 7 or 8 I remember lol good times I tell you.

  • i never even had a toy like this. i wish i did have one. if anyone knows where i can get them email me on youtube. take care.

  • Prime Evil has a REAL cape? I thought it was fake!

All I have is an Eddie figure with no accessories :(

But I DO have an animation cell!

  • Is that William Schallert as the announcer?

    Lex

  • They certainly sailed close to the wind with the "magic backpack and ghost gun".

  • ROFLOLMAO
