hahaha.. east timor... what dya get now?? independence?????? hell no! nothing!!! soon the aussie and portugal will leave u.. they won't care with the poorest country like u... and u'll ask to go back to indonesia... it's just a matter of time
It was a united nations mandate, backed by the United States of America and China dumbarse, Indonesia has about as much chance of holding east timor again as the bali bombers do of getting resurected. Militant freak. Yah and after the way the indo backed militias acted burning down communal buildings and raping and torturing civilians I'm sure they'll just be begging to be let back into the fold.
@NuxingFutz Well,in 1999 Portugal should have sent forces immediatly to stop these"gangs" from murdering hundreads of persons...it was a shame for me as Portuguese to see people beeing killed with"catanas" and no one was there to save them!!!
Absolutely; the only real success story on the ground in Vietnam was the M113 Gavin ACAVs; even the ARVN in M113s could defeat the NVA on foot; our mistake was trying to clone them into Huey 'copter foot sloggers from fire bases with short-range tube howitzers; the NVA superior on foot encroached on the ARVN foot-sloggers and then smashed them with long-range M46 130mm guns; result was loss of South Vietnam due to military incompetence
Most of the vehicles were rotated through Vietnam. Being a very simple design, they are relatively easy to repair, as its basically an armoured box chassis, just about everything is bolted to it. Damage repair mostly meant some welding and bolt off bolt on of replacement components (and unfortunately, maybe a hose out inside). Most of the APCs I drove listed battle damage from Vietnam in their servicing log. An M113 I drove in Townsville had slightly a bowed in left side from mine damage.
Lots of countries are going back to thier old tracks --- Australia, the Netherlands, Canada, Israel... These guys are some of the toughest, smartest armed forces in the world.
Now, just compare the US military's "stay-the-course" policy of weapons procurement/employment, with the losses of US units in combat, and the difference is clear!
I LOVE INDONESIA !!!!!!!!!
