There were three penalties on that play.

1) Hossa's dive from Neidermayer's bump,

2) Van Allen getting tripped,

3) Madden hooking the HELL out of Hossa.

Had Hossa not blatantly dove earlier, I'm willing to believe the ref wouldn't have turned a blind eye to Madden's hook.

@notredale2 Remember there were no penalties in game 7 of the ECF with less than 10 minutes to go pre-lockout. Lot's of fantastic memories of this victory.....it never gets old. Maybe next year the Devils will get back.

@redwingz1998 You know what's funny ... I watch these classic games and no matter what team it is, where it was, or when it was from the 80's to the 2000's; they are hooking, tackling, clawing, rabbit punching, sitting on each other, etc etc. Yet, the games were always exciting with plenty of chances and lots of goals. The NHL missed the mark on increasing scoring ... something I don't think they even needed to do in the first place.

Why did he go down? Foolish because if the puck didn't get shot into his glove (lucky) than he would have been in no position for a rebound. Good teaching tool or video for over playing the sitaution and over committing though.

@TheGoalieGuru Considering the mammoth mistake he made, the follow-up mistake that Niedermayer made, the craziness of the situation, and the number of people (wearing both red and white), I think it was either the best move or the only move. I am not doubting your skills but if you watch the video, after the Hossa shot, there wasn't a white sweater to be found. So, if you are a guru, then you've worked with great goalies and you know that they see EVERYTHING!
