  • So do you happen to know anything about the new Orion 68RE auto? Compared to this how would you rate it?

I happen to like the the newer 6.7L but I herd the DPF can be a real pain in wasting fuel for regeneration mode.

  • Mine took about 5.5qts of fluid if I remember correctly. I think the 4x4 take about 7qts of fluid due to them having a deeper pan. Glad to see it work out for you!

  • it took 7 quarts?

  • is this similar to the 45re? i only have 3rd unless i drop it to D1 or D2 but even then i still only have 2nd, no 1st or 4th gear. tranny shop told me 1200 for them to replace the solenoid

  • @coltncall The tranny shop you went too is smoking crack! It takes me about 1hr to replace these solenoids. Most tranny shops shouldn't charge more than $250 to replace both of these solenoids.

  • How do I adjust the bands?

  • I have a 2-3 weird shuttle shift I wonder if thus would fix it? 03 dodge diesel 150k miles? Any ideas?

  • @Danscraigslist65 All 48re tranny's shift like this. I would consider this normal. I would try adjusting your bands.

  • @Danscraigslist65 thanks again my 03 3500 still working glad you posted this video

  • @Danscraigslist65 It's not "normal". A new governor pressure solenoid and transducer will fix your shuttle shifting issues ... that's what they are mainly replaced for. I'd do a little research on cumminsforum(dot)com as there are better alternatives (solenoids) if the work is not done under warranty.

  • I was wondering about the transmission temperature sensor and if this needs to be changed at the same time? Is it up there in the same area ?? My tran templight is flashing and its kicking out of OD. I heard it could be related to the gov press solenoid also. Thanks for any info.

  • @gwot09 Sounds like you got some internal issues with the transmission. My temp light never came on. Sounds like something overheated in the tranny. I would recommend taking it to a trans shop and having it looked at.

  • Actually if you pause at 41sec, you want to drill into the area just above and to the right of where he is pointing. It's the corner "square"

  • BTW the better drain plug location would be to the right of the one pointed out in the video. This is just below the reverse band and has plenty of clearance.

  • Very helpful video. This helped me visualize what I needed to do for my 07 3500. Two helpful tips. First at the 40 second mark, you point to where you will be drilling for your drain plug. That particular location is just below the trans filter and a taller drain plug may contact the filter and prevent seating the pan later (Ask me how I know...) Secondly, the Borg Warner solenoid can be incorrectly installed. The bracket which holds it in place must be next to the body of the solenoid.

  • mine works fine all summer long but when the cold weather come around it wont drop down into first. When i come to a stop it stays in 2nd gear once i get going it shifts the rest normally. come to a stop and it starts off in 2nd again. It wont even go into 1st manually. Can you help.

  • @thefelts2 This video will fix your problem. You have a bad transducer on the tranny. Replace both of these parts as mentioned in this video. You can either buy these parts from your local tranny shop, ebay, or a local tranny supplier like transtar.

  • i have a 05 3500 and after an hour on the hwy my tow/haul light will flash and it acts like it wants to jump out of overdrive. will replacing this part help mine you think? thanks for your time sir

  • @mrUSARMY96 This sounds more of an internal issue with the tranny. When tow/haul light starts to flash this means there is something internally wrong with the tranny. Maybe, you have a bad lockup solenoid for the overdrive. I would have someone scan the tranny for codes. Best thing is to take the truck to a tranny shop and have they look at it, and scan the truck for fault codes.

  • Great great video....thank you sir :)

  • @skinnerMTB Your Welcome, glad I could help you out! I'd rather be replacing transmissions solenoids in a Dodge than replacing head gaskets on my F250 6.0 POS.

  • @civicboy123 I'm a Ford guy, but I wouldn't take a 6.0 anyday, unless its tuned and has everything done to it, as for Dodge, I wouldn't touch a gas or diesel Dodge with the garbage auto transmission, too much failure behind that thing for my liking

  • Hell yeah thanks for the vid i have an 06 cummins i watched ur vid and followed the steps mine also works great thanks to you many thanks keep up the good work

  • Thanks alot for this video. Do you know if there's a big difference in my 2001 Durango r/t 4wd?

  • thanks i watched your video and fixed my 03 dodge 3500 worked great you saved me alot

  • @brandonou812 I glad it worked out for you. I just sold this POS Dodge 2 weeks ago. Dash started to crack, and I said time to go. The Cummins engine was great, but the rest of the truck was a POS.

  • Hello i have a Jeep grand cherokee 5.9 with the 46re, i think its pretty much the same tranny as the 47 and 48 re, do you have any idea what could cause the transmission to shudder meaning like rumble when it shifts from 3rd to OD ? It only does it during the shift and not when im in 3rd or od itself.. It also get worse the harder the throttle that is applied, and its not even noticable when you let off the throttle right as it shifts, or with very little throttle.

  • @1ownjoo2 This problem you see more on Ford's than you do on Dodges from what your describing. What your describing is Torque Converter Shutter. This usually happens when the fluid is old and dirty and when the fluid looses it lubricating properties. I would suggest that you drop the pan and do a fluid and filter change, and see if this doesn't help with your Torque Conver Shutter.

  • @civicboy123

Well the torque converter shudder i thought was a problem that happend all the time as you drive in OD.. mine only does it right when it shifts to OD then its quiet and smooth.. and when it does it i can feal it in the steering wheel and hear it throughout the vehicle.. it makes a rumble for a second did a fluid and filter change 9 months ago, didnt see anything in the pan. the normal gunk on the magnet and a few small metal shards in the pan but thats to be expected

  • Hey man good video. Do you know if the gov. sol. and sensor on a 46re trans. ( 99 ram) is similar to the 48re?

  • @jcopelin09 Sould be the same solenoids from 96-99 on the 46re, 47re, 48re. 00+ are the same.

  • @civicboy123

I had a mechanic test drive it, and he told me i have a very firm shift on 2nd to 3rd, and 3rd to OD he was a little concerned about telling me thats a sign of tranny wear.. He said to keep an eye on it but not to spend money on it.. it feals like i should before it gets expensive

I have put about 4k miles on it since i bought it and it hasnt gotten worse. However for one day it was completely gone i mean nothing... then it came back the next day i dunno... its wierd

  • lame part about 47-48re, the convertor hold more then half the fluid. to get a good oil change you need to flush the tranny, which requires about 20 liter of fluid.

  • @jmanwild I would never flush a tranny period. It'll do more harm than good to a tranny. This 48RE tranny in this truck is a POS!

  • @civicboy123 how does flushing all the old burnt oil and contamination cause harm in a transmission!? the correct thing to do is the change the fluid properly but not everyone does that.

burnt clutch material can do severe damage to gears and vave bodys pretty easy.

  • @civicboy123

I've been thinking about changing the parts you did in this video, but im afraid to even take the pan off again, last time i did i discoverd one bolt was stripped from the previous owner and i got lucky that i t was a over hanging ledge where i could actually bolt and nut it... im afraid to take the thing off now cause i dunno if more are striped or close to it

  • How did you disconnect the pressure sensor? I pushed the clip back but the thing wouldn't budge. I ended up replacing just the solenoid and gave up on the sensor for fear of accidently breaking it. I still have the same problem and found some good sized chunks of metal in my oil pan.

    What do you recommend?

  • i had a weird surge issue happening on mine (47re) when it was shifting into 2nd gear.....i did a band adjustment on it & i couldn't believe how quickly & smoothly it shifts now......

  • was your check engine light on before solenoid replcement?

  • @lhsowdal No the check engine light wasn't on at all. Sometimes the tranny would start out in second gear, and at other times it would shift fine out of first gear. I would order and replace your solenoids if your experiencing a similar problem to mine.

  • I have a problem shifting from 1st to 2nd. Did you have the same problem before you replaced the solenoids? 2003 5.9l cummins

  • Loved it !!!!!! A++++++

  • I have an 06 Ram 2500 CTD 4x4 with the 48RE, just turned 98,000 miles. I bought it last year with 83,000 miles. When she's cold (I mean real cold, 20 degrees F or less outside) 1 to 2 shift is hesitant. Otherwise ok. Same thing? Great vid by the way!

  • Where can u buy these parts from?

  • Nice video untill you got trans fluid on the camera lens lol.I don't think anyone is going to think you are a redneck for putting a drain plug in the pan.I just would have put the hole in it after the pan was off is all. Over all great job.
