Vocals have a natural occurence that can niether be predicted nor controlled 100%. In saying this, you should always get test levels of the vocalist performing his/her vocals prior to actual recording (do not listen Record every thing that is said in fron of the Mic). This give you an opportunity to see at what level the input should be set. NOTE: Peaking freduces something that is known as DYNAMICS (in lamen terms this what determine how clear your vocalist recording will be)
if you learn how to locate them (the impefections) you can isolate & reduce them! Remember the proces of mixing is not raising the volume of audio but increasing the clarity of what was recorded. At advise of some of my clients i will begin a channel devoted heavily to vocal editing. Most sounds that are used in the music prorams are already digitally mastered and only need some tweaking slightly basedon the other instruments used as well as its focus in the beats.
Oddly, most instructional dudes don't inform people that presets and plugins are not the cure to great sounding vocals. There are quite the things that come in to play. One, you must have some sense of where particular impurities show up on the eq reference decibel chart for you specific room(they are all unique). when you find those it is just the beginning of correcting the natural occuring errors. 1st, EQ your vocals to reduce the imperfections(then the plugins help)
@Mr123451986 just go down with the threshold by 2db step,when you see it isn't making much better just stop and see 1db difference.then you got your perfect spot! If you don't get your results you have to record again, with another microphone!it's very important to get less "ssh" on the action of record!Or the problem is if you are compression before the desser, maybe you are overcompression the vocal!For that,do automation volume and then make the compression,it's hard work,but betters results.
Why do you build in cubase 5 and dump everything to nuendo 4? Just for 192Khz or is there more to it than that. What do you mean by "dump" it to N4? Im curious too because i own both C5 and N4. I find that some stuff sound better in N4 for recording but also alot of bugs in N4. C5 is stable and rock solid all the time, but something just doesn't sound right with C5 vs N4. what are you thoughts?

@SexyStaci21 Its not as hard as it looks. It just takes years of experience and talent to do it WELL. The only way to get good, just like anything else, is constant learning and devoted time to build experience.
@darrenguitar I have 8gb of RAM, 750GB of Memory and a quad-core engine. I'm I still going too slow? BTW Ive also tried audition and it does the same thing. I'm not using an interface because My mic works fine with the bootleg audio program I got for free.
@Roklan2000 fuck i know this is like 7 months later but i just seen it now. i had the same issue with latency and it was i didnt have my computer on max power out put. it was on sleep mode and energy save.....if you still gettin it try that.
@Eisbude Put background music in on the higher and lower frequencys. And put the vocals (or whatever you want to be the main thing) in the middle frequencys.
@Eisbude he says, "the vocals need to sit in the middle, not on the end. the music needs to sit on the end as far as the bass and the high pitch instruments (high hats)". That doesn't really make sense, but what he is trying to say is that the vocals should be the main focus in the mix, sitting in the middle with space between the low end and the high end so it does not sound muddy and each EQ Band doesnt over power the other bands.... :D
@Dymond200 do I need a multiband eq, or is it better eqing each instrument for itself? Another problem is when mixing vocal a little bit right and a little bit left. whats now the right direction for mixing instruments? I think that the instruments now have to position more to the middle in stereopanning.?????thanks so far
@Eisbude how do u mean do i need a multiband eq? You need to EQ every instrument so that it fits into the mix with its own space compared to the other instruments. There is no need to multiband compress on the vocals really, a normal compressor would do as good as a job. If the vocals are a little left and right then that is fine, just make sure they don't overpower or are overpowered by the rest of the mix.. the other instruments should fit underneath the vox, pan them which ever way u like :D

@kibzboy1000 sometimes you need more cpu power, this video was made for someone that was having memory issues. if you run the plugins up front and record the audio, then you don't need those plugins anymore after the audio has been recorded. now you can turn them off save your processing power.
but you didnt put it on the front end...you put it in the playback channel insert...
you have to insert the plugins on the INPUT CHANNELS on the far left side of the mixer for them to cut to tape so to say... the grey input channels show audio coming in, this is the right place to put effects you want to track to tape...
what you did, record with plugins on in the playback track while recording and then turn them off at playback wont do anything to the audio data that is recorded!!!
Hey, Im new with using this Program.... And I was tryna figure out how do I put use a MP3 and then how do I get the Mic to work in Cubase... Case right now when I import a track and try to listen to it, I cant hear anything... As far as Vocals go I cant get nothing working for me...
a problem im having is that my vocals will have peeks like if a say something with a T or something and yes i have a pop filter but its still very loud and harsh on the ears... when i try to compress it the whole track is compressed... do u have any advice?

And what about deesser, lil eq + stereo studio delay, reverb, exciter, and, sic, denoiser? Its all necessary if you want people attention. You could show how it is on you speech, but you didn't. So, how that tut could be serious? And everybody will take this point, I promise.

Why is the vid so quiet, ironic considering it's a vid about compression. The SSL is good though, I have this in my studio along with the Sonnox Oxford plugs

how come you put the first 2 plugins on the input or as u call the front end ? how come when u gonna process vocals u dont jus send to bus ? sorry im jus confused ....

@kibzboy1000 sometimes you need more cpu power, this video was made for someone that was having memory issues. if you run the plugins up front and record the audio, then you don't need those plugins anymore after the audio has been recorded. now you can turn them off save your processing power.

but you didnt put it on the front end...you put it in the playback channel insert...
you have to insert the plugins on the INPUT CHANNELS on the far left side of the mixer for them to cut to tape so to say... the grey input channels show audio coming in, this is the right place to put effects you want to track to tape...
what you did, record with plugins on in the playback track while recording and then turn them off at playback wont do anything to the audio data that is recorded!!!

Hey, Im new with using this Program.... And I was tryna figure out how do I put use a MP3 and then how do I get the Mic to work in Cubase... Case right now when I import a track and try to listen to it, I cant hear anything... As far as Vocals go I cant get nothing working for me...

a problem im having is that my vocals will have peeks like if a say something with a T or something and yes i have a pop filter but its still very loud and harsh on the ears... when i try to compress it the whole track is compressed... do u have any advice?

hmm, how can you assign 1 track to multiple groups? In protools it works easy but i didnt find it in cubase5..

...do you have to eq the vocals...the reason i ask is...i eq ed my voice...and i didnt like the sound...i removed the 80 hi-pass and my voice was thin sounding...the blue de esser is really good...i like the way my voice sounds without eq...i do compress 4:1 sometimes 8:1... i use the rode nt 1a mic...what mic do you use?

And what about deesser, lil eq + stereo studio delay, reverb, exciter, and, sic, denoiser? Its all necessary if you want people attention. You could show how it is on you speech, but you didn't. So, how that tut could be serious? And everybody will take this point, I promise.

How are you using SSL 4000 in cubase 5 when it doesn't support direct x? I didn't see you use a direct x wrapper either..just curious.
