  • our world has lost a diamond, with his death...

Rory was (is) one of my favourite guitar genious..

    RIP

  • Absolute class thanks for posting this gem.

  • One of the best blues Guitarists Ever Rock on Rory your sadly missed

  • 4 dislikes what the fuck,(r.i.p.-rory).....

  • OMG I just Love this and love seeing him here having a ball. Go Rory Go!!

  • It just doesn't get any better than this.

  • This guy is in beast mode.

  • one of my favourites...unbeatable

  • Just makes me grin from ear to ear, and has been for 25 years+. I hope for at least another 30 or 40 ;) Rory Gallagher in his place of work..priceless.

  • Takes a consummate bluesmen to know how to blast the Blues all to hell. Massively grateful this was caught on tape! Rory on!!

  • is it just me or do irish guitarists not only have th soul in there playing but power to just make you speechless and keep watching more......rory and gary are THE best guitarists R.I.P

  • Gotta feel sorry for the backing band, he's going steadily faster the whole way through until he gets to the last couple of mins when he takes off altogether - they were chasing after him the all the way.

  • @dermotwalker I think you'll find they were pretty used to it. Hardly worth feeling sorry for one of the most solid rhythm sections of their day.

  • @artorwar Jesus, relax mate. "I think you'll find" everyone here knows that. It's just figure of speech? It doesn't always mean you literally feel sorry...

  • man that is awesome

  • Makes me smile and my heart warm EVERY time :D

  • fantastic Rory Gallagher...so great

  • Rory and Michael Schenker, two guitar gods that made 70's rock well worthwhile.

  • Pay attention you all............This is how it's done. It aint perfect but it's not supposed to be..............rough and ready.

  • Check out how far away from the mike when he lets out the initial scream.

  • The 4 people who disliked this need a good fucking kick in the shin.

  • @ehowie

The 4 stooopid motherfuckers you mean hehehe RORY FOR EVER !!!!

  • Every time I see this I feel as though I need a shower. It's fucking filthy, man! This is a truly stunning live display of REAL ROCK N' ROLL virtuosity. From the 3:00 mark on Angus Young has absolutely nothing on Rory Gallagher when it comes to guitar god stage antics. It doesn't get old. It blows my mind and melts my face every time I watch it.

  • Every time i hear this song, i feel like i am listening to it for the first time.

  • Absolute fuckin' diamond! Why isn't this god still alive!

  • always looks as if hes enjoying himself

  • full power rock from THE greatest live guitarist that ever lived.

  • @bluegreenius Amen to that I could not agree more!

  • can someone tab this solo please!!?

  • @PetrosLiakopoulos just play it!

blues is for improvisation, for expressing yourself in a spontanious way :)

do it like rory, play always a "different" solo, 'caused trough improvisation!

    rock on dude :)

  • AHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!! I love the start to this song it grabs you by the balls and doesn't let up.

  • I still feel so sad about his physical death. Nevertheless, he still lives on his unique music, right?

  • god his concerts were loud... caught him live in 1980 in Ipswich.. ears were ring for ages afterwards...

  • Rory... the God of pentatonic guitar scale...

    I like his technique

  • @ale9164

God of EARS if put correctly.

  • @samansun

Ok, I agree.. what did you mean for.. EARS?

  • @ale9164

Ears that can make the distinction between dull cliches and creative playing.

  • @samansun oh sure, he is out of all cliches... but I don't know if his technique was better than than Vai's or Petrucci's, actually. I mean:

Pentatonic scale was synonymous of creativity in the 70's when Gallagher used to make his works: jimi hendrix used it but modified.. but now there are so many different ways to modify a guitar sound that you can only say that he was creative at his times, not now.

but he was out of cliches, definitely

  • @ale9164 The Rory Gallagher Appreciation Society for Idiots, Part One. Everybody 'modified' the pentatonic scale you foreskin. And you can only ever say of someone who isn't around anymore, that they were creative at the time! He's been cited as an influence by Queen's Brian May - to whom he gave the then teenager, a tutorial on his sound which now resonates in every note he plays - and U2's The Edge, to name but a few.

  • @dermotwalker sorry, but I don't understand... you are too sofisticated to me.

  • @ale9164 If you say so...

  • @ale9164 The Rory Gallagher Appreciation Society for Idiots, Part Two. Over the course of his career, Gallagher was first and foremost a jazzer which is the single most important thing that is never said about him. His father was an alcoholic traditional musician and the influences of trad can be heard in his playing, esp on 'Out On The Western Plain' where he tuned the guitar to Uileann pipe settings.

Suffice to say there are many reasons why you 'pentatonic' comments are out of tune...

  • @dermotwalker actually the Uilleann pipe is tuned to an open D with sharps and flats. Out on the Western Plain is in the classic blues tuning DADGAD, used on the original recording of the song by Leadbelly

  • @ANVILCLOUDNM Quite right but Gallagher plays the song in an Open-D tuning unlike the Leadbelly version.

  • @dermotwalker Well dadgad is basically open-d just with the 3rd string being a normal G instead of a G flat. That's the only distinction, but if you watch him play it live, he does tune his guitar into DADGAD, when he strums the open chord it's not a standard D

  • @ANVILCLOUDNM Thought Leadbelly was a baritone standard tuning (B-E-A-D-F#-b) on a 12-string acoustic?

  • @dermotwalker Maybe, I'm not too sure, but I do know for a fact that Gallagher plays the song in DADGAD, that was pretty much the main point I was trying to make.

  • @ANVILCLOUDNM Interesting. We might both be right yet - I'm gonna look into it a little bit more. Thanks.

  • to much

  • im proud to say i played is signature guitar!

  • Awesome clip of Rory at his very best. Hard to believe that this was the opening song of his set. Most people don't achieve this level of after 90 minutes on stage. I was lucky enough to have seen him live a couple of times back in the early 80's. I still have the guitar pick I caught at the end of the set. I later met him and he signed my denim jacket and tour book. He was one of the nicest, most genuine rock musicians I've ever met.

4 people obviously have no ears or brain.

  • @hrothgar64 The opener?? Jesus I didn't know that. Scorchio baby.

  • four minutes of high- powered adrenaline/guiness-fuelled rock from the genius Rory Gallagher.

  • AAA h Rory G.such a Badddddd man on that 6-string thing.Another one of the legendary originals for axemen and sadly alas taken too soon.Thank Rory and God for making sure he layed down plenty of wax before he passed away.R.I.P. my brethren Scotsman.

  • @valhalladead76 Thought he was Irish?

  • rory's got to be one of the best live performers ever

  • man THAT'S what it's all about !!

  • RIP Rory - named my son after him. saw him at Toad's Place in New Haven in '70s, and he was incendiary and brilliant, playing this same beat-up Strat; met and interviewed him after ... probably had 12 of his albums, but "Photo Finish" was the best and this leadoff track smokes

  • @kingskid4real check that, was 80s at Toad's

  • guitar god mode: on

  • Ass kicker

    Rory rocks forever

  • Rock on Rory a legend of legends we played some serious air guitar the night you died one album over and over again and we were boxed to the ears it was bright when i left that shed that morning.

  • Clapton was good with the Bluesbreakers, then the Yardbirds, then the Cream, then the Blind Faith but later he's music has died. He became a lousy bar-musician.

  • Claton was good with the Bluesbreakers, then yardbirds, then Cream, then the Blind Faith but fater he's music has died. He became a lousy bar-musician.

  • Wtf is he taking this energy ??!

  • Love the smile at 1:23 he know's he's in the zone!

  • "How does it feel to be the greatest guitarist in the world? I don't

know, go ask Rory Gallagher." ---Jimi Hendrix quote from Rolling Stone

    magazine interview.

  • @Badpenny13 didn't Hendrix give him that Strat, or maybe another one?

  • @kingskid4real Hi, Think Rory got his Strat from his Irish Show Band Days.

  • @kingskid4real No this famous guitar is the first imported ever in Irland....He plaeis with it form 18 years old

  • @OnlyMeRoGa thanks man

    Thank you Rory!

  • Rory forever!!!

  • best song ever.

  • the hands and fingers of god...sadly enough he needed them back in 1995..........

  • Lessons how a true guitar hero should look like and move.

  • 0:00 ignore this comment, the link is for my personel use only .

  • I have yet to come across any other artist on the tube with nearly as many fantastic videos as Rory. Its a great way to remind myself how lucky I was to have seen him live in his prime.

  • This has GOT TO BE required viewing for anyone who wants to play guitar. Take it where ya want after that. R.I.P. Rory

  • It's my favorite version. Rythm guys are the best of the many versions I've watched. Love Rory.

  • the great thing about music you dont have to understand another language to be able to appreciate the sound of a guitar, it transcends language and rory is a great interpreter

  • Holy shit! WTF JUST HAPPENED? I feel like I was hanging on electrical wall socket for the last few minutes. That was awesome. Replay!

  • Vevo better not take any of Rory's vid's

I don't want to see him shred a guitar so much and later notice the sign Hayley Williams and B.o.B. - Airplanes below the screen

    That would be very wrong

  • Rory and that old Strat were one.Totally awesome

  • more balls than a charging rhino on speed!!! just THE GREATEST.

  • I am just so jealus of all the people who had the chance to go and see Rory in a concert even for once in their life :)). I just can't get it in my mind that I will never have the chance to see him even for once. Many thanks to all of you people who upload videos of him and we can see him and enjoy him. The man was just authentic. They don't make them like that anymore... as matter of fact.. he was unique back at his time and ever before and after...
