Wow, this article is laced with bad information. Goldfish are coldwater, stunting is cruel and selfish, fish bowls are disgusting and harm fish. They also left out the fact that a properly cared for goldfish lives 25 - 40 years.
I once had a very cruel fantail goldfish that would attack the comets but he never killed them we named him Tim though he did mature and stop attacking the others
Well done for glossing over stunting /: If you want your fish's insides to continue to grow while it's outsides don't, resulting in a painful, slow death, go ahead and pop 'em in a tiny tank. They'll stay small. And die. In pain.
Yeah, fish bowl and other round tanks is very bad for fishes, because is a multiple echoes creating in bowl when fish is moving. A fish listen this echoes due her special sonic acceptor named as middle line. It's work like a sonar. And this multiple echoes keeps a fish in a permanent stress. Stress is very negative for fishes health.
Remember: don't use a bowl or round tank for fishes.
FISH BOWLS ARE VERY CRUEL PEOPLE DONT KNOW THAT THEY ARE VERY BAD FOR THEM GET THE BIGGEST TANK YOU CAN AFFORD AND YOU WILL N JOY EM FOR YEARS TO COME THANKS
I love goldfish! I have 4 of them in a 55 gallon tank. I have a video of them on my channel if you want to check it out. They are sooo cute and have tons more personality than tropicals.
What a crappy explination. He says the fish get stunted in small aquariums and then shows one in a bowl. The tanks he shows are all overstocked and most fish are already stunted....way to go! -_-
Yay, I have a pure white goldfish too! But she has normal fins, not fancy ones. she used to have a red-organge "band" near her tail but it disappeared. I heard this can happen but I don't know why? She seems perfectly healthy.
Dear video maker: You may want to point out that by 'stunting', you mean that their outsides stop growing but their internal organs continue, meaning they suffer a slow, painful death from things like suffocation. May make your point better.
Im thinking of picking up a species of Goldfish, lionhead maybe
whats the problem with a good sized bowl? I'm not talking a small 2 gallon job
but maybe a 6 gallon bowl, with gravel filtration? this seems ok in my mind. But i havent owned a fish since i was young. I have a old 20 gallon tank in storage, would need a few new items, but that would maybe be the best?
@bottle2lip Fancy goldies can grow up to and over eight inches long. They have inefficient digestive systems, meaning they produce loads of toxic ammonia and thus need large areas of water for it to be diluted (before the filter gets rid of it). You should ideally overfilter them - have a filter designed for a larger tank - to be on the safe side. Larger tanks are also easier to maintain, believe it or not.
30+ gallons for ONE fancy goldie. Believe me, they *do* need it to be happy.
Just because the fish have so far survived in a tiny bowl doesn't mean they are happy. Firstly goldfish are notorious amongst fish for producing huge amounts of waste which produces large amounts of ammonia, which then produces huge amounts of nitrites both of which are likely to kill your fish.
@dazzlediva5 Second doing a full or close to full water change weekly on the bowl is highly stressful for your fish and will result in them living a much shorter lifespan (btw goldfish aren't supposed to live 3-4 years as many people think, they will live to 20+ if taken care of properly)
Don't listen to this video, goldfish should never be kept in a bowl and that whole "goldfish only grow to the size of the tank" thing has never been true, the fish just die young because of being stunted
@nkdeck07 why shouldnt a goldfish be kept in a bowl? Common households with children keep small pet goldfishes in a bowl... i see nothing wrong with this! Now, huge fish like those on this vid should be kept in an aqaurium (tank) but tinyyyyy fish don't need all that space! My daughter has 4 goldfish that all live in a decent-sized fish bowl.. she cleans the bowl once a week.. fish seem happy to me!
Thirdly your fish are not going to grow to the size of their container, that whole idea is a myth and actually just results in stunted goldfish that will die sooner. Even Petco which is notorious for giving bad advice about fish recommends 30+ gallons for just one goldfish.
I remember when I was a kid I used to catch these little bastards and put them in a blender.looked like an orange tornado. but it was a pain in the ass to wipe the scales off the blender. still. it was fun =/
never keep a regular gf in a tropical tank, only species such as ranchu, ryukin (correct me if I'm wrong)... can be kept at a slighty higher temperature.
Higher temperature will denature the goldfish enzymes and stuff up its metabollic rate.
sure for a little bit- just get a side thermometer and keep tabs on the temperature of the water. How big is your tank? Matter of fact message me if you want.
I am going to get a nice gold fish aquarium, its octagon shaped, it is 60 centimeters wide, and about 30 centimeters tall, I am going to keep it on a low platform so that it can be seen from a top view most of the time, like a pond. I just prefer looking at fish from the top rather than the side. I am going to absolutely over stuff it with plants and have plants growing out of the tank so that it is beautiful and natural. I will keep, 2 Black Moore 1 Black Ranchu 1 Blue Oranda 3 Red Cap, etc.
so by what i see, it is normal for goldfish to open and close their mouth. some websites said that is because they're gasping for air or something, oxygen. i was just worried. as long as they're not opening and closing their mouths crazy like and stuff, which they're not, just normal i guess. i haven't had a goldfish in years, but my mom decided to get a few, so i was watching them and just wondering.
Depends upon the strain of fish, I have bought some from a breeder at 4 months with comparatively large Wens (the growth is called a Wen) but have seen fish not grow through until 1 year old. It's just a waiting process unfortunately. It will grow whatever colour the fishes head is, so if the head is white you'll have a white wen. The Orandas with red are known as 'Red Cap Oranda's. :)
The white fish is called a 'Comet' (that breed has very long fins, the standard calls for the tailfin being as long as the body). For the most part these fish can grow to be 12inches (not including tailfin) so it's rarely advised to keep them in tanks their entire life. Comets are primarily pond fish. In most places they are very common, apparently some shops in america sell them as feeder fish, so I can imagine if you live there you'll find some easily. Most are orange, that one probably faded.
i want to put goldfish in my tropical fish tank. my question is can the eat tropical fish food flakes? and will they kill tropical fish with diseases and is it safe
It's very much advised that you don't put goldfish with tropical fish. The ideal temp for goldfish is 22 degrees celcius, and going over 28 can be dangerous. Because the goldfish grow so large, they may kill other fish, and some are deliacte and easily killed. Tropical flakes are also not good for goldifsh, don't fit their dietary requirements very well at all. To be honest, it is best to not add goldfish to tropical tanks, if you want both types to live happily and healthily.
Ummm if i could i would like to ask you if another fish was to bite the tale off another fish, like a piece of it, will the fishes tale grow back??plzz i would like to know

i had a couple with some nasty fin rot my pearlscale's tail was almost gone, been about 4 weeks since treatment and its about halfway grown back and inactive as it ever was lol
No. I've had many goldfishes and some of them have lost partially their tail due to some incidents and after three years they still haven't grown back.
WOW the song is perfect! I hadn't had a gold fish for years then i won one at the fair it died :( i am getting two the lionhead and the black moor goldfish also a sucker fish thats freshwater to help it!
no it's not fin rot, ive seen fin rot before, but i have continuesd to change water until i find a cure. The pet shop has no idea what i should do either. They only flick against things a few times a day, and the streaks are barely noticable.

Yes 15 gallons is big enough for a goldfish.
If your up for it, I'd get 1, see how it goes for a week or so, and get 1 more to go with it.
In my experience, they enjoy the company of the other goldfish.
Also watch you algea eaters closely.
They have a bad tendency of getting older and liking the slime coat on your goldfish and killing them.
Comet goldfish are the most common and cheap for that matter. They are also most messy.
I'd get two of something else. And they don't ha
