Lada Engines 1600-1700ccm for Rally pruposes are up to about 180bhp.

You need to do some major modifications to the cylinderhead, larger valves, welding, dig everything out of the corridors, new camshaft, usually used with weber carburettor and electronic ignition, throttle valve per cylinder and so on.

Then you need to balance the crankshaft and fit in new piston rods and pistons. Dry sump lubrication is optional but advised for motor sport use.

@balinthanula: I wish the standard Lada engines would have more power. Not 82 hp, but something like 120 hp. And also a bigger amount of torque. If i am not mistaken, the standard Niva's have something like 135 Nm. Lada should do a great job by turning it up to something like 180 Nm. Standard!! Then it would be an even better car than it is already.

@Kirovets7011 Yeah it is really bad that a stock 1.6l engine has only 82hp, but it is really easy to make it better, you can do a lot with the cylinderhead and you can remove it while the engine is mounted in the car.

You need to dig out the channels and remove sharp edges, maybe with anoter camshaft (around 200-300$) you can easylie make your desired 120hp, i do not know the belonging torque but you need hp to drive fast .. the torque of 135nm is enough for going into the mud, so no problem =)
