Not Only Was Malcolm One Of The Finest Of All Time, a Lovely Man, and a Gentleman, yOU Bought a Lot Of Pleasure To The World God Bless You Malcolm [RIP]
@grimfandango2006 Very difficult to argue with that team. Except that I'd have Gavaskar for Greenidge and Greg Chappell for Lara. Otherwise, it's as good as any team selection I've seen by a YouTuber :-)
@grimfandango2006 It's certainly a very good looking team you've put up. Players that'll draw in the spectators by their sheer charm - Warne, Akram, Imran Khan, Smokin Joe!
My counter post-War XI would be (picking up players you left out):-
he was a great bowler! its realy unfortunate that he died so young, just 41 years of age. he would have been a great asset to cricket. he was smart, and very quick. y do the good have to die first?
Its very strange. When the West indies were at their fearsome peak. I guess from 1978-1991 ish. Even though Australia and the rest of the cricketing nations were being thrashed by them. The respect we had for them was genuine. My greatest memories was watching Michael Holding, and Andy Roberts steam in. To talk about Viv, well I dont have a enough time lol Oh what truely great memories.
I am Australian and my all time fast bowler is Deniis Lillee. But as a kid I saw malcom bowel many times. A true legend of the game. It still haunts me seeing his open casket at his funeral. What a waste. Can someone please tell me what Malcom died from?
he died from cancer of the colon, he was just 41 !
RIP Maco! I am not even from that generation of cricket watchers but having seen his old clips and being a fast bowling enthusiast got to say the cricket world lost a Godly talent who could have helped support the tough and dying art of fast bowling!
hey what happened 2 u west indians?com'on u mother marys of west indies, give birth 2 da jesuses of pace bowling, otherwise our soul might not rest in peace.
I just want to set straight a couple of things here.
1) Pace has NOTHING to do with side-on or front-on action. It is more about your rhythm and co-ordiantion during run-up and the speed through which your trunk contracts pulling your shoulders through.
2) Swing is also INDEPENDENT of the front on/side on action. It is purely with wrist position during delivery and how loose or how tightly you hold the seam.
And last but not the least, Marshall was a great bowler. Enjoy the video!
Explosive Marshall, I have yet to see someone today bowl a deadly fast accurate bouncer like him. Gone are those days when he use to trounce batsmen left right and center. Exiting stuff.
The side-on action gave him swing and all sorts of movement and that was the key to his success. People get obsessed with pace, but what club cricketers forget is that at this level you won't trouble a top order batsman just by being fast. Accuracy, swing, variation, movement of the seam and use of the bouncer separate the Malcolm Marshals from the Devon Malcolm's!
Lovely to see such a superb bowler bowl with a perfect action. It's unfortunate to see how other bowlers e.g. Muralitharan, have made a farce of cricket by chucking the ball and getting away with it.
By your definition McGrath is fast and inaccurate. Whereas Flintoff is slow and accurate. Action is purely determined by the bowler's bio-mechanics unique to his physique. I guess you got your impression watching natural side-on/mixed action bowlers who were forced to switch to a chest-on action to protect their spine.
Point is, let's show some respect to the great man and try not to patronizingly second guess how he could have been better/different.
wrong way around usually side-on actions are slower and more accurate while chest-on are faster yet less accurate eg mccgrath and pollock (side-on)to Flintoff (chest-on) obviously im not counting those with slingy actions such as Jeff Thomson and Shoaib Akhtar with the Side-on actions.
Lillee,Trueman,Larwood, all side-on with classical actions all bowled fast. You can bowl fast side on or chest on. The benefit of being side on is that it helps you move the ball away more easily.
its always the case, the juniors look upto seniors and praise them, had Akram been there before Marshal, then it would have been the other way around. The two of them were the best there was in terms of variety, one right arm, one left arm. Wish they both had played in the same team,

He still had much to give to the game.

Exactly.
Pace comes from the hip and your ability to whip your hip as you bowl.
This helps your arms to come around faster thus creating more pace.
This can be done from both the front on and side on bowling positions.
The smoother and more controlled you are able to achieve this action the faster you bowl.
You'll also be able to keep your pace up even after you've bowled for an entire hour.

Wht are you talking about Marshall wasn't side on? Are you blind?
He was chest on but could still bowl perfect away swing because his wrist action was perfect.

actually its the other way round. Wasim idiolised Marshall. so much so that even his run up was squarish in the beginning of his career.
bvindh 3 years ago
Must be. That front on action is more accurate but less pace. But accuracy is far more important as we all know.
sonofthedestroyer 3 years ago
@sonofthedestroyer, kindly define "less pace" in the context of Malcolm Marshall.
bvindh 3 years ago
He would have been even faster with a sideon action. But less accurate.
