  • You have this author to whom you can ask an array of interesting questions (given the nature of his books) and this interviewer seems to be restricted to probing him about his ethnicity (a typically american obsession) - Gladwell appears to find his questions banal!

  • @doctorHOUSE That's because the interview was conducted for a documentary series discussing lineage, ethnicity and ancestry. Mr. Gladwell understands the context and is good natured about it.

  • @doctorHOUSE

    the show is about ancestry?

  • imagine a life where you have no idea whether or not the people you deal with every day actually accept you for who you are. Are they merely tolerating you, because they are legally required to. Are they actively working against you. IT MAKES YOU PARANOID. Race counts not because we want it to, but because it informs every part of our existence. Its like having a backpack you can't take off when everyone else doesn't have that baggage.

  • @vespahistory , I stopped caring about what other people think about me. Know thy self and be true to thy self. If someone doesn't like you for some reason, it is their reason, their problem, their burden. Let it weigh them down, not yourself.

  • Why are Americans (especially those of African origin) totally obsessed with race? Why is Louis looking for problems where there aren't any?

  • @browneyedgirl39 Americans of African origin are obsessed by it, because they are reminded of it every day by white Americans.
