  • Excellent Madison show Video! Keep 'em coming! Walked my Merlins many time but never made it up there. My brother dated the owner's daughter for a bit. Many bands played there. U2, the police, and more! Dang wish I would have gone up there!

  • These recordings started me on the journey of my life back in 1987-1992 as a brand new "Adult" (age 17-22).

  • I was at this, but I remember getting there late and missing the first part of the concert. This is an awesome listen. I didn't know this existed. Catapult was the first song I heard, and I sang the chorus for about a month afterwards.

I grew up in Madison and my first concert was U2 at Merlin's in '81. I was 13 and my older cousin would help me get in.

Thank you a million times for the upload.

  • My brother and I used to throw Mike Stipe out of TK Harty's Saloon for underage. He turned out well for a delinquent.

  • Dnload the audio from this clip at speedyconversion doht cohm.

  • Damn, this version is fast.

  • Great performance of a favorite song.

Murmur = Best album of the 80s - period

  • @bjorn2run totally agree...murmur my fav imprinted on my brain forever!

  • i couldn't agree more with carbon4me they the exact same thought for me

    class act all the way

  • I saw the '85 show in Trask on the unc Wilmington campus. They had little picture books with that monkey in it. I think I still have it.

  • This is a great show! I have a replacements show from the same place around the same time too.

  • My best friend and I played the heck out of Murmur the Summer of our Sophmore year of high school... When Catapult played, we would sorta sing a long to the chorus. Instead of shouting "Catapult"... we would yell "Got a boat!"

Yeah, we were quite the little comics. lol Good memories.

Oh! one other thing... I used to have a REM t-shirt that had the picture of the monkey and parrot on the bicycle. Oh man.. I wore that shirt with pride.

  • That T-Shirt was from the 1985 tour I think. Fables was..is a great album too. I'm glad you like the video. Murmur=awesome!

  • You are correct... it was from the Fables tour. It had the tour dates and all on the back. I wore it until it had holes it it.

To clarify, I was pretty young, and I never saw REM until the Green tour in 89.

Pretty sure I have a Monster tour shirt around here somewhere too.. hehe..

  • Great Clip. Huge memories from this time of my life. By chance, are you from Wisconsin? I was a student at St. Norberts college in the early 80's and used to listen to a band called "Chamera Depot" (spelling). Have you by chance heard of them? Thanks for the clip.

  • You are very welcome. No i am not from Wisconsin and I haven't heard of that group but it would be very intresting to hear them.

  • Thank you for sharing. This song gained my immediate interest with R.E.M. in 1982 and it remains my favorite release by this outstanding group.

    A R.E.M. fan in California

  • You are very welcome:) This is a great song.
