  • Chiming guitars, sweet vocal harmonies, strong rhythm: the quintessence of the Byrds!

  • now i understand what this song is all about..and its good to know i'm not the only one..

  • What year is this?

  • @drumdust

    1965

  • @drumdust "I'll Feel a Whole Lot Better" is a song by the Los Angeles folk rock band The Byrds that was first released in June 1965 on the B-side of the band's second single, "All I Really Want to Do".[1] It was also included on The Byrds' debut album, Mr. Tambourine Man.[1] Written by Gene Clark, who also sings the lead vocal, "I'll Feel a Whole Lot Better" features some of The Byrds' early musical trademarks, including Jim McGuinn's jangling 12-string Rickenbacker guitar;

  • Charly García likes this video

  • 1 dislike. I wonder how Justin Bieber stumbled across this!??!

  • I'll feel a whole better after I listened to this little gem!

  • like this

  • A few members of the wrecking crew along w/Roger McGuinn only played on The Byrds 1st single Mr.Tambourine Man and I Knew i'd Want You w/McGuinn,Crosby and Gene Clark on vocals..The Byrds do all the playing on the rest of the 1st lp and everything they did after that until The Notorious Byrds Bros.lp where Crosby and Michael Clarke Left and the lp had to be finished w/studio guys.Van Dyke parks added organ to 5d and Clarence White did some playing on the Younger Than Yesterday lp.

  • You should all look intothe role that The Wrecking Crew played in these formative years of the Byrds. Check out the Wrecking Crew film and see who it was that played on our favorite songs. No lie, no bullshit, check it out.

  • @dtongaAs Chris Hillman said " Anyone who listens can tell its us "......................I certainly can....on the Mr Tambourine Man album its quite obviously NOT the wrecking crew......the Byrds were perfectly capable of playing on their records......if you listen to the huge amount of session tapes available no other people are mentioned apart from the 2 tracks 66buff mentions..........................lets put that old myth to rest

  • Funny enough, this main riff played reminds me a little like a faster version of John Lennon's Christmas song

  • May I recommend the book 'A Pop Revolution, the transatlantic music scene 1965 to 1969' by the invisible man. The author is a big fan of this track.

  • Charly Garcia performed a great version of this song !!!

  • @javiloba say no more

  • When that 12 string Rickenbacker chimes in the sound just becomes "Wider",decompresses and just moves upward; Too Cool! Hmm, must have been a '60's Flashback. Ha Ha!

  • I remember watching their performance to this song with girls dancing in cages. LOL

  • I'm gonna tell you sons of a bitchs something. This is one of the best songs every written. Man, what a song! And if you don't agree with me, then come over to my house and I'll whip your ass for you. Ha! No, I love this song.

  • @taypar11 You tell 'em goddammit!

  • Fabulous track with Gene Clark on lead -- loved this band. RIP Gene Clark and Mike Clarke!

  • roger mcguinn's best guitar solo ever!!! no doubt.....classic! it screams 1965!

  • when i was a kid in northern CA in the early '60s it was Beatles vs. Beach Boys, but comparisons are useless. all these groups kicked ass.

  • brings some great memories loved the 60's

  • saddly but not all the byrds are living from the classical line-up Gene Clark is dead and also Michael Clarke and from the latest line-up Clarence White is dead and also Skip Battin is dead but it will be nice that Roger Mcguinn , David Crosby and Chris Hillman will reunite for gigs

  • ahhhh my sweet innocent youth is sneaking up my spine to my brain.

    F A B U L O U S tune! Love you always, Byrds.

  • Kills me that you never hear THIS on the f'ing radio!

  • follow all the members' work and you will be quite pleased

  • actually remember this album cover at a grocery store thats long gone

  • George plays if i needed someone the same way guitar. Greats Bands...

  • MegaKegHead in the house!

  • It's interesting how the simple addition of the word "probably" can turn a good song into a fucking great one!

  • This works for me...great song and group..RWB

  • this song is just bad-ass all around! great vocals, lyrics, bass, and guitar! and it only makes sense that it's by one of the greatest groups. (aside from the beatles) ^_^

  • I can listen to this all day!

  • the perfect band Roger on lead and dave on back up wow what a band

  • This is all McGuinn with that beautiful 12 string Rickenbacker.

  • @pbrucpaul this gitar is the best but not cheap!

  • @pbrucpaul McGuinn may have played the 12-string but all the credit should go to Gene Clark for writing a great song.

  • I paid a fortune for this album in Greenwich Village years ago, mint condition vinyl.

  • Chris Hillman was as good a Bass player as anybody! The harmony and that 12 string Rickenbacker guitar is just great! I just got some 3 foot speakers that really bring this out! The '60's definitely had Style!

  • Oh no doubt.I agree with everything you just said.I was unfourtanatley born in 1987 and missed the golden age of music, being the 60s.

  • @pbrucpaul Yeah,Chris Hillman did an awesome job on bass...didn't he?

  • Top shelf..

  • /watch?v=pY86DBYSCOE hermosa version de Charly garcia

  • The Beatles were proud of all the songs by the Byrds...when the Beatles arrived in the U.S....one reporter ask..."What is your favorite American group"....John said...the Byrds!...

  • @exponet24 hermosa version de charly /watch?v=pY86DBYSCOE

  • @exponet24 The Beatles wish they could sing and play as well as the Byrds. Not even in the same class

  • @exponet24 Paul McCartney also remarked that the Beatles' favourite American group was 'Sophie Tucker'. Never trust anything the Beatles said in press conferences.

  • @lexo30 The Beatles, The Byrds and Dylan had a profound effect on each other. If you look (and listen) hard enough you'll hear them say it about each other.

  • @theseakingsmusic I'm not denying that the Byrds influenced the Beatles - Harrison's 'If I Needed Someone' is basically a Byrds rip-off. And Dylan influenced everyone. But at another time, their favourite group was the Beach Boys, and at another time again their favourite group was the Mothers of Invention. When the Beatles first invaded America in 1964, the Byrds were an unsigned folk trio playing in coffee houses. The Beatles changed their collective mind a lot, that's all.

  • @exponet24 I think John's favorite American band were The Byrds and Paul's were The Beach Boys.

  • this is perfection to my ears.

  • sounds a lot like 'needles and pins', which is a good thing

  • @Wittttte107 ill feel a whole lot byrdsier thats a little joke the searchers didnt use 12 string on needles and pins just 2 6 string guitars but they used all manner of 12 sstrings later listen to dont you by bobby vee

  • Gene Clark........!

  • Love the 12-string Rickenbacker!

  • @Highland804 listen to cant explain by love its not a rickenbacker but it sounds good

  • @spacepatrolman It does sound a little similar, and I do remember the song...having been around when Love was popular, especially in LA.

  • @Highland804 that whole first love album sounds like hey joe ken forsii was the bass in the surfaris before love the surfaris may have done the first version of hey joe before the leaves and the byrds bryan maclean was a road manager in the byrds before he was in love

  • Great song ~ Idiot Poster!

  • alll idiiots that disallow embedding should not be on youtube! pathetic!

  • A Beloved Rickenbacker from Santa Ana California

    Great song

    Love the Twelve String.

  • @TL250Rider Amen!!!!! Preach on 12 string Ric's are beautiful to my ears

  • utter class, far ahead of the rest, rip gene,

  • These lyrics are great because they are so anti-pop song. Instead of the typical "baby, give me one more chance" or "baby, come back", it's "I'll probably feel a whole lot better when you're gone." Brilliant!

  • This is one of my favourite songs! Its just so amazing! The lyrics, the guitar.. everything!

  • One of the most grossly-underrated songs of Summer '65 !!!

  • @andrez03 Absolutely.This song is a gem!The instrumental break is killer!!!

  • Not only the beatles pals. The Zombies, the byrds, the kinks ♥ ... and more ... fcking good years.

  • my favorite gene clark tune!!! rodger out does himself with the most memorable 360-12 rick solo ever on this guitar. the song just uplifts your soul listening to it. their work helps define the mid 60s along with the beatles, and beach boys. I refer to them as the three B's. beatles, beach boys, and byrds!!!

  • listen to the byrds. !!!

    american music.

  • This song makes me feel a whole lot better.

  • @darling67 it works!

  • FANTASTIC-YOU KNOW PETTY LOVES THIS!

  • happy birthday david crosby

  • @darling67 As I was listening to this, Clarke's voice sounds slightly like Lennon's at some points, but Crosby an McCartney are nowhere near.

  • @TAFKASYFY Crosby was a damn good harmony singer

  • @darling67 Cool

  • charly le hizo una version... sera porque es una de las mas lindas canciones de los 60'? ... quien sabe... jajajaj... the byrds, junto con the kinks, the who y pretty things fueron lo no beatle mas lindo de la epoca

  • @amin1950 In context to the Beatles and Stones and the British invasion bands. The Byrds were Americas Beatles do you not think?

  • @withnielandi Yes they were. Of course the Beatles were big fans of the Byrds.

  • @darling67 I agree, the Byrds are a very underrated band and they get this bang on so would be hard to top it but the Beatles would have given them a run for there money.

  • @amin1950 Tom Petty loved the Byrds. Roger was like Tom Petty's idol

  • Best pop song ever? If not, right up there. Never gets old and I have been listening to it for 45 years, but who's counting...

  • @maida1982a 32 years for me and never tire of it. The solo is the best. I actually wrote a song similar to this but not as good. It sort of approaches it though

  • love this song!

  • This is the greatest Byrds song ever.

    Thank you

  • Love this song! Whether it's The Byrds or Tom Petty, when the Rickenbacker 12-string kicks in, still gives me feel-good chills!

  • I hadn't heard this song in years... then it came on the Muzak at the supermarket... must have been Oldies Night... and I thought... this is really a terrific song!

  • Just a great relatively unknown song. Tommy Petty's version is not all that great though. Tom when you admire someone like Del or Gene you got to do better or leave it alone. Oh went your gone .. Smithereens have a song on Esp for You that uses the the chime and jangle guitar.

  • @11xzxzxz Petty did it like exactly the same way.

  • The guitar! The harmonies! The chord changes! Pure! Classic!

  • I dedicate this to my ex husband. It's so true!! The magic medicine.

  • la mejor version es la de charly garcia me siento mucho mejor!!!

  • I finally saw Roger McGuinn perform this groove at DC's The 9:30 Club and RECORDED IT....

but I touched a wrong button and lost the rest of the song!! (So I had to resort to photos). Otherwise, I would've uploaded it. Hey, I was caught up in the groove, so sue me. Still, it was a pleasure to see one of my childhood heroes tearing up that stage with this song. Roger McGuinn, You The MAN!

  • Oh, I totally agree. :)

  • Bloody hell!

Sound's as fresh today as when it was recorded. 40+ years ago!

    Think about that.

How many songs re-corded today will sound that fresh in 2050?

A true sign of artistic genius that is fast leaving this world.

  • Not bad actually

  • Best song I have heard by the Byrds! Love the Guitar in this song.

  • @rerunjas Rickenbacker 12-string. Sounds great, doesn't it?

  • what a hell of a fine song

  • Love the 12-string! Tom Petty does a pretty good job with this song, too.

  • @Highland804 I love Tom Petty's version too, all of FULL MOON FEVER.

  • @drumdust Agreed. Full Moon Fever is a classic.

Shamefully I only knew Tom Petty's version untill finding this on youtube.

    Now a Byrd's fan.

  • The beatles would have been proud of this

  • what would have? they were in the same day you know.

  • No shit! As in if they had composed this song, Harrison loved the byrds sound. Listen to if I needed someone

  • @withnielandi Yeah!

  • I think it's better than The Beatles!

  • @Mistertbones No, I think it's just as good.

  • @sapphiretaurus agreed : )

  • @withnielandi I don't know about proud...maybe a little jealous.
