@drumdust "I'll Feel a Whole Lot Better" is a song by the Los Angeles folk rock band The Byrds that was first released in June 1965 on the B-side of the band's second single, "All I Really Want to Do".[1] It was also included on The Byrds' debut album, Mr. Tambourine Man.[1] Written by Gene Clark, who also sings the lead vocal, "I'll Feel a Whole Lot Better" features some of The Byrds' early musical trademarks, including Jim McGuinn's jangling 12-string Rickenbacker guitar;
A few members of the wrecking crew along w/Roger McGuinn only played on The Byrds 1st single Mr.Tambourine Man and I Knew i'd Want You w/McGuinn,Crosby and Gene Clark on vocals..The Byrds do all the playing on the rest of the 1st lp and everything they did after that until The Notorious Byrds Bros.lp where Crosby and Michael Clarke Left and the lp had to be finished w/studio guys.Van Dyke parks added organ to 5d and Clarence White did some playing on the Younger Than Yesterday lp.
You should all look intothe role that The Wrecking Crew played in these formative years of the Byrds. Check out the Wrecking Crew film and see who it was that played on our favorite songs. No lie, no bullshit, check it out.
@dtongaAs Chris Hillman said " Anyone who listens can tell its us "......................I certainly can....on the Mr Tambourine Man album its quite obviously NOT the wrecking crew......the Byrds were perfectly capable of playing on their records......if you listen to the huge amount of session tapes available no other people are mentioned apart from the 2 tracks 66buff mentions..........................lets put that old myth to rest

When that 12 string Rickenbacker chimes in the sound just becomes "Wider",decompresses and just moves upward; Too Cool! Hmm, must have been a '60's Flashback. Ha Ha!

this song is just bad-ass all around! great vocals, lyrics, bass, and guitar! and it only makes sense that it's by one of the greatest groups. (aside from the beatles) ^_^
Chris Hillman was as good a Bass player as anybody! The harmony and that 12 string Rickenbacker guitar is just great! I just got some 3 foot speakers that really bring this out! The '60's definitely had Style!
The Beatles were proud of all the songs by the Byrds...when the Beatles arrived in the U.S....one reporter ask..."What is your favorite American group"....John said...the Byrds!...
@exponet24 Paul McCartney also remarked that the Beatles' favourite American group was 'Sophie Tucker'. Never trust anything the Beatles said in press conferences.
@lexo30 The Beatles, The Byrds and Dylan had a profound effect on each other. If you look (and listen) hard enough you'll hear them say it about each other.
@theseakingsmusic I'm not denying that the Byrds influenced the Beatles - Harrison's 'If I Needed Someone' is basically a Byrds rip-off. And Dylan influenced everyone. But at another time, their favourite group was the Beach Boys, and at another time again their favourite group was the Mothers of Invention. When the Beatles first invaded America in 1964, the Byrds were an unsigned folk trio playing in coffee houses. The Beatles changed their collective mind a lot, that's all.
@Wittttte107 ill feel a whole lot byrdsier thats a little joke the searchers didnt use 12 string on needles and pins just 2 6 string guitars but they used all manner of 12 sstrings later listen to dont you by bobby vee
@Highland804 that whole first love album sounds like hey joe ken forsii was the bass in the surfaris before love the surfaris may have done the first version of hey joe before the leaves and the byrds bryan maclean was a road manager in the byrds before he was in love
These lyrics are great because they are so anti-pop song. Instead of the typical "baby, give me one more chance" or "baby, come back", it's "I'll probably feel a whole lot better when you're gone." Brilliant!

Just a great relatively unknown song. Tommy Petty's version is not all that great though. Tom when you admire someone like Del or Gene you got to do better or leave it alone. Oh went your gone .. Smithereens have a song on Esp for You that uses the the chime and jangle guitar.
