It is very hard to breed most exotic pets in captivity—one of the many tell-tale signs that even experts don't understand what these animals need in order to thrive. To meet the demands of those who keep exotic animals as pets, dealers often have to take the animals from their native lands. This disrupts the ecosystems from which they are stolen, and can disrupt the ecosystems to which they are taken if they escape or are set loose.
if you care for the welfare of the animal you leave it in its natural habitat! Since the vast majority of people who keep exotic animals cannot meet their needs, the animals may be caged, chained, or even beaten into submission.coz if they were there would be no need for such confinements,a walk on a leash through the park won't cut it.Sometimes, people will have an animal's teeth or claws removed, so that the animal cannot harm the owner even when he does struggle.what abt medical care???
Owning a parrot or turtle is one thing. But how many big cat owners can honestly afford to feed and house a tiger properly? An adult tiger needs a well constricted habitat costing thousands and will eat between 30-50 lbs. of meat each day. Not to mention the dangers associated with living with these animals! It takes a very educated and wealthy person to properly keep exotic animals for personal purposes. Your "right" to keep them is not as important as my "right" to demand proper care of them.
@themiddleman009 You have been listening to the animal rights folks, who want no one to have animals, period. Good habitats aren't that hard to build. An adult tiger only needs 10-12 pounds of food/day. Training is available to help people get started. I believe very strongly in animal welfare. But as we are essentially animals ourselves and share our world and our fate with the animals, I believe that (responsibly) owning and using animals is a fundamental right.
love the video, and as an exotic animal caregiver, the news media lends too much creedence to the garbage spewed by the HSUS, PETA, and their mouthpiece Jack Hanna. I for one would like to see his credentials. ho many cages has he cleaned? How many animals has he owned?
I suspect that if someone wants to commit themselves to responsible ownership that they can do it. What states have the fewest restrictions. Does someone publish orientation materials so people can see what they are getting into and how to do it with care. My friend's ocelot was like a big kitty cat. Note there was an incident recently in Zanesville Ohio that may make Ohio very restrictive. I know California already is.
Why don't any of you people realize that an animal is NOT safe in the wild?
Not from disease, starvation OR POACHERS. Any animal that is well taken care of will be happy regardless of where it lives. Wild animals lead a a very stressful life and are not necessarily happier by our definitions. Nevermind the fact that captive born exotics WILL FUCKING DIE IN THE WILD because they are semi domestic now.
Let me paint a picture for anyone who supports these legislations: Imagine having a dog. He adores you. You have given him food, a home and a loving family. All of a sudden the government bans anyone from owning a dog, because of a recent event where one sick, twisted fiend constantly beat his puppy for fun! DOES THAT SEEM FAIR? Seriously, I find it amazing that people don't see that! I understand these are wild animals, but if they are truly happy with their owners, isn't that all that matters?
Shulamitefire you're a complete dumbass! First off, if we release all domesticated animals into the wild, they will all FUCKING DIE!!!! They rely on human beings for food and shelter. That's the whole definition of domestication! Secondly, where the fuck did you grow up? People own pets for the sake of love. Unfortunately, there are a few people so incredibly sick and devoid of any human decency, that they get a kick from making poor helpless animals suffer! You're amazingly stupid!
Exotic animals belong in the wild, not in a backyard it just not fair for the animal. also when his instincts take over and attack the owner the owner all crying saying 'why I loved him'.
Exotics belong in the wild. Stop being selfish. I purpose never to have any animal or bird in a cage or pen or on a line. That also includes all domestic animals. They suffer far more than we know & are more important than amusement or to show off. If you want to love more consider doing something more for the starving children, the homeless, etc.,etc.
@missmonita777 hey man stop being a stubborn kid about this it is true and many people are having their hearts broken because their animals are being taken away from and i myself appreciate this video because it is sad to loving pet owners having their pets taken away from them so stop being stubborn
i dont think the accidents with exotic pets are "Very" rare... but what i think is that it doesnt matter what animal do you have, it can be a rhino to a tiger; if you feed it, take care of, and love it, in the most of the cases or always, they will love you.
It's great that you love your exotics pets, but i think those tigers, chimpanzees and bobcats are way happier in the wild where they belong. And if you owners love them so much, you should set them free and protect them from human interaction and poaching etc
Please people, if you have an exotic pet that gets too big or rips your face off, it is a wild animal and you must be understanding and care for it the rest of it's life... If you can't continue, then why did you buy the pet in the first place (sigh, the stupidity of man)
And why are wolves considered EXOTIC? Every dog we own now is just a decension of a wolf and Huskies are largely popular and very very close to wolves. I honestly don't understand what's wrong with a wolf :/
to all the proud exotic animal owners, ....Go to africa or wherever your exotic animal came from, rehabilitate them there along with THEIR fellow animals, provide them wide open reserves where they feel at HOME, and protect them from poachers with all the might you have....spend a lifetime doing this irrespective of the outcome in your life....then, we know you are TRULY an exotic animal LOVER. IF YOU DO NOT KNOW WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT, WATCH OR READ ABOUT GEORGE ADAMSON.....GOOOOOOD LUCK!!!!
everyone better get used tot he fact that you now have a "right not to be offended"... freedom of choice and speech were meant to protect what was controversial.. not so we could choose to talk about going to the store. the governments you vote for represent the common person... which happens to be very stupid. its what libertarians have been saying for years... it wont matter what rights they take away until they encroach on your life...
You don't really seem to understand the point about exotic animals.
The problem is not that you have something 'out of the ordinary' but the fact that a lot of exotic animalowners can't handle them because of their exotic and wild behaving. Sure, there are people who take great care of them and know everything about them, but a lot of exotic pets get dumped or left at animal shelters. That's messed up
A lot of people cannot handle dogs. They cannot handle that they are social pack animals that need lots of attention, socializing, exercise, vet care and quality food. Millions of them are abandoned and killed every year at shelters, way more than any exotic pet. Many are also kept chained in yards as lawn ornaments. Banning dogs from being pets would probably stop more animals from being abused than banning exotics would. But wouldn't it be better instead to educate people on their care?
If an animal of whatever breed is happy living with humans, and can form a relationship with it's owners... then as long as that isn't achieved by threatening the population of the animal in the wild, then it can only be a good thing for the preservation of the species and even if domestic breeds are developed it is still good for genetic diversity... If the animals are happy, then who is to say that that is the wrong environment for them.
try living in california..pretty much every exotic..or what our damn government"thinks" is exotic..even if theyre not..are banned here..this state is sad on so many levels
It doesn't matter if the animal is exotic or domestic. If the owner is responsible, caring, and exceeds the standard of care, they should be left in peace. Especially since wild habitats are shrinking. All these people are mad over someone else's pets. Why don't they show the same initiative towards people? There are plenty of places in the world that need money, exposure, and volunteers, too.
Very few exotic animals are imported anymore. Most are very successfully captive bred. The problem now is people who don't understand, or who hate animal owners, are doing everything in their power to 'rid us of our exotic animals'. I just wish that there was a way to share what we know and experience when working around exotic animals with everyone. Then, a lot of these crazy ideas about where animals belong would simply go away.
@timbalionguy Exotic pets owners are just satisfying a need to show off. Does a lion really need to live in a chain linked fence, be fed and groomed, and allowed to walk around his confinement space? No better than zoos.
I hope places like reanoexotics do get shut down and legally different states make it tougher to own exotic pets. Once I finish law school in Chicago, I will be involved in creating new legislation for exotic pet owners in Illinois.
If you illegally imported your exotic, you should be shot. If you rescued it however i support you. Lets stock the forests before we stock our homes people. Exotics belong in the wild.
At about 4 minutes in the video states "some people have to surrender pets do to moving where wild animals are not allowed" and "who plans 20 years in the future?"
Uh, I would NEVER commit to moving anywhere I couldn't take my cats. My pets are my children. Maybe some animal owners don't feel the same, and if so, they Should NOT own them!!!
Does anybody ever consider what is the most benificial situation for the animals? They are not domesticated, just tamed. They all still have their wild instincts and I feel that even when we try our hardest at trying to care for them, we can never give them the same quality of life as that they would (and should) have if they were in the wild. If people stop buying them, breeders will see that there is no demand and they supply will stop.
@klaverenvrouwke In the wild, they could be shot, poisoned, starved, and pick up diseases. Their habitats are being destroyed, as well, sadly. Responsible ownership means just that. Ensuring the animal you have has the best quality of life, is safe from disease and harm, and has all of its needs met. The wild isn't just some utopia we can comfort ourselves with. Animals suffer there, too.
Why can't we agree on this? These animals deserve the best possible life--in or out of the wild.
@FascistFemale true, BUT...... We shouldn't keep them in captivity to "protect" them from possible starvation in the wild. Yes they pick up diseases, yes they get injured, yes they could die at a you age in the wild, but that is a part of their life. It's how it has always been and how it always will be. That foxes get shot and poisoned and that their habitat is distroyed is because of mans own stupidity.
@FascistFemale * and not just foxes, but any kind of animal in the wild. of course I agree with you that they deserve the best life they can get. but my view is that we cannot give them that, even though they get pampered to death sometimes. Life in the wild has its risks. But that's part of it. These animals' forefathers came from the wild, which shows where they belong. In the habitat where they evolved in. Not in someones living room on a different continent.
@klaverenvrouwke I agree to a point--we shouldn't be taking animals out of the wild to be pets for us in captivity, but almost all of these animals depicted here are bred in captivity. And part of what I believe to be "responsible ownership" is providing a natural environment to meet their needs as if they were in the wild. Not a house. (My domestic cats do enough damage!)
Don't forget that a large part of protecting endangered wildlife is a degree of removal from the wild, too.
@FascistFemale Yup, but then my reply is that these animals shouldn't be bred in captivity anyways. If they'd stop breeding them then we wouldn't be here. Problem solved! And why animals are removed from the wild like you mentioned is because we stuffed it up for them in the first place. In nature, everything is balanced. if we start taking elements away then the system is messed up which means that we have to step in to "correct' it. Leave it all alone and nature will sort itself out I believe.
@klaverenvrouwke This is the problem. We're not special. This *is* nature at work. Humans are the top predator and other species have to adapt or die. Captive breeding is often the only answer to stabilize an endangered population, or else hunting and destruction of habitat will drive that species into extinction. Not everyone will share your concerns, either. How can you go to India and tell a man he can't make a farm or shoot a tiger to save his family? Especially as a privileged foreigner?
@FascistFemale Indeed, unfortunately captive breeding is sometimes the only answer. But let it be done by zoos or breeding projects. Big cats for example that are kept as pets surely don't help save the species from extinction in the wild. And neither do all those capuchin monkeys that are dressed up in human clothes.
Farming and shooting aren't the only answer. That man could also be employed as a guide to show well paying tourists around, whilst maintaining the natural habitat.
@klaverenvrouwke Idealizing one situation is almost as harmful as spreading misinformation. I've seen bad zoos, too. Everyone thinks private owners are horrible. Private owners have the most at stake to ensure their animal is happy, healthy, and safe. They contribute to a stable population, too. (And if you think some man is going to be a guide catering to spoiled foreigners who tell him to live his life around an animal that threatens his livelihood & family, think again.)
@FascistFemale All those white tigers for example. They all decend from one male bengal tiger. To keep the white coat color they had to be inbred and because bengals are fairly small and they wanted bigger tigers, they crossed them with siberians. So all of them are a mix of subspecies and besides that riddled with diseases, like blindness for example. Sure, a white tiger looks cool, but if ppl really want to help tigers, then donate to in situ projects that help subspecies survive in the wild.
@klaverenvrouwke Ah, there's no point in breeding white tigers. It's a double recessive gene carried by normal and white tigers--like having green eyes. There's also danger in nature from genetic bottle-necking. Often human intervention is required to ensure that the genetic integrity of an endangered species is maintained.
All I want people to know is that there are responsible caretakers out there for animals. And to avoid spamming this video, this is the last I will post here.
Animals don't cause the problems, it's the people. It is not the animal's fault if it is owned by an imbecile who isn't fit to take care of it. Plenty of assholes out there aren't suited to care for dogs or cats either.
This is a fantastic video and a cause I support wholeheartedly, but I think there was slightly too much emphasis on big cats and primates, when reptiles and arachnids are just as in peril from ignorant legislation. And I don't even -know- where a person could find a tapir.
@missmonita777 Um... you DO realize that dogs were wild wolves until they were habituated around sapiens, and that humans are just gorillas with no fur, right?
I don't really have a problem with 'exotic pets' as I do with 'morons who buy exotic pets and then the pet grows up to be huge and they either kill it or the pet kills them', also known as people with a lot of money and not a lot of brain.
The fact remains many idiots buy a baby wild animal which doesn't like, come from a zoo or a breeder but from the wild. That means someone went out, probably killed the mother and stole the baby in a horrid way therefor thinning the wild population out.
missmonita listen and listen well people who own exotic pets are doing a valid service to this planet by doing what they are doing i.e helping to prezerve animals such as monkeys whos dropings help the rain forest or exotic birds that do the same thing or helping keep tigers and lions stay alive yes i agree their should be laws that will regulate them for safety but come on and you peta bitchs stop saying they hurt people cause not all exotics attack people and not all owners mistreat them
You moron, captive exotic pets contribute nothing to environment. None of their offspring will be released to the wild, and most would not survive even if they were. Don't fucking kid yourself.
i was just wondering if you could help me. I am looking to buy an exotic pet and I wanted to know what kind would be best. I want something small (about 10 pounds) that is a mammal and whose cage oesnt take up a lot of space. Also a animal whose feeding doesnt cost a lot of money
@Alaskarose098 - Get online, do lots of research, get some training and experience if at all possible. Join appropriate e-lists about the animals that most interest you. Check your laws to make sure it is legal where you live. Above all, be completely informed on the choice you finally make, and be prepared for all aspects of its care, for as long as it lives. If you do your homework up front, the rewards of owning an unusual animal will make it well worth the effort involved.
It's so sad that a lot of people buy exotic animals without knowing what they're getting into. It always ends up with either the animal traumatized or the owner mauled.
They might get a much more positive reaction if people stopped focussing on these horrible owners and learned that there are a lot of people that can take care of exotic animals responsibly.
it's stupid acting like there is no difference between domestic and wild animals- there is
domestic animals have a built-in inhibition against hurting people, wild animals completely lack this
why can't people be happy with domestic, non-dangerous pets? It's because it's a power thing. These people like having power over a dangerous animal, and they go around life with an attitude of "I want it, so I'm gonna get it, no matter how it affects the animal"
@maximum411 And you don't know what netspeak is? Or l33t? Do you know what /b/ or anonymous is? sheesh. SRSLY though, 'wild' animals will always be wild until they're domesticated. Do you realize that dogs are just wolves that have been bred specifically for certain purposes?
No, I know exactly what those are, but there's a difference between abbreviating and just putting together incoherent sentences that don't mean anything.
And I obviously know that dogs were once wild, but it took a long time to get them to where they are, and the most-accepted theory right now is that early animals "self-domesticated," e.g. they began hanging around human camps for food and gradually became more tame, rather than being captured from the wild.
After the initial dogs had self-domesticated, and some of these already tame dogs were brought into human homes, then breeds were developed for specific jobs and appearances. The common idea that cavemen took a wolf pup out of the wild and raised it and bred it in their homes until it became a dog is wrong.
People today, with all our time and knowledge of animal behavior still have trouble raising captive wolves. You think a hunter-gatherer would have the patience for that?
ANIMALS BELONG TO NATURE, 'the right to choose what kind of animals to OWN!?!?'
Are you people STUPID or something??, WE DONT OWN NOTHING in this world.. we are just passing over.... ANIMALS ARE NOT STUFF TO OWN, they belong to wild.
Don't you get it yet?, are you THAT STUPID to get it?
Have you ever considered all the tigers and lions who are killed because of birth defects, due to foolish people attempting to breed them for profit? Have you ever pondered why we are seeing more and more rescues for exotic animals.
People who have these creatures for pets are normally selfish and foolish.
i feed them and care for them nd love them i have monkeys lions and 2 wolfs it is hard to care for them but i am waiting for the day i make a wrong move and iget attacked and possibly killed owning animals like these is very hard to do one wrong look or move or gesture could be the end to a life god let man love animals in this way but if you go to far somthing can happen
It's rlly the pple that got attacked should be Blane since they should no THAT it depends on they treat the pet(s) n they should still be cautious that they are WILD bit I'm definitely sure that the amount of love u gave them will return back since those animals wI'll never judge u n make mean comments lke a Human
i have to chimpanzees one capuchin and a cotton top tamiran and none of them have ever attacked me and the chimps are four years old so your blind of the media the people who say exotic animals should not be kept i bet you dont own a exotic so you wont know the love they give torawds you gods animals are his and gave them to us to love and some eat so dont complain about people owning a tiger because you wont know the love he gives torawd his owner thank you
If I could have any animal in the world as a pet it would be a red panda. Fully grown they are a little bit larger than the average house cat, thier mouths about the same size and strength as that of a moderately sized dog, and they are no more or less agressive than the average puppy. Just as safe to keep as a pet as any dog would be. So why should any one look at me any differently if that is the kind of pet I want instead of a dog or a cat. Screw a dog or cat person I am a red panda person.
Please Note: Wild animals are not pets. If you should ever find a baby animal, or are offered a wild animal... call your local Department of Natural Resources to find a wildlife rehabilitation center. Wildlife does not belong in houses. It is wrong to keep a wild animal. Do what is right, and let someone who knows about these animals raise and release it back into the wild. DO NOT PURCHASE wild animals, you would be contributing to 'farming' animals, which leads to abuse and neglect. Thank You.
@ghostygirlmn I did one time keep a wild squirrel as a pet for a short time. However this was because of a rather unusual circumstance... This squirrel had been born with only 3 legs and had been kicked out of the nest by its mother. The wildlife center told me all they would do is put it down but I felt it could survive well if properly cared for. Unfortunately he died some years ago.
there are plenty of people who own exotic animals and have never had a situation where they have been attacked. && Animals can find comfort, happiness, life fullness whereever they are if their with the right people. As you can see all those animals looked happy and so did the owners; REMEBER PEOPLE CATS &DOGS USED TO BE WILD TOOO; everything takes time to perfect and these people are doing just that! And to take them away from that oppurtunity is unfair!
some exottic pets are abandoned as babies by their mother are mostly bigcats and monkies. they would die if they were not decent exotic pet owners to care for them and some are too far endangered to survive in the wild.
People have every right to have an exotic pet, as long as they know how to take care of them properly. Animal rights groups (which is very different from animal welfare) want ALL PETS to die out. Including pets like dogs and cats. We need to fight this for our right to keep our pets!
Most people shouldn't be allowed to have Kids. They still do and no-one does anything about it. If half of the kids were cared for as much as these loved exotics we wouldn't need as many foster homes.
Dude I bet you every single one of those monkey/chimp owners have been bitten at least once and if they tell you no then they are A.) lying or B.) have yet to be bit
my opinion keep exotic animals just like in the zoo.
and dont let them get tho mutch in contact with humans.
watch do not cudl them or so
dont get my wrong but domestication takes more then a tousands of yeurs tho work and stil there is a part in the brain thats cald instict. and that jou cant get rid of never
NEXT THE POLICE ARE GOING TO GO INTO PEOPLE'S HOMES AND SHOOT THEIR EXOTIC PETS BECAUSE THEY ARE AFRAID OF THEM just like they do with our beloved dogs, the system is corrupt and CRIMINAL and is destroying our potential to build a positive community and environment for our future generations
Think of all of the pet tigers in this world that live their lives in cages or pen areas. To have lived their life knowing nothing but a small enclosure. Tigers should be allowed to roam free, tigers should not be forced to suffer for the amusement of a selfish human being.
@Cuyameck maybe that would be better for them than living with people. I mean any idiot can buy them off wildlife auctions or irresponsible breeders and nobody has training in handling them nor are their propetries checked to see if they are able to properly care for such animals. Anybody can throw a piece of meat in front of a tiger or lion, but is it really beneficial to the animal to be kept in a cage all its life? Stop breeding them and leave the wild ones where they belong
Some wild and exotic animals just aren't meant to be domesticated. And then people wonder why there are so many attacks and even killings that happen to people who own exotic animals.Take for instance the lady whos chimpanzee ripped her friends face off. They are insanely strong..who can honestly keep an animal like that under control especially if that animal decides to attack.
Well the chimp was agitated to begin with and angry and her friend was afraid of the chimp always and it sensed that and it took its anger out on her. It didnt attack her for no reason
@xGingaWarriorx .I never said it attacked her for no reason. The chimp was on Xanax at the time because it was given to him by his owner....he didnt recognize the lady he attacked because she had changed her appearance by changing her hair color and style.
@xGingaWarriorx .She stated on an interview i saw that she believed the chimp was agitated and she felt he "needed" xanax to calm down.I dont know how she knew that would help him..but look at the situation that occured shortly after giving him the drug.
Id like to own exotic animals, once i move out and everything i will probably get my first. If exotic pet keeping isnt banned by then anyways. I have already done alot of reserch. And have a taste of exotic ownership with a few reptiles. Which require more specialised care then people realise same with exotic pets.
I completely agree with the video. You should have the right to own any animal, as long as they're being taken care of and not endangered. (Yes I'm against owning a wolf unless you're breeding them)
My family found a hurt coyote pup in our neighborhood and lured it to our backyard to keep it safe. I stayed at the house and my grandma left to go find out if there was anything we could do without it being put down. I was outside with it and my neighbors still called animal control and it was put down because they said we made it our pet.
Wolfyy23, try visiting a site like the Feline Conservation Federation website. There, you can learn all about hwat it takes to care for an exotic cat. A lot of hard work, likely expensive, likely legal hassles, but the love that comes back in return is priceless!
Lovely video. People seem to forget that most owners love their pets regardless of what they are, and if an animal is going to be abused it wont be because of its species (there needs to be more focus on rescuing abused animals of any species!) If an exotic has an owner that loves them and they belong to a family then removing them is cruel. To many animals social structure is vitaly important, to tear them out of their pack is nothing less than a form of torture and must stop :(
How do you know that to be the case? Have you ever worked with big cats? Any animals? Yes, non-domestic animals may have stronger natural instincts. But then, they also build stronger bonds with their human friends.
Animals right people are retarded, and so are people that try to make wild animals pets! YOU CAN NEVER FULLY DOMISTICATE A WILD ANIMAL. im sorry you cant take away there natural instincts! IT WRONG!!!
Um, what about wolves, cats, horses etc? They were all once wild animals? Domestication is possible with most animals I would say, it just takes a few generations of selective breeding and getting the species used to (and trusting of) people.
lmfao i find the animal rights ppl to be retarded.
theres countries that kill these beautiful creatures for religious reasons and they dont worry then, but if u raise an animal in a loving environment and care for it ur a bad person...chances are they would of been killed iin the wild by some douchebag and these ppl care enuff to help the species...
like the video above says, the laws change unpredictably, who would really want to risk that? Propaganda works on both side too, this is the nice side of exotic pets, make people believe it's all nice and hunky dory. Make a video of where every single animal in that video came from, how it was transported, how its parents delt with the stress and grief, how many die in transport and i might change my mind.
You are believing the lies being put forth by the major animal rights groups. They absolutely HATE loving relationships between animals and people. All animals, but especially exotic animals build deep bonds with the humans that care for them. The animals benefit from the relationship as much as the humans. And considering how little wild habitat is left, captive husbandry by caring people is the ONLY thing that will save these animals for posterity.
Keeping 1 big cat is not helping save the species. keeping male and female is. Most of these people keep a solitary animal, which by the looks of things is a really amazing bond. I couldn't help noticing there was no photos of a pet exotic with young? surely for your arguements sake there should be if captive breeding is the only way to save these animals?!? If you want to bond with an animal get a dog! this is a selfish trade and seems to be just for show! p.s i'm not believing anybodies lies
Most exotic cat people have more than one animal. Cubs are only around once in a while because they grow quickly and are placed with other owners. Because big cats breed so easily, most owners only breed their animals once or twice in their lives. The responsible owners do not wantonly breed their animals, and they try to breed them such that genetic diversity is maintained. As far as bonding, I have a God-given right to bond with the animals that best suit me, and in my case is it big cats.
@ca55ie89 -"... Make a video of where every single animal in that video came from ..."
Nice straw man you've built, but usually not the case here in the US. Most exotic pets are raise right here. Every rare cat born, is another one alive in the world.
Until humanity abandons a great portion of this planet to wilderness and restores it as such, wild animals will continue to decline. All large animals not kept by people as pets or food will likely cease to exist.
How do people get these animals? If its a rescue case or something like that then fair enough but wanting a tiger, just because it's cool or whatever is sick! Alot of these animals would have been captured from the wild as young as possible then hand fed, there must be a high percentage of death in this trade. If you love snakes, big catsor whatever, travel the world to see them, donate money to charities to help protect them (carried on below)
Hell, if you can provide 100% of what the animal needs and I mean 100% like if you can provide at the VERY LEAST 1/2 acre of enclosed secured land that provides a good natural habitat for them and that mimicks their natural habitat then sure you can have an exotic pet. If the animal is cared for and isn't forced into unatural habitats then sure you can have an exotic pet. If the animal is fed a proper diet of what it would in the wild, sure you can have an exotic pet.
If you said no to any of these, then why would you put a beautiful exotic animal through that; wild animals deserve to be free. For god sake if you want to dress something and tote it around like a doll, dont get a monkey get a DOLL!!!
there is no where for them in the wild. if we dont breed them and keep them in captivity then they will go exstinced. example the tiger there is less than 2000 in the wild.why habatait destruction and potching. there have ben animals saved from extiction and reinterdosed to the wild from captive breeding programs. people have stolen the homes from the wild animals to build there citys. so lets let the tigers and lions go in nyc.
No one has enough room for a lion or tiger, they are unpredictable WILD animals! You can never remove instincts from a WILD animal. So please let them live in the WILD!
Are you a retard? All of our "domestic" pets were WILD animals, so, yes, WILD animals can be tamed. Also, WILD silver foxes were DOMESTICATED in 50 years.
Only a moron would say wild animals cannot be tamed.
Also, many "wild" captive bred exotic pets are more safe to be around than "domesticated" dogs, horses and cattle, which kill more people per year than all exotic pets combined.
for one good caretaker an exotic pet owner, there's 2 that are morons..
if it's not legislated right, abuse will happen...i specifically remember a guy that would go in provincial parks with his dogs to hunt wildlife .. all because some dog owners complained that they couldn't let fheir weiner dog or schnitzer loose to get some exercise
And legislators are trying to do it again! They're making it illegal to move from one state to another with snakes and lizards, which I think is just stupid!!! I'd like to have the ARAs who are talking them into these dumb laws put to sleep!!!
Stop pretending your opinion is a fact. Saying exotic pets belong in the wild is like me saying white people belong in Europe or wherever they came from, or dogs should be only working animals and not pets because they maul and kill people sometimes. Its an opinion, not a fact.
Possibily retarded but not as much as you! Bottom line is animals are unpredictable and when was the last time you heard of a dog mauling someone? No, you haven't that's because they don't unless they're protecting their owners or they've been abused. Horses and cattle will not attack unless you give them a REASON too. I work with them everyday so don't give me that! You can NEVER tame the killer instinct out of a lion and tiger!
@Kbyusxie actually lions and tiger attacks happen less than most domesticated attacks do and if they do attack it is usually for the same reasons a domesticated dog will. Also did you know that in the last year 30people have died from a dog attack and over 100 have been very hurt where as compared to the three or 4 that wild animals kill. I know this as i work with animals and special breeders to help grow the populations.
@Fleefles You have seemed to have tricked yourself into thinking that what you said actually made sense. Animals, just like human beings, belong in their natural environments. You would have to be an extremely selfish person to confine a majestic animal like a lion or tiger to a cage in your backyard simply because you can. I guess that is what this world has come to today....
Those who are fit to own an exotic animal.... all sizes.. should.. however not thaaaaat many are.. cuz:
- rich
- big ass space
- a lot of time and dedication
- not be a complete utter fucktard
- be REALISTIC with yourself
All in all... the few ruin it for the many.
But there are so many idiotic, stupid, imbecile, and retarded people out that that are so one sided.. once they hear their side - THATS IT.. regardless of what you say, they stay like that.
large, and not so large, exotic animals require a much space to run around in. They also require a lot of spending time with them.. treating them "right".. money... SPACE.. the two big ones are a lot of space and lots of time.
There are also those who just have/rescue exotic animals and lock them away.. literally.. and only feed them. Cages might be small, medium, or even large. But guess what? it's a cage. The same routine over and over again. The "cold treatment" from the owners. Animals beco
Hmm.. where to start. Well, it IS true that you WAY more often hear of a dog (usually a pitbull or a rottweiler) attacking a person. Sometimes it is fatal and other times it's "not that bad". You barely ever hear of an exotic animal attacking a human being.
But then again you've to be realistic. People are VERY stupid and think "oh a baby tiger, how cute!! I have to have one". They may live in a large house, have a steady job, ect... but
I stand by REXANO and support them 110%. What they say is true, responsible exotic animal owners should be allowed to keep their animals. If they are irrsponsible and neglect their animals then i can see why they need them taken away. Any animal dogs, cats and exotics all can be dangerous.
those cervals are incredibly beautiful though. i guess this is why i got a tabby. he looks like the wild cat. I also noticed it was mostly mammals. why are they just picking on the mammal lovers, what about the bird owners
Some of these comments... seriously. I don't own any exotic pets, and I am envious of people who do but I enjoy the fact that some exotic animals can find nice solitary homes that people aren't constantly watching in on them, or the threat of being hunted down in their own homeland that we humans are destroying...
And DANGEROUS? Any animal can be dangerous, domesticated or not! I hear more stories about DOMESTICATED dogs killing their owners then I do about Exotic pet owners getting killed
@nekohisoka very true, take a ball python for example. people hear the name PYTHON and think huge ass killer snake, in reality these snakes are near harmless and are a blast to own. or how about a black & white tegu, its a huge powerfull lizard, but its harmless and dosile. its litteral like having a puppy...just in lizard format.
@cdsplaya guess it depends on the lizard...but my buddy has a monitor lizard...it roams his basment all day, and the upperfloards when he's home. it poops in a litter box, it eats out of food bowls. and it comes to sleep with you on the couch it a fun pet no doubt. lol
@nekohisoka besides most exotic animals cant survive here. only select places in the world can they live, like i live in canada for example. if my tegu were to escape and run free, its got till nighfall before it suffers extreme cold, and if somehow it lived its only a matter of time till it dies from thr cold. because most exotic animals like lizards and snakes NEED heat to live. nothing would survive more than a few months.
Deception in this video is that the majority of animals being cuddled (a few exceptions) are youngsters. When adults, many are not cuddly. That doesn't mean that they can't be humanely cared for in captivity, BUT some are under the impression that if I raise it with love, it will always be tame. Dogs and cats have their bad days, but are easier to control. Try telling an adult chimp or lion to behave. You can dominate a mastiff, but not adult primates or big cats.
It should be on a case by case basis. I have rescued animals for yrs & most people could not handle big cats and primates. All animals deserve protection & exotics should not be removed if safely cared for. Problem is the exploiters who convince the uneducated that a chimp or a tiger is a good pet. Most cannot provide the physical and mental needs of these animals. Whether it be a poodle, pitbull, or puma, pets need protection. I am not for automatic removal of exotics, just strict guides.
if it wernt for breeding programes and private onership lots of these beautifil creatures would be extinct ,people who own them have a background knowledge of what they are taking on and i salute anyone who can dedicate time to this as its very demanding and rewarding i think there needs to be a criteria, though, you cant take these animals away from owners they love thats like saying we should go back to our roots would you like to be plucked from your sofa and threw back into a cave with
umm i love animals but i know that there's animals that u can own and have as a pet and some that u couldnt not because of the extreme care and dangerous wild instincts
Some people shouldnt have kids, big trucks or even dogs.If you feel you can not handle something, don't get it, but don't assume everybody has same limitations like you put on yourself, Let others make their own life choices.
The ignorance of non-exotic animal owners never ceases to amaze me. I seldom comment, and when I do it is only because I am bored. Over and over again, these pathetic attempts to somehow try and belittle us--your comments stem from narrow-mindedness and jealousy because you will never attain the level of bonding and love of an exotic animal that we owners, handlers, trainers, etc. have done and will continue to do.
You are some peice of work. This is not even about the animals. This is about feeding your ego masked as your civil rights.
YOU HAVE NO PERSONAL RIGHT TO OWN THESE ANIMALS. And your a douch bag for beliveing your own bull shit with this nonsense tear jerker of a youtube video trying to justify your own selfish actions.
You have severe displaced values & priorites in life. You are not part of the solutuion. You are part of the problem.
These animals DO NOT DO WELL NOR THRIVE IN CAPTIVITY
What is the name of this song?????? Please Reply Back !!!! - awesome video by the way :)

It is very hard to breed most exotic pets in captivity—one of the many tell-tale signs that even experts don't understand what these animals need in order to thrive. To meet the demands of those who keep exotic animals as pets, dealers often have to take the animals from their native lands. This disrupts the ecosystems from which they are stolen, and can disrupt the ecosystems to which they are taken if they escape or are set loose.
akAsha6E6D 4 weeks ago
if you care for the welfare of the animal you leave it in its natural habitat! Since the vast majority of people who keep exotic animals cannot meet their needs, the animals may be caged, chained, or even beaten into submission.coz if they were there would be no need for such confinements,a walk on a leash through the park won't cut it.Sometimes, people will have an animal's teeth or claws removed, so that the animal cannot harm the owner even when he does struggle.what abt medical care???
akAsha6E6D 4 weeks ago
Owning a parrot or turtle is one thing. But how many big cat owners can honestly afford to feed and house a tiger properly? An adult tiger needs a well constricted habitat costing thousands and will eat between 30-50 lbs. of meat each day. Not to mention the dangers associated with living with these animals! It takes a very educated and wealthy person to properly keep exotic animals for personal purposes. Your "right" to keep them is not as important as my "right" to demand proper care of them.
themiddleman009 2 months ago

How many animals has he owned?
retick100 3 months ago

XXXaltiel 3 months ago
Let me paint a picture for anyone who supports these legislations: Imagine having a dog. He adores you. You have given him food, a home and a loving family. All of a sudden the government bans anyone from owning a dog, because of a recent event where one sick, twisted fiend constantly beat his puppy for fun! DOES THAT SEEM FAIR? Seriously, I find it amazing that people don't see that! I understand these are wild animals, but if they are truly happy with their owners, isn't that all that matters?
philliesphreak10 5 months ago
Shulamitefire you're a complete dumbass! First off, if we release all domesticated animals into the wild, they will all FUCKING DIE!!!! They rely on human beings for food and shelter. That's the whole definition of domestication! Secondly, where the fuck did you grow up? People own pets for the sake of love. Unfortunately, there are a few people so incredibly sick and devoid of any human decency, that they get a kick from making poor helpless animals suffer! You're amazingly stupid!
philliesphreak10 5 months ago
Exotic animals belong in the wild, not in a backyard it just not fair for the animal. also when his instincts take over and attack the owner the owner all crying saying 'why I loved him'.
Armandocoolio 5 months ago
Exotics belong in the wild. Stop being selfish. I purpose never to have any animal or bird in a cage or pen or on a line. That also includes all domestic animals. They suffer far more than we know & are more important than amusement or to show off. If you want to love more consider doing something more for the starving children, the homeless, etc.,etc.

It's great that you love your exotics pets, but i think those tigers, chimpanzees and bobcats are way happier in the wild where they belong. And if you owners love them so much, you should set them free and protect them from human interaction and poaching etc
ArcticRalph 7 months ago
I think only like sugar gliders, hedgies, ferrets, some reptles should be kept as pets. Not like tigers, chimp or genets.

Please people, if you have an exotic pet that gets too big or rips your face off, it is a wild animal and you must be understanding and care for it the rest of it's life... If you can't continue, then why did you buy the pet in the first place (sigh, the stupidity of man)

That's messed up
ArcticRalph 7 months ago

Ugh. This makes me kinda sad.
FascistFemale 10 months ago
Very few exotic animals are imported anymore. Most are very successfully captive bred. The problem now is people who don't understand, or who hate animal owners, are doing everything in their power to 'rid us of our exotic animals'. I just wish that there was a way to share what we know and experience when working around exotic animals with everyone. Then, a lot of these crazy ideas about where animals belong would simply go away.
timbalionguy 10 months ago 6
@timbalionguy Exotic pets owners are just satisfying a need to show off. Does a lion really need to live in a chain linked fence, be fed and groomed, and allowed to walk around his confinement space? No better than zoos.
I hope places like reanoexotics do get shut down and legally different states make it tougher to own exotic pets. Once I finish law school in Chicago, I will be involved in creating new legislation for exotic pet owners in Illinois.
NuzratHussein 1 month ago
If you illegally imported your exotic, you should be shot. If you rescued it however i support you. Lets stock the forests before we stock our homes people. Exotics belong in the wild.

At about 4 minutes in the video states "some people have to surrender pets do to moving where wild animals are not allowed" and "who plans 20 years in the future?"
Uh, I would NEVER commit to moving anywhere I couldn't take my cats. My pets are my children. Maybe some animal owners don't feel the same, and if so, they Should NOT own them!!!
CherokeeCat 11 months ago 5
Does anybody ever consider what is the most benificial situation for the animals? They are not domesticated, just tamed. They all still have their wild instincts and I feel that even when we try our hardest at trying to care for them, we can never give them the same quality of life as that they would (and should) have if they were in the wild. If people stop buying them, breeders will see that there is no demand and they supply will stop.
klaverenvrouwke 11 months ago
@klaverenvrouwke In the wild, they could be shot, poisoned, starved, and pick up diseases. Their habitats are being destroyed, as well, sadly. Responsible ownership means just that. Ensuring the animal you have has the best quality of life, is safe from disease and harm, and has all of its needs met. The wild isn't just some utopia we can comfort ourselves with. Animals suffer there, too.
Why can't we agree on this? These animals deserve the best possible life--in or out of the wild.
FascistFemale 10 months ago
@FascistFemale true, BUT...... We shouldn't keep them in captivity to "protect" them from possible starvation in the wild. Yes they pick up diseases, yes they get injured, yes they could die at a you age in the wild, but that is a part of their life. It's how it has always been and how it always will be. That foxes get shot and poisoned and that their habitat is distroyed is because of mans own stupidity.
klaverenvrouwke 10 months ago
@FascistFemale * and not just foxes, but any kind of animal in the wild. of course I agree with you that they deserve the best life they can get. but my view is that we cannot give them that, even though they get pampered to death sometimes. Life in the wild has its risks. But that's part of it. These animals' forefathers came from the wild, which shows where they belong. In the habitat where they evolved in. Not in someones living room on a different continent.
klaverenvrouwke 10 months ago
@klaverenvrouwke I agree to a point--we shouldn't be taking animals out of the wild to be pets for us in captivity, but almost all of these animals depicted here are bred in captivity. And part of what I believe to be "responsible ownership" is providing a natural environment to meet their needs as if they were in the wild. Not a house. (My domestic cats do enough damage!)
Don't forget that a large part of protecting endangered wildlife is a degree of removal from the wild, too.
FascistFemale 10 months ago
@FascistFemale Yup, but then my reply is that these animals shouldn't be bred in captivity anyways. If they'd stop breeding them then we wouldn't be here. Problem solved! And why animals are removed from the wild like you mentioned is because we stuffed it up for them in the first place. In nature, everything is balanced. if we start taking elements away then the system is messed up which means that we have to step in to "correct' it. Leave it all alone and nature will sort itself out I believe.
klaverenvrouwke 10 months ago
@klaverenvrouwke This is the problem. We're not special. This *is* nature at work. Humans are the top predator and other species have to adapt or die. Captive breeding is often the only answer to stabilize an endangered population, or else hunting and destruction of habitat will drive that species into extinction. Not everyone will share your concerns, either. How can you go to India and tell a man he can't make a farm or shoot a tiger to save his family? Especially as a privileged foreigner?
FascistFemale 10 months ago
@FascistFemale Indeed, unfortunately captive breeding is sometimes the only answer. But let it be done by zoos or breeding projects. Big cats for example that are kept as pets surely don't help save the species from extinction in the wild. And neither do all those capuchin monkeys that are dressed up in human clothes.
Farming and shooting aren't the only answer. That man could also be employed as a guide to show well paying tourists around, whilst maintaining the natural habitat.
klaverenvrouwke 10 months ago
@klaverenvrouwke Idealizing one situation is almost as harmful as spreading misinformation. I've seen bad zoos, too. Everyone thinks private owners are horrible. Private owners have the most at stake to ensure their animal is happy, healthy, and safe. They contribute to a stable population, too. (And if you think some man is going to be a guide catering to spoiled foreigners who tell him to live his life around an animal that threatens his livelihood & family, think again.)
FascistFemale 10 months ago
@FascistFemale All those white tigers for example. They all decend from one male bengal tiger. To keep the white coat color they had to be inbred and because bengals are fairly small and they wanted bigger tigers, they crossed them with siberians. So all of them are a mix of subspecies and besides that riddled with diseases, like blindness for example. Sure, a white tiger looks cool, but if ppl really want to help tigers, then donate to in situ projects that help subspecies survive in the wild.
klaverenvrouwke 10 months ago
@klaverenvrouwke Ah, there's no point in breeding white tigers. It's a double recessive gene carried by normal and white tigers--like having green eyes. There's also danger in nature from genetic bottle-necking. Often human intervention is required to ensure that the genetic integrity of an endangered species is maintained.
All I want people to know is that there are responsible caretakers out there for animals. And to avoid spamming this video, this is the last I will post here.
FascistFemale 10 months ago
Animals don't cause the problems, it's the people. It is not the animal's fault if it is owned by an imbecile who isn't fit to take care of it. Plenty of assholes out there aren't suited to care for dogs or cats either.
This is a fantastic video and a cause I support wholeheartedly, but I think there was slightly too much emphasis on big cats and primates, when reptiles and arachnids are just as in peril from ignorant legislation. And I don't even -know- where a person could find a tapir.

Alaskarose098 1 year ago
@Alaskarose098 - Get online, do lots of research, get some training and experience if at all possible. Join appropriate e-lists about the animals that most interest you. Check your laws to make sure it is legal where you live. Above all, be completely informed on the choice you finally make, and be prepared for all aspects of its care, for as long as it lives. If you do your homework up front, the rewards of owning an unusual animal will make it well worth the effort involved.
timbalionguy 1 year ago
@Alaskarose098 that is a laughable request. Any exotic pet will need tons of room and costs a lot of money. My recommendation: get a hamster.

Caro2471 1 year ago
it's stupid acting like there is no difference between domestic and wild animals- there is
domestic animals have a built-in inhibition against hurting people, wild animals completely lack this
why can't people be happy with domestic, non-dangerous pets? It's because it's a power thing. These people like having power over a dangerous animal, and they go around life with an attitude of "I want it, so I'm gonna get it, no matter how it affects the animal"

@maximum411 And you don't know what netspeak is? Or l33t? Do you know what /b/ or anonymous is? sheesh. SRSLY though, 'wild' animals will always be wild until they're domesticated. Do you realize that dogs are just wolves that have been bred specifically for certain purposes?
OchrismongrelO 11 months ago
@OchrismongrelO
No, I know exactly what those are, but there's a difference between abbreviating and just putting together incoherent sentences that don't mean anything.
And I obviously know that dogs were once wild, but it took a long time to get them to where they are, and the most-accepted theory right now is that early animals "self-domesticated," e.g. they began hanging around human camps for food and gradually became more tame, rather than being captured from the wild.
maximum411 11 months ago
@maximum411 That makes no sense. Dog breeds were bred for specific traits.
OchrismongrelO 11 months ago
@OchrismongrelO

Thank You.

@ghostygirlmn lol you sound stupid. :)
DDI0N 1 year ago

And to take them away from that oppurtunity is unfair!
clairbbay11 1 year ago
How are we supposed to co-exist with mother nature when we can't even responsibly have them live with us?
Thorn14 1 year ago
some exottic pets are abandoned as babies by their mother are mostly bigcats and monkies. they would die if they were not decent exotic pet owners to care for them and some are too far endangered to survive in the wild.
1988delighla 1 year ago
People have every right to have an exotic pet, as long as they know how to take care of them properly. Animal rights groups (which is very different from animal welfare) want ALL PETS to die out. Including pets like dogs and cats. We need to fight this for our right to keep our pets!

Most people shouldn't be allowed to have Kids. They still do and no-one does anything about it. If half of the kids were cared for as much as these loved exotics we wouldn't need as many foster homes.

HELPTHEHOMELESS32 1 year ago 3
You ban those animals from private ownership, and they'll end up in a gas chamber, I guarantee it.
And I'd be more worried about other people than the pet Tiger living next door.
Cuyameck 1 year ago 13
@Cuyameck
Think of all of the pet tigers in this world that live their lives in cages or pen areas. To have lived their life knowing nothing but a small enclosure. Tigers should be allowed to roam free, tigers should not be forced to suffer for the amusement of a selfish human being.
cdsplaya 1 year ago

LStrode7 1 year ago
@LStrode7
Well the chimp was agitated to begin with and angry and her friend was afraid of the chimp always and it sensed that and it took its anger out on her. It didnt attack her for no reason
xGingaWarriorx 1 year ago
@xGingaWarriorx .I never said it attacked her for no reason. The chimp was on Xanax at the time because it was given to him by his owner....he didnt recognize the lady he attacked because she had changed her appearance by changing her hair color and style.
LStrode7 1 year ago
@LStrode7 oh i never heard the part with the animal on xanax.... wonder why the lady did that..i dont think it would keep a chimp calm
xGingaWarriorx 1 year ago
@xGingaWarriorx .She stated on an interview i saw that she believed the chimp was agitated and she felt he "needed" xanax to calm down.I dont know how she knew that would help him..but look at the situation that occured shortly after giving him the drug.

Id like to own exotic animals, once i move out and everything i will probably get my first. If exotic pet keeping isnt banned by then anyways. I have already done alot of reserch. And have a taste of exotic ownership with a few reptiles. Which require more specialised care then people realise same with exotic pets.
TheSolaceDream 1 year ago
I completely agree with the video. You should have the right to own any animal, as long as they're being taken care of and not endangered. (Yes I'm against owning a wolf unless you're breeding them)
Douma93 1 year ago
My family found a hurt coyote pup in our neighborhood and lured it to our backyard to keep it safe. I stayed at the house and my grandma left to go find out if there was anything we could do without it being put down. I was outside with it and my neighbors still called animal control and it was put down because they said we made it our pet.

Wolfyy23, try visiting a site like the Feline Conservation Federation website. There, you can learn all about hwat it takes to care for an exotic cat. A lot of hard work, likely expensive, likely legal hassles, but the love that comes back in return is priceless!
timbalionguy 1 year ago 2
Dude how do people get those clouded cat things I want one idk if one WOULD get along with my two barn cats but you know I love these wild animals ^^
Wolfyy23 1 year ago
Lovely video. People seem to forget that most owners love their pets regardless of what they are, and if an animal is going to be abused it wont be because of its species (there needs to be more focus on rescuing abused animals of any species!) If an exotic has an owner that loves them and they belong to a family then removing them is cruel. To many animals social structure is vitaly important, to tear them out of their pack is nothing less than a form of torture and must stop :(

How do you know that to be the case? Have you ever worked with big cats? Any animals? Yes, non-domestic animals may have stronger natural instincts. But then, they also build stronger bonds with their human friends.
timbalionguy 1 year ago
Animals right people are retarded, and so are people that try to make wild animals pets! YOU CAN NEVER FULLY DOMISTICATE A WILD ANIMAL. im sorry you cant take away there natural instincts! IT WRONG!!!
Taintedlove469smr 1 year ago
Um, what about wolves, cats, horses etc? They were all once wild animals? Domestication is possible with most animals I would say, it just takes a few generations of selective breeding and getting the species used to (and trusting of) people.
dadeskr 1 year ago
sorry read 'dogs' for 'wolves' :)
All animals that people keep were wild once or are related to wild animals.

Taintedlove469smr - "... YOU CAN NEVER FULLY DOMISTICATE A WILD ANIMAL..."
Do you think you can take the insticts away from even a domestic cat? They make wonderful pets, regardless.
There are several wild cat species that you wouldn't be able to tell they are wild.
When it's cold and raining outside, in my home is exactly where many would choose to be.
NO animal is ever fully domesticated. Not even YOU.
psycotria 1 year ago
"... im sorry you cant take away there natural instincts! ..."
That's why they're so lovable! A real animal lover learns and accomodates his pet's instincts.
BTW, You're not SORRY, you're a JUDGEMENTAL ASSHOLE!
Please never own a pet, because I'm certain you would abandon it the moment it interfered with your selfish goals.
If I want to care for a rhino, and have the wherewithal to do so, I should be able to. I'm sure it would be very happy.
If you don't want one, don't get one.

lmfao i find the animal rights ppl to be retarded.
theres countries that kill these beautiful creatures for religious reasons and they dont worry then, but if u raise an animal in a loving environment and care for it ur a bad person...chances are they would of been killed iin the wild by some douchebag and these ppl care enuff to help the species...
shame on the animal rights foundation
TheTrippinhard 1 year ago
like the video above says, the laws change unpredictably, who would really want to risk that? Propaganda works on both side too, this is the nice side of exotic pets, make people believe it's all nice and hunky dory. Make a video of where every single animal in that video came from, how it was transported, how its parents delt with the stress and grief, how many die in transport and i might change my mind.
ca55ie89 1 year ago
You are believing the lies being put forth by the major animal rights groups. They absolutely HATE loving relationships between animals and people. All animals, but especially exotic animals build deep bonds with the humans that care for them. The animals benefit from the relationship as much as the humans. And considering how little wild habitat is left, captive husbandry by caring people is the ONLY thing that will save these animals for posterity.
timbalionguy 1 year ago
Keeping 1 big cat is not helping save the species. keeping male and female is. Most of these people keep a solitary animal, which by the looks of things is a really amazing bond. I couldn't help noticing there was no photos of a pet exotic with young? surely for your arguements sake there should be if captive breeding is the only way to save these animals?!? If you want to bond with an animal get a dog! this is a selfish trade and seems to be just for show! p.s i'm not believing anybodies lies
ca55ie89 1 year ago
Most exotic cat people have more than one animal. Cubs are only around once in a while because they grow quickly and are placed with other owners. Because big cats breed so easily, most owners only breed their animals once or twice in their lives. The responsible owners do not wantonly breed their animals, and they try to breed them such that genetic diversity is maintained. As far as bonding, I have a God-given right to bond with the animals that best suit me, and in my case is it big cats.
timbalionguy 1 year ago
@ca55ie89 -"... Make a video of where every single animal in that video came from ..."
Nice straw man you've built, but usually not the case here in the US. Most exotic pets are raise right here. Every rare cat born, is another one alive in the world.
Until humanity abandons a great portion of this planet to wilderness and restores it as such, wild animals will continue to decline. All large animals not kept by people as pets or food will likely cease to exist.
Zoos CAN,T do it alone.
psycotria 1 year ago
How do people get these animals? If its a rescue case or something like that then fair enough but wanting a tiger, just because it's cool or whatever is sick! Alot of these animals would have been captured from the wild as young as possible then hand fed, there must be a high percentage of death in this trade. If you love snakes, big catsor whatever, travel the world to see them, donate money to charities to help protect them (carried on below)
ca55ie89 1 year ago
i would love 2 own a small big cat one day i agree
mattgruszeczka 1 year ago
Hell, if you can provide 100% of what the animal needs and I mean 100% like if you can provide at the VERY LEAST 1/2 acre of enclosed secured land that provides a good natural habitat for them and that mimicks their natural habitat then sure you can have an exotic pet. If the animal is cared for and isn't forced into unatural habitats then sure you can have an exotic pet. If the animal is fed a proper diet of what it would in the wild, sure you can have an exotic pet.
ReinaEquina 1 year ago

Nathaniel3040 2 years ago
And can you explain to me why you believe this (that exotic animals belong in the wild)?
timbalionguy 2 years ago 3
Stop pretending your opinion is a fact. Saying exotic pets belong in the wild is like me saying white people belong in Europe or wherever they came from, or dogs should be only working animals and not pets because they maul and kill people sometimes. Its an opinion, not a fact.
Fleefles 2 years ago 5
Possibily retarded but not as much as you! Bottom line is animals are unpredictable and when was the last time you heard of a dog mauling someone? No, you haven't that's because they don't unless they're protecting their owners or they've been abused. Horses and cattle will not attack unless you give them a REASON too. I work with them everyday so don't give me that! You can NEVER tame the killer instinct out of a lion and tiger!
Kbyusxie 2 years ago
@Kbyusxie - "... when was the last time you heard of a dog mauling someone ..."
Domestic dogs maul and KILL 20 people per year in the US alone.
Over the last 20 years, the average death rate due to big cats is about 1 per year, the owner or worker, half occuring in zoosx.
Tigers are news, dogs aren't. Blame FOX News or CNN for that.
Go to REXANO's site for a comprehensive breakdown of causes of death in this country. Dot ORG.
psycotria 1 year ago
@Kbyusxie actually lions and tiger attacks happen less than most domesticated attacks do and if they do attack it is usually for the same reasons a domesticated dog will. Also did you know that in the last year 30people have died from a dog attack and over 100 have been very hurt where as compared to the three or 4 that wild animals kill. I know this as i work with animals and special breeders to help grow the populations.
smile4680 1 year ago
@Fleefles You have seemed to have tricked yourself into thinking that what you said actually made sense. Animals, just like human beings, belong in their natural environments. You would have to be an extremely selfish person to confine a majestic animal like a lion or tiger to a cage in your backyard simply because you can. I guess that is what this world has come to today....

large, and not so large, exotic animals require a much space to run around in.
Rarez2 2 years ago
Hmm.. where to start.

You can dominate a mastiff, but not adult primates or big cats.
tmhteacher 2 years ago 3
It should be on a case by case basis. I have rescued animals for yrs & most people could not handle big cats and primates. All animals deserve protection & exotics should not be removed if safely cared for. Problem is the exploiters who convince the uneducated that a chimp or a tiger is a good pet. Most cannot provide the physical and mental needs of these animals. Whether it be a poodle, pitbull, or puma, pets need protection. I am not for automatic removal of exotics, just strict guides.
