  • Lunatics anyway. They all washed their clothes in pee pee.

  • thats about the only good thing he has done in his worthless life . . , . :LOL

  • OMG Yes! Heh heh, I like the part where he screamed "Well?!" and everyone was forced to clap. XD He's so angry, but he's sexy when he's angry. :) And insane. Actually, all the time, but more so during these times. ^.^

  • @Clueless89 XD I love the super exaggerated pout just before he screamed too. It was soooo adorable!

    -^_^-

  • look at my horse, my horse is amazing, give it a seat in senate...

  • When I saw the feet going all I could think of was, The Drums~

  • Oh, i love it when he plays insane! :D

  • wait? I thought he made the horse a consul, not a senator? or did i just get it mixed up?

  • @He101A this monster came from hell

god bless all us from evil creatures

  • where i can find this movie plzz

  • @paisabombom2133

amazon.co.uk. It's a region 2 DVD so if you're in the States you'll need a region-free DVD player (around $100). The only good scenes are the ones with Simm in them.

  • he was nuts LMAO a HORSE LIKE A SENATOR LOL

  • He's only doing this so he can get back to Britanniae with the help of the pretty Senator's daughter who he kind of fancies (and she him), but he's got to pass some laws first...

    Oh, sorry, got confused.

  • Caligula lived by one motto: 'Let them hate me, as long as they fear me!" the Roman people did both.

  • @HistoryLover1550 oderint dum metuant indeed ^-^

  • @HexReinette Grizzly motto for a mad man.

  • Funny, but I saw him play Caligula in a documentary too.

  • @borgduck

What's the name of the documentary?

  • naming his horse as a senator, it showed that Gaius Augustus Caligula despised the senate, and this was a way to insult them. they only clapped because they were afraid.

  • @imperatorcaesar100

There is in my knowledge only one remark that he planned to appoint a horse a consul.

But it is, as you said, most likely that Gaius just wanted to show his "special respect" for the institution of the republic.

  • SUCH fun. What larks they had in good ol' Ancient Rome.

I love this crazy performance, reminds me of Alan Rickman as a baddie

  • ..Lol, imagine a debate.

Senator: We are thinking of increasing taxes, what do you think?

    Horse: *neighs*

    Senator (Opposition): Excellent suggestion!

    (COULD NOT RESIST! <P)

  • Fabulous! So much win! :'D

  • Caligula didn't do this because he was insane, he just hated the senate THAT much.

  • The horse is a toclafane in disguise!!XP

    (Lol!! Jk)^_^

  • I love that this is just about the only scene in the film which is historically accurate.

Also, John Simm as Caligula is made of win. It's so the Master poncing around in Ancient Rome, making an insane pest of himself, visiting exotic brothels and killing people. Rofl..

  • @smeagolita And I love how even this scene, while often repeated, is not historically accurate either. Because of the sheer hatred the senate had for Caligula, combined with the fact the only them wrote histories, Caligula's "injury" to them might have been that he wanted a greater share of governance(see Domitian). Caligula WAS unconventional by contemporary standards, but was he insane? Probably not.

  • @oer6000 On the other hand, other rulers had pissed them off without being described as insane later.

  • @smeagolita Oh yes! Perfection here.

  • He wasn't really mad. He delighted in mocking the senate and the nobility. When he was murdered, there were riots throughout Rome.

  • The senators are gutless and the way ian richardson and claudius keep looking at each other with that "yeah I know he's bonkers but what can we do look"...

  • Man, they should have assassinated Caligula much sooner. I'm surprised that he lived as emperor for as long as he did.

  • Reminds me of South Park... putting a rabbit as the head of the Catholic Church.

Mr Rabbit, what should be the church policy on gay marriage be? ...... hes not saying anything? .... exactly

  • Hehehe, I watched that movie just for him. And I love that pout of his lol

  • The bit about the horse being made Senator is true to what happened. And his role does have a touch of the Master about him being mad and all that!

  • LOL. Why do I find this so adorable?

":D Let the work of government...BEGIN!"

  • John Simm does a near perfect portrayal of Caligula in my opinion. Lol at the Senate's faces when Caligula announces his horse as Senator of Rome

  • rome was doomed when they killed julius ceaser. they wound up getting a dictator which was exactly what they did not want in the first place.

the saying once said that if one does not learn from history it is bound to repeat its self and that is what did the roman empire in.

that and while agustus was declared a good ruler his flaw was never having an heir and also securing issues that future emperors had to face.

  • We don't have a horse in senate, but we sure do have lots of jackasses lol

  • ha ha ha a good one

The US senate is full of them

  • imagine a refrigerator on horse back, a gift to Rome. finally they can save their leftover food in the magic cold box brand name Caligula.

  • Caligula.....was fucking nuts

  • What was with the accent? Did someone tell him this was a remake of 'Life of Brian'?

  • Well, what sort of accent did you want him to have? Leeds?

  • wow. Simm as another "evil" character. I love it! Delicious!

  • absolutely brilliant man. lmao, he is my hero!

  • do you mean calligua or the actor who portrays him

  • I think we should make a horse PM of GB..would do a lot better!

  • lol Caligula.

    Best. Emperor. EVER

  • Making a horse a senator...FUCKING STROKE OF GENIUS...LOVE CALIGULA

  • They missed the part where he dresses like acturl gods...he looks like his averday attrf

  • I never saw that movie,
