what a most beautiful love scene. are we still capable of love like this? I got this from my mother and fathers generation. Did we pass this to our children?
3:48 video: In 1936 musical film Rose-Marie, Sgt. Bruce (Nelson Eddy) tells Rose-Marie (Jeanette MacDonald; June 18, 1903 – January 14, 1965) the legend of the Indian Love Call; song begins at 1:47
Today is the birthday of Jeanette MacDonald (June 18, 1903 – January 14, 1965).
Sorry for my previous comment. Until you view the whole video in context, how can one person judge? Custard Cream seems appropriate. As an aside, I LOVE this scene.
@errolfan Hehe. I didn't think anyone would get it.. the pie thing is an obscure reference to a clip from an early 70s comedy show called "Hilarious House of Frightenstein", starring Billy Van who plays a character called "The Singing Soildier" that always gets a pie in the face every time he tries to sing this song.
after seeing her in San Francisco on a big screen this year, I totally get her, she was gorgeous, had amazing screen presence, naughty but nice and that voice....
I too just love Nelson Eddy. Loved all his songs. Do you all agree that the classic actor's had a substance that the contemporary ones of today don't have? Love this song big time! Thank you so much
the great American Baritone Nelson Eddy, and the Meso-soprano Rise Stevens in the chocolate soldier, 1934, interested in films Eddy, Jeanette MacDonald and other great singers of the time can be written
Nelson was one of the most handsome classy men to ever appear on the screen. His charisma is timeless and he will always make every woman want to be held by him.
all of these jeannette macdonald and nelson eddy songs brings happy tears to my eyes...my father's voice sounded exactly like nelson eddy's voice...i miss you daddy so much and thank you for introducing me to great art..jackie trudel-lane
that was one of the most magically romantic scenes in all of movie making. the music, lyrics, the body language and chemistry of the two has never been surpassed in my humble opinion.
Nelson wasn`t wearing all that horrid pasty makeup in this scene which he was forced(he loathed the makeup) to wear throughout most of ROSE MARIE. Despite all the makeup, Nelson`s inner beauty always shined through in his voice, eyes, smile and facial expression. Lorraine
Never tire of watching their movies. Maytime is my favorite. Still cry in the end.
