This was shown on TV when I was first getting in to the Stooges, and I'm so glad I got to see this. It's the only live show I saw on TV with Ron Asheton.
I am of Madonna's generation and I recall when she first made an appearance thinking how dated and quaint she was. She was 'safe'. I was at the time a 'bright young thing' living in London and her styling was a year to eighteen months out of date. As far as I can tell she's been playing catch up ever since. Good on her, there are obviously folks who need their pop culture sanitized and familiar. I do objected to comparisons with Iggy Pop who was truly a one off original.
So angry over pop music ? Celebrity pop stars can and do get credit for songs when they merely change one word. I understand some folks get passionate about their favourite stars. Whether she wrote Burning Up I couldnt care less, I never said she didnt.

Has no one never noticed she has released some pedestrian god-awful drivel over the years with the odd pop success keeping the career ticking over. I suspect those are probably her efforts while the hits are someone else's with her being given the credit . To compare a legend like Iggy with Madonna is ludicrous

The story goes that she asked them to do it because she was annoyed that they weren't inducted. Of course, once again, the Hall has managed to induct a band after a principal member is dead, when they had plenty of chances during his lifetime.
He's also got more energy than anyone, let alone for his age. Look up the stuff were Henry Rollins talks about trying to one up Iggy at live shows and losing every time. Cool, funny stories.
He did this as a protest - Madonna refused to sing her own songs because Iggy and the Stooges had been on the ballot 6 years in a row and didn't get in. She said that there's no way in hell she was performing on that stage as an inductee before the Stooges... so she had them do her songs for her!!!

The story goes that she asked them to do it because she was annoyed that they weren't inducted. Of course, once again, the Hall has managed to induct a band after a principal member is dead, when they had plenty of chances during his lifetime.

He did this as a protest - Madonna refused to sing her own songs because Iggy and the Stooges had been on the ballot 6 years in a row and didn't get in. She said that there's no way in hell she was performing on that stage as an inductee before the Stooges... so she had them do her songs for her!!!

I give Ig a pass because his first 3 albums made him a legend forever,..but seeing him in this is sickening. Waltzing around motionless assholes in tuxedos who never heard of him blows. The real Iggy would have dived onto the dining tables with orderbs martini glasses flying everywhere.

Wrong. 99 % of the diners in tuxedos DON'T know who he is, and I do know what I'm talking about. That's why he's not a charter member of any Hall of Famw, as he SHOULD be. They know him as the old shirtless guy, or from Norwegian Cruise soundtracks. I am as big a fan as any on this board, but you can be a fan without having to love everything he records. Ig will be the first to tell you that he has recorded some crap, and I know because I have many of his bootlegs. 'Burning Up' sucks. Period.

burning up was terrific, but it comes to ray of light I think its too much Iggy Pop style to it, I wont say he ruined it however but if u compare it to Natasha Bedingfiled´s cover, Iggy´s is a trahy one!!! Sill hes fun and did pay tribute to our beloved QUEEN!!!

Madonna wanted Iggy and The Stooges to play the R & R Hall of Fame, to protest the fact that they hadn't been inducted.
The band chose to repay her by covering a couple of her songs.
I think the originals were good compositions and I think the covers are quite good, as well.
All the rock and roll people looking down on pop music are really quite ignorant, because like it or not rock and pop have been spooning since the 1950s.

And Iggy is the living God when it comes to rock, and more importantly is the father of Punk Rock (which has become the major catalyst for all modern music). He is responsible for some of the most influential music on musicians that followed, and also widely regarded as the main influence for stage performance in music. And as for songs, go and buy Raw Power from the Stooges. That album has some true "pearls."

Pop is a child of ROCK&ROLL, BLUES ect. Every music genre is in one way or another a descendent of ROCK&ROLL. Music videos and Music wouldnt be what they are today if it wasnt for POP or its QUEEN. I hate madonna so much I wanna spit on her.I'm sad to see Iggy cover her songs in this so called"rock'n'roll hall of fame".BUT in a strange way,and mostly because of the stooges, I like both songs and I still hate Madonna she's just commercial crap to me.
For me this video is kinda symbolic for the death of good rock'n'roll (punk included) which has been replaced by some corporate shit, no danger,money everywhere and no fun anymore...Hopfully the underground scene keeps the spirit alive
