Bedford Ave. Bike lane Merge

this is the worst if you catch a green light and your being tailed by a bunch of trucks. i take this route everyday into long island city and its probably one of the most dangerous merges ive experienced

Imagine if everyone either rode a bicycle or walked. There wouldn't be people getting killed by traffic "accidents," drunk drivers, etc.. Who wouldn't rather be hit by a bicyclist or bumped into by a pedestrian than hit by an automobile? Automobiles kill & cripple so many people, including other auto drivers; they're deadly weapons.

They think it's a violation of their human rights to have to see people riding bicycles on the sabbath, or to see women who aren't "modestly" wrapped up in gunny sacks and wigs. It's exactly the same bullshit they try to pull int he Occupied Territories, where gangs of ultra-orthodox Jewish thugs patrol Palestinian shops, demanding that they close in observance of the Jewish sabbath; those who refuse are beaten and terrorized, and their shops are vandalized or torched.

Brazenturkey, you and I both know that the whining of the ultra-orthodox has nothing to do with safety concerns. It is, and has always been, purely about separatism. the ultra-orthodox demand that the city assist them in keeping non-Jews out of "their" neighborhoods. Oh, and if a bike T-bones your jacked up pick-up, the massive amount of damage to your truck could be fixed with a little spit and a terry cloth. We have become a world full of self pleasing people, at the cost of having a fulfilling life. I use to own and LOVE a nice mustang, after 4 years, I realized it owned me. As did the gas stations. Now I spend my 'fuel' money on what I love most, FOOD!!!! yummy!

@ShutUpH00ker I was riding the bike and take safety very seriously. As syddon mentioned I did wait for the light to turn Green. What does the bike lane removal have to do with cutting lights anyway?

I saw the video too and you went through a red light. Furthemore if you had been paying attention to media reports you would note that the Hasidic residents' objections to the bike lanes include the fact that bikers have been routinely ignoring traffic rules which is the concern of residents. I also notice that most bikers are flouting traffic rules and creating hazardous conditions which contribute to traffic problems. Bike lanes should all be removed and bike use restricted to parks.

We all pay taxes that build and maintain roads. Its supposed to be a free country, why do I HAVE to buy a car or bus ticket to get from one place to the next? The city should be a place for PEOPLE not machines. Its hard to enjoy life when the ground is nothing but cement and paint. (I'm a truck driver for a living and bike for life) Cars a trucks have there place, we just use car WAY too much. Also, I wouldn't say going ~4-5 mphs could be considered 'BLOWING' though anything.

@ShutUpH00ker the bike lane on this side of bedford was not removed. at this merge you have to cross on red because you have cars coming in behind you from your left and your right side of bedford (because the bike lane is in the center) then you also have 2 car lanes coming in from rogers merging onto bedford

@ShutUpH00ker AND wait it gets better you have cars turning onto bedford from dean. so before even thinking about waiting for the green light you have to avoid 5 possible collision points. come see for yourself
