But THE worst recorded live show I have ever seen. It looks like they attached cameras to dogs as they were running around the stage. If you watch the whole concert you will see all the bad editing and camera work.
I don't know why you've been thumbs-downed. I remember seeing this film, I agree it was badly recorded and with some staggeringly bad edits - including the 1st half of this very song.
These are the best vocals I have ever heard for this song off this live tour. So smooth. Better then studio. This is the music I grew up on and everything I love about music and playing music was influenced from this era of Genesis. Phil , you are my idol as a drummer and as a player. Duke was the first CD I ever owned. Simple as that. Thank you for everything you have done.

But I've got the solution: I played a cover of this song with my Genesis' cover band and I ve got the video in my profile. We made all the intro and we also joined it with "Duke's End".
yes why not just miss out all the best bits ev why why why man just put the whole lot on or forget it, well not for get it but i mean why. This song is just toooo gooood wish i saw them live back then. phill chester. wow
I hate with the bottom of my soul the person who edited this song 'cause he erased the intro and that's one of the best parts of this song. Just a sin!
Thompson auditioned for Frank Zappa, and quickly impressed the musical legend. Chester officially joined Frank Zappa and The Mothers of Invention in late September 1973. The Mothers had a reputation as an incredibly tight live act, and that reputation came with a price. Thompson would rehearse 40 hours per week for four to six weeks prior to each tour. The rigorous schedule along with the musical complexity of Zappa's music, proved to be more demanding than anything Thompson had done before.
At 2:15 when Chester hits the cymbals he goes to adjust a knob on something beside him and another cymbal sounds but of course you see him not hitting anything? Whats the dealio? I've never noticed that before.
I think the vid/music sync is a little off in this video, that explains the off time crash. Remember ,this was just a bit before digital editing really got going.....Still a great song ..lots of memories
This is a great song, and if you like this sort of upbeat sounding pop-rock from them, then rock on! But if you want some more very strong albums with Phil as the lead singer, try "Trick Of The Tail" and the live album "Seconds Out" - or with Gabriel as lead, try "Selling England By The Pound" and "Foxtrot" - They'll blow you away.
Kant reflected, at peace with himself, and ultimately contrived an architectonic of human reason. Nietzsche was quite different -- radically different. Reflection for Nietzsche was anything but calm -- and the reason may perhaps be fairly clear: Nietzsche found himself wrestling with the most profound enigmas of modern life.
"Duke", if I could only own one Genesis' album it would be "Duke"; oh come on, how many of us layed down on our living room carpets/floors and played this record. I remember opening it up and reading all the words and linear notes. It was Genesis' opus and journey that was so dream-like... I loved it!
You know I just saw them open up with this song this month (nice surprise) and was really amazed with how awesome they still sounded, and Phil's voice was still holding up! They are the best band, ever.
Duke, Wuthering and Trick of the Tail are each very distinctive albums that for some reason they decided after each one that they needed to do something completely differently.
Duke's Travels and Duke's End were a fitting sign off as far as their older work was concerned. Almost seems to say everything OTHER than "this is gone forever"
Great news indeed, I had to buy all my Genesis LP's postmortem so to say.
I wouldn't even care about the style, but a good mix between pop rock and a some more progressive stuff like Duke would be cool. They all have enough money I guess and they shouldn't have to worry about record sales.
Adrocker99: tour in north america in september and october, and then (according to Tony Banks in a recent interview) they will see for new material (the 3 of us are keen). So great nows from Tony but we'll see...
sort of a joke: me and my friends call anyone who is "uncool" a "Daryl" since that is a pretty uncool name. Likewise, this era of Genesis is so lame (with Daryl on guitar it is lame times three) and so the band as it is now.. without the most inspiring members (i.e. Hackett and Peeg) should just call itself Daryl.
FYI, he's playing BACKUP MUSIC. That means he's playing something already written. and the dude who wrote the guitar notes is Mike Rutherford, not Daryl. Altough Daryl was legendary in Phil's solo career.
I don't think that any guitar that Daryl plays can sound bad.
On this particular video Daryl is playing a very high end, Limited Edition Suntech SAMFSC Guitar which was introduced in the late 70's. Daryl had Giffin Guitars of England beef it up at a later date. I added Daryl's Suntech guitar to my collection when he traded it to me for a Kramer Pacer Carrera on 6/22/1984. If you want any more info on the guitar, feel free to contact me.
Chester on drums is the man. Saw them live at Old Trafford 2007. Nought said. Simply awesome. Go see them if you can. This song booming around the stadium was heaven!
Just shows what an incredible live vocalist Collins was around this period. This was the tour where he really came out of his shell - although the Duke tour was damn fine too (check out the DVD extras from the Duke remaster).
No new material? :( Man, I have been a Genesis fan since 1979, I wish that Mike, Tony and Phil would come out with some new stuff. Phils latest solo stuff is OK, But I miss Genesis!
Thanks InTheAir77 for sharing this, love the song, love the group, pity it couldnt be followed thru with duchess, the instrumental between the two songs is classic
