An easier way to beat this boss is to use Soul Surge after the first counter and then just keep doing Perfect Hits. It's how I beat Merlina in under a minute, You won't have to dodge as much, and you won't have to retreat and build up the Soul Gauge again.
True, the sword won't glow when you face Merlina or King Arthur, but I guess it's because I've fought her enough times to practice the technique. So, I guess it really depends on if you can time perfect hits well in this battle, which may take a few tries to get it down well.

I know that would that will never happen, but think about it 2 sonics in the same story fighting Eggman Comic book style! It wouldn't last long since the comics are very short compared 1001 nights and Arthurian Legends.
I was also thinking Mephiles should be Hades, (Solaris was blown out before Mephiles and Iblis came to be, so Mephiles is technically dead) and that Silver should be Zeus.
Nah, Rouge would definately be Aphrodite. Tails would fit more into Hermes, but Knuckles would definately be Ares. And Shadow would fit perfectly into the role of Hades!

There is a way to do this faster with perfect strikes... it goes from 3-stages to 1 if you double the soul gauge.
