  • Yes i agree that john french is a great rider, but the ducking does bug me sometimes. I was just at a horse show in cali that he was also at, and he sped up to an incredibly long distance to the first jump in the derby. He leaned way forward and dropped the horse, and the horse ran out, sending john into the jump.

  • While I completely respect the fact that this man is a champion rider, I hate the ducking. -.-

  • @NaomiBrutality He does that so the horse can round up and jump it's best.

  • I could watch this horse alll day long.

  • I want :)

  • I do not know the mare that Rumba is out of, but his sire is Carano. Sadly Carano passed a couple of years ago, but he did leave other sons. Chianto, a grand prix jumper, is one example.

  • This sounds silly but can someone explain to me what the Hunter Derby is, compared to jumpers and such.

  • What breed of horse is Rumba? He is such an amazing mover!!

  • The horse is beautiful and a great rider! But I think the release needs work and he looks like he is leaning on the horses neck a little to much. but great horse and great ride!

  • @Eamloo I'm pretty sure John French knows what he's doing. A release doesn't need to be to a horse's ears for it to be effective. His release is more than adequate, please notice the slack in the reins over each fence. His "leaning", as you called it, though he's obviously very balanced and not using the horses neck to do so, is the hunter style of staying out of the horse's way as much as possible to better show them off. Hunter's is about the horse, not the rider.

  • that horse is not trotting. he is floating.

  • Gah, he's perfect.

  • GOOD GOD. This horse is a beast! I'm usually oriented around Arabian hunters, and I typically hate when horses have their noses sticking out a foot in front of the vertical, but... WOW. Even with myself just getting into the hobby of following hunters, this is... holy cow. I don't even know what to say.

  • what a fricken beast.

  • Eventers eat hunter jumpers for breakfast!

  • @eventingwithjohni you're kidding me? You see a video of one of the most respected and awesomest hunter riders and all you ahve to say is that? I'm not coming at your neck, i love eventing,a nd it has nothing to do with what's a better sport in the hrose world, but that's just a bit rude, joke or not.

  • @xXkeyotaXx *horse *have

  • I hate John French...

  • this horse is so amazing, but i CAN NOT stand how this guy leans at every single jump

  • @kelserini13 im pretty sure he knows what hes doing...

  • This horse looks like he was just having a ball out there!! Seemed to just float around that course.

  • This horse looks like he was just having a ball out there!!

  • This horse looks like he was just having a ball out there!!

  • Rumba is absolutely amazing. He is the textbook definition of a hunter.

John French, on the other hand... well... you can see how his equitation affects Rumba. 4:07 Rumba shakes his head in discomfort after John slams on his back during the landing. I respect a rider of this caliber, but I also am a follower of the "George Morris style of riding." The purpose of good eq. is not just to look pretty, it is to allow the horse to perform at its best without the restriction of the rider.

  • @SilverStirrupProd well since you're a follower of the "george morris style of riding" i think you should know that george morris himself was a judge in this class and he had ranked them first out of all the top hunters in the country. john's ride allowed the horse to preform at its best. he was soft, quiet and worked WITH the horse and they really trusted each other which allowed the horses talent and athleticism to really shine. i suggest being more educated before criticizing a professional

  • @SilverStirrupProd, I really think that Rumba wasn't uncomfortable. It was a HUGE distance to a HUGE jump and I think everyone's leg would have slipped a little to that distance and Rumba just got a lil tickle from the spur and he was reacting to that, not discomfort. If Rumba was truly uncomfortable, he would have reacted way worse than just a little head toss. He was just telling us "hey, that was a long distance and I'm enjoying myself big time!" John French is an amazing rider, amazing eq

  • amazing horse. has incredible style. fantastic pair. period.

  • This horse....is absolutely incredible.

His trot basically made me drool.

And @takeapicturetrick who do you think you are?

  • I love watching amazing hunters, it gives me chills! He is an amazing horse, and John French rode him to incredible distances, even when Rumba changed up the pace a bit! His riding style is utalized to show off Rumba, so that the judge can fully appreciate the jumping style of the horse. Rumba is so...well words cannot describe! He is so incredible and awesome and wow...just wow.

  • this horse is absolutely stunning.

  • Amazing

  • honestly horses this amazing are rarely ever created..

  • Its amusing how people think that John French needs some lessons.... LOL - Just shows how little some people know. Love this horse! I believe he is up in Canada now a junior down the road bought him....

  • this horses trot makes me happy

  • how much is this horse?? ik its a ton... but just curious

  • OMG!! The trot out of the ring is SOOO Amazing!

  • Such a beautiful expression on top of everything else. He still is like that with his current owner, Destry Spielberg, though not ridden quite as masterfully as John French. Clearly you'd have to be from Hollywood royalty to afford this animal -- haha. Beautiful at every gate, scopey, relaxed -- the whole package!

  • ok.. that horse seriously floats.

  • Nice horse ... Rider needs a few lessons tho, good god.

  • @takeapicturetrick John French is one of the most respected riders in the horse world. I do not think he needs a few lessons.

  • @EqMedalRider

No one stops learning unless they decide they know it all. ;)

  • @takeapicturetrick um...what? He just won the 100k classic........

  • Two people wouldn't know a good hunter if it bit them

  • this horse is amazing

  • I could watch this horse trot all day long and never become bored.....

  • @KarlyyMiracle Yes, I have. I owned/trained my own horse up to 3'6" as a hunter and eq horse, and he jumped every bit as round as that. However, I had a coach that emphasized the George Morris form of teaching, and that is the style of riding that I most prefer to see and appreciate. This style of riding is incredibly prevalent in the show ring, but incorrect and overly showy, in my opinion. It's just a personal preference

  • @actsix i also was taught the george morris style. but what exactly would you call this style?

  • 1:25 and 1:37 <33333

  • Rhumba puts all other horses to shame with his movement and athleticism. I want him.

  • o.m.g.... who is this horse's father and mother??? if i cant have him, i want his full brother/sister....

  • Comment removed

  • this is my horse

    LOL JK IN MY DREAMS

  • this horse has all of it. every single speck of talent. amazing rides. congrats

  • i want this horse.

if i were rich, you could not stop me from spending every cent i had to buy him

  • I ride horses myself, and remembering a course that long would just flip me out

  • a truly stunning animal. this horse is amazing. Rumba is one of the best movers i have ever seen. and Mr.French and that horse form together as one and are both incredible. good ride!

  • Wow, not often that you see a horse with that outline, head carriage, and balance in a single-rein bit anymore, no one takes the time to train that! Lovely horse, great rider, fantastic round!

  • wow, thats perfection

  • WOW is all I have to say. I have never heard of a perfect score before but he deserved it :D

  • THEY SHOULD SO HAVE HUNTERS IN THE OLYMPICS!!

  • @8rgirl I COMPLETELY AGREE!!!

  • THE. MOST. GORGEOUS. HORSE. EVER! They both deserve blue! not to seem random but... little spook at 6:24 ;)

  • That horse is absolutely gorgeous! He's perfectly tucked over fences and a smooth flowing canter and a luxury trot like a Cadillac! I'm amazed!!!(:

  • John and Rumba make it all look so easy!

  • This horse is stunning. Though since I am all about Eq I don't like how he slouches but who am I too say. I don't do Hunters. I do jumpers and hopefully Eq soon. They are a great pair!!!

  • @OTTBloverMEGAN Agreed, I can't STAND how this guy rides. There is a hilarious blooper video floating around where you can watch him come off... not all horses are quite so willing to go when you get ahead of their motion all the time!

  • I bet when you're riding him it feels like you're soaring through the sky on a winged horse to the gates of heaven.

  • is it just me or do all guy riders all slouch over when they ride? great horse, but i think there were probably riders there with a bit better equitation

  • @PNYJUMPERproductions Probably, but this is hunters, not equitation, isn't it? I am pretty sure.

  • @JumpAndRein yes, it is. but a good rider always makes a horse look better :)

  • @PNYJUMPERproductions I completly agree with you :)

  • i'd die if my horse could trot like that...let alone jump!

  • he looks like hes floating on a cloud . . . ahhhh

im gonna train a horse to be like that if its the last thing i do

  • i think the name rumba suits him - he just looks very "rumba" lol

  • yes, this horse is absolutely amazing.

but John French is utter bullshit. Is a giving elbow and NOT jumping ahead/ducking to much to ask for in modern hunters?

    jesus christ.

  • @actsix uhhum, did u just diss THE 100k DERBY WINNER? id watch ur mouth if i were u. ID LIKE TO SEE U TRY TO RIDE BETTER THAN HIM! if ur gonna sit on the computer talk like that about him u must have ABSOLUTELY NO LIFE.

  • @actsix have you ever ridden a big hunter derby? do you understand how HARD it is to stay with a horse that jumps that well?

  • oh my lord. look at him move. what an amazing athlete!

  • @qgriffiths lmao its a horse not an athlete...silly duck

  • @goodeyesniper14 wrong they work just as hard as any rider

  • @Echogirlrider my point exactly ! he IS AN ATHLETE. look at him.

  • sucks hes a gelding cause he moves like a beast

  • That trot had goosebumps along my arms and my adrenaline running. Totally jealous.

  • WOULD SELL EVERYTHING I OWN FOR HIM!!

  • I would sell my house and live in the barn to have that horse. lol

  • Wow!!!!!!!What a good boy! I hope he gets a bag full of carrots! That trot is to dies for! His jump super cute! I love how he carries his head! I don't think his head is rounded as far as I can tell. I actually thinking about buying a greenie for a lot less then he is with that movement and head set. Maybe but that hose kicks butt!

  • I heard somewhere he was sold for 400k for people who were asking. EVEN though it doesn't matter. This horse is utterly gorgeous.

  • @shortnotice101 this horse was sold for around 9 million to steven speilbergs daughter hahah

  • @thebluebot I heard 1.2 M. It doesn't matter either way this horse is amazing

  • @HunterJumperz22 way more than 1.2

    just sayin

  • @thebluebot I think that sounds about right. It definitely isn't 9 million for a horse, not even grand prix horses would go for that much all the time.

  • Omg Hes like a dream horse <3

  • More than a year -- and many, many viewings later -- I still get a thrill when I watch these rounds. Amazing.... And I agree -- the trot is jaw-dropping!

  • this horse moves so amazingly it's kind of creepy. xD

  • Rumba is the perfect hunter. He has such a stunning ring presence and he floats around the course. He has a beautiful expression. On a scale of 1-10 his movement is a 100 and his form is round and he is perfectly clean with his front and hind end.

John French did a fantastic job piloting this extremely talented horse.

  • he is GORGEOUSSS!!!! such beautiful rounds! does anyone know how tall he is!?:)

  • ik! i this horse moves soo goodd especilly trot! omg i want it! lol

  • anyone know why the crowd sighed at :55 ? it seemed like a fine jump from what I can tell

  • @zippypony10 Do you see how John jumps kind off on the left side of Rumba's neck? He's asking the horse to land on the right lead. The reason that they sighed is because he landed on the left lead and he might have gotten some points docked for that.

  • @BriSwagger oh ok thanks! Good to know. Glad he still one, that round was beyond impressive.

  • @zippypony10 It was an amazing round wasn't it!

  • he really does have the nicest trot ever.

  • wow.

  • This is what a real HUNTER looks like!!!

  • whats his breeding

  • AWSOM AWSOME AWSOME

  • this horse is absolutely perfect<3

  • This horse is beautiful. That trot is to die for. <3

  • that is the most nicest horse ive EVER seen . LOOK AT ITS TROT!!

  • I love how everyone sighs as he jumps. Well ridden by John French. =)

  • wow wow wow wow wow wow.

his trot makes me want to cry :')

  • I love Rumba. Beautifully trained!

  • I mean, really.... wow. I'm 55 years old.... I've been riding and watching hunters jump around courses for 50 years..... this horse isn't just brilliant and athletic and beautifully trained..... he's like the Hope Diamond of show horses. If I had 5 million dollars to spend on a horse, and the Horse-Gods said I could buy this horse.... I'd hurt myself trying to get my checkbook out fast enough. You can't breed or train or find horses like this one.... he's pretty darn close to perfect. PERIOD.

  • That is the most beautiful hunter horse I have ever seen. I am so jealous. Wow.

  • I know its just a hunter derby I was just saying. The horse is beautiful and he did a great job with the horse.

  • that thing is the cutest thing everrr.

i want it. and my horse has that trot too which is nice. but still. dayummmmm

also that guy rides nice for a guy

  • my dream horse

  • @shybry13 yes! i show there every year!

  • horrible eq but amazing horse and amazing rounds. Congrats to the both of you

  • @WishfulThinking711 this is hunter not eq?

  • @WishfulThinking711

This is the Hunter Derby. Therefore, the judge looks at the horse ONLY. Thus, the rider does everything in his power to make the horse look it's best. Isn't it better that he makes sure his release is perfect than if his heels are down?

  • @WishfulThinking711 he is a hunter rider. of course he doesnt have perfect eq. so shut up and stop talking shit about his eq because you arent even close to half the rider he is.

  • i like in the first round how every time rumba jumps you can hear the audience say "whoa"

  • that horse can jump!

  • So I pretty much got chills. Rumba's got such fluid movement and John French is amazing.

  • Could this horse be any more gorgeous? It's kind of ridiculous how perfect he is...

  • amazing rounds! just fell in love with this horse! well deserved blue ribbons!

  • What an a.m.a.z.i.n.g horse!! love it

  • prettyprettyprettyyyyy horse <3

i dont like how the rider ducks but hey its not an eq round and it obviously worked for them :)

  • @cheepooluvr Haha! Its John French... Thats what he's known for ;)

  • wow you are one amazing rider and a great horse

  • I love this pair. What an amazing duo!

  • What an absolutely exquisite animal - Lovely lovely mover, fabulous jumper and completely in tune with the rider.-- willing and wants to please. Once in a lifetime horse. No amount of money would have been too much!!! I could die happy if I owned this wonderful horse!!

  • *drool*

  • lovely mare!

if i had the money, i would buy her, shes just beautiful!

    amazing stride, jump and attitude!

John French is an amazing man. amazing coach!

my coach's little brother went down to california to ride and show some of John's horses, and John taught him the 'big boy' ropes! haha.

  • @xxChickiie

    sorry, him *

    gelding. aha

  • @xxChickiie llolz. this is a gelding.

  • fabulous ride fabulous horse

if only my dad was a famous hollywood director :P.. if only

  • wonderful horse. so jealous XD. ;) congrats! he was very good.

  • what a lovely horse! he seemed to have enjoyed this ride lol. great rider to.

  • ya 2 million..i think that's insane!!

  • OH MY GOD WHAT A LOVELY CREATURE! This horse is sooo beautiful! His little ears forward when he sees the jumps. Aww, such quality!

  • Wow, nice horse.

  • yeah I knew that thank you yeah I was just wondering like yeah how exactly much but thanks :-D yeah Im sure it was ALOT.

  • i dont care so much for the rider but wow the horse is beautiful!

  • i heard like 2 million

  • so, uh, i want that horse.

    a lot.

it kind of hurts my eyes to watch a horse that nice,

and then my head hurts because i know i can't have him...

  • The hunters should be required to compete in a setting that resembles that of a hunt...grass, hills, water, trees...but with more finesse and safety than cross country riding. Then the term "hunter" would be more appropriate.

  • i totally agree. they used to do that a little more a number of years ago, but not much at all anymore. if you were to take most hunters out into an actual hunt field they wouldnt know how to handle it.

  • @L1v3LaughL0v3R1d3 i agreee 100%

  • Maybe if you go and build one for every horse show out there then they will. Think of the cost to build and maintain that type of hunter field.

  • Was He really sold for how much does anyone know???

  • god i love him

  • fucking breathtaking.

  • he just floats across the ground... if you put a metronome next to the screen he wouldn't miss a beat!

  • Ya! The horse world is VERY expensive if you have the right horses, training, and equipment.

  • he is my favorite hunter. destry is so lucky to have him now.

  • i love this horse.!

  • i want this horse

  • that is like my dream horse! he has all the right assets:

    -color

    -size

    -conformation

    -movement

    -demeneor

    -style

haha basically perfection right there :)

  • that horse is priceless... gorgeous :)

  • I love Rumba's happy attitude and John French really knows how to present a horse!! THes two put in such a lovely round!

  • he sold for 875k to steven spielberg's daughter

  • you have to be kidding me

  • pirates of the carrabiean music theme at the end. ahaha

  • I ride alot at the big shows, and i've heard from over 10 people that he sold for 895k

  • i mean who really cares about the amount this horse sold for? i mean look at him! hes absolute perfection! whatever the number is, it was probably very high to match this wonderful animal.
