  • Sounds great!!! That's close to the sound I'm trying to get out of my Warmoth build. What strings are you using?

  • just ordered a rhodes flying v body which is poplar and i dont want to go through the trouble of getting the maple top veneer for it lol i want to do a dragonburst finish on it with blue and dark green stain just wondering from your experiance staining poplar if it would be good or more trouble than its worth

  • @blarghonk123

Hi Blar.. I dont have any problem staining the POPLAR wood. But just to remind you once you have stained ur guitar there is no turning back. Poplar wood will absorb the stain very well. But remember to apply the stain evenly and do not rush it. You can do sunbusrt by staining, that is my initial plan. I suggest you do Yellow Amber, Dark brown on the edge lighter brown in between. It will be asy to apply the sunburst effect if you will apply it by hand. All the best cheers!

  • @ardie1268 thank you :)

  • Man, I really like that deep brown finish. Did you just give it a few coats of walnut stain, then rub it out with a few coats of tung oil? Check out my SRV strat build.

  • @skippy3840

Just a few coats coz the wood grain of this Poplar was to plain and clear.. Its absorb the oil stain very good and evenly. i rub it down with TUNG oil..rub a several coats first to thicken the layer of the Tung oil. Once you have enough thickness then sand it between coats let it dry then repeat the same process.. Finish it by hand buffing to shine with any Plastic/Auto polishing wax.

  • Ardie, nice video and the guitar looks great. How long did it take you to build it, and what was the total cost? Nice guitar playing also.

  • @guitarkitbuilder

All parts I order from Warmoth.. I can assemble the guitar in 1 week time.. the only time consuming is the preparation for staining of the body plus the Tung Oil application. I can say if I have all parts with takes about 3 weeks.. In the case of Body and Neck are with Finish Parts in 3 days I can assemble + wiring+ setup.. if you are interested you can check out my Post at Warmoth search for user name ARDIE.. cheers!
