In the USSR gun ownership was legal and you had even guns for hunting during the 80's!!! Yes, there was gun control in the USSR that started with Khrushchov "Desalinization". BTW, USA had gun control against black people since 1915, and while black people were repressed in the USA, by 1935 Moscow had its first black mayor! So communism has less gun control than capitalist countries. In Albania or Korea workers had (and in Korea still have) guns in the factories and peasants in the fields

Gun control you limit the amount they can posses, I can't go out and buy a bazooka and the ammo, and I should be able to buy a gun that is issued to an army or an Ak-47. Also while I see the need to posses a small firearm for protection and maybe a few rifles for sport and hunting a complete ban on guns is just irrational, more so than banning guns completely.

@aallppiinnee, you are an very poorly informed. While i have significant differences with Maoists, they have a very good record on when it comes to an armed population. Like in revolutionary China, contemporary Maoists in India and the Phillippines strongly encourage gun ownership.

My uncle also told me before about him and his father hunting in USSR and he told they DID own guns there, only you didn't need to have a military-grade assault rifle for home protection or just hunting. In case the people needed rifles, he said USSR could easily provides tons of AKs ("Since they are cheap and easy to make" - according to him)

From what I heard and what I saw, I think you are right, and Mao not only gave guns to people, he also trained them to use guns and organized them into militias, there are many photos and posters with people carrying guns. Most of the time laws and regulations were ignored by people in China, they did what they want to do, especially in rural areas.

@BuecherFuerAlle Yes and no, officially the KMT and CPC did ally to resist the Japanese however the two distrusted each other heavily (there last alliance ended in betrayal by KMT) and operated separately. Most of the opposition to Japan was lead by the Chinese and Korean Communists in the North whilst the KMT who had modern equioment given to them by the USA focussed on crushing internal dissent. After WW2 many areas of Japanese control fell into the hands of the CPC as a result.
