  • I didn't see a license plate on there. Is it not needed? I would think you would get pulled over a lot.

  • smart dude! I like it and like the looks of it!

  • what happens when it rains?

  • @vagabond791 also i looked at the website for the lifan, and nowhere does it say that it doesn't come without a motor

  • @vagabond791 you get wet

  • So if you get into a wreck, or hit by a car you get battery acid all over you. Post the pics when that happens.

  • @cobrachoppergirl

I totally agree. Riding around with litres of sulphuric acid just beneath you in plastic boxes sounds like a stupid idea. That's why the pro electric bike manufacturers dont use lead acid batteries (well that and the weight), as any kind of crash will release highly dangerous material onto the rider and / or anyone else!!

  • @cobrachoppergirl I've seen live fuel end up over bikers in accidents and a couple of other cases in times gone by of burnt legs from hot exhaust pipes. Yes, I'm a biker.

Years ago I let the attendant put my screw top tank filler back on my bike as I was getting the money out. Applied brakes at the lights and fuel gushed out of the top and over the engine. I killed the ignition. I was lucky.

If this guy used SP-LP12V90AHA he will have 3x charge, half the weight and no acid.

  • excellent overview, thanks

  • I have a Mini 40 Mile Busettii bike and it runs 50-55 miles on one battery charge. I also tried my friends Vortex Mountain bike by Busettii. It ROCKS ! Can get up to 32 mph top speed, and on one charge that bike set the new record of 86 miles. Hope it becomes a big hit. In California many people like Busettii because they cost around $1700 but can go 50--86 miles on one charge depending on model. Maria in Cali

  • Why did you have to insulate the controller from the frame?

  • Very nice! Thanks for posting all this information!

  • Very Nice! Honda, Yamaha, Kawasaki & Suzuki are you listening? And others why are you not making something like this? and forget Hybrid that makes them prohibitively expensive. Anyone Home? Nice Job Lennon. You should do an update and let us know how it has lasted and your ideas for any improvements or regrets. You did a very neat and well thought out project. Thanks!

  • Excellent design and construction. Very neat & well thought out. Thanks for sharing. Perhaps you'll inspire many to build their own. Too bad U. S. manufacturers insist on adding a fuel burning engine to any electric power plant. The old G.M. EV1 was a great product. It's inspiring to see professionals like you follow-up with that kind of excellence.

  • Very cool! Nice work. I thought it might be fun to build one but with 0% finacing at Best Buy I bought a Brammo Electric Motorcycle that tops out at 65mph - lots of fun riding past the gas Stations!

  • So here we are at the PetroApocalpse, and if you want an electric vehicle made in the US you could buy a $110,000 Tesla or make it yourseld. Hmmm very few will be made as most people can't even turn a wrench nor know the differnce between ac and dc.

  • dude, you could pimp that thing with lithium cells. ur frame is nice and open, so it would be easy to fut them in. food for thought

  • Thanks for the detailed info. Very helpful for those of us just getting started.

  • better put some lithium bateries on a normal mountain bike use a 1000 watt motor at 48 v and ull spend more money on the bateries then on the bike and ull have at least dounble the range and better speed

  • Have you ever gone 30+ mph on a mountain bike? I race road bikes and even with a $2000 bike 30+mph is a very unsafe and nerve-racking speed. I would never want to go that fast on a mountain bike. This eMoto bike he has is much safer, but if you don't care about safety the mountain bike will be ok for you.

  • so u sayng the whole thing could fall apart like the welds???

  • A mountain bike can not take the amount of force that is being exerted on the frame on an every day basis. The bigger dilemma that youre looking at is what is absorbing the forces of the road on the bike? That would be the tires and rims; you will damage your rims and the inadequate suspension on a mountain bike. Also the bike can not support those speeds due to insufficient tires and suspension for maneuvering. You might be able to get away with it but it is VERY risky.

  • why does it have only one gear? can't it use a clutch and stuff?

  • That is very hard to do, lots of money would be put into something like that. Also, a great deal of research and building. A fix ratio bike is cheap to do.

  • what is the curb weight and what kind of acceleration (to 60mph, if it goes that fast)?

  • 290kg, and no it does not go 60mph, with a new gear set up yes but it would be very slow 10+ sec i would guess

  • Not only are you very smart and pay very close attention to detail, your what they call a gifted artist .Thanks for letting me know there's still people that can really make a difference in this world.

  • I want to buy one! As Bob Dylan said in "Sweet Marie," "I got a fever, down in my pockets, the Persian drunkard, he follows me."

  • A++!

  • HOW COOL IS THAT!!!

  • Hi

Really nice job on the bike! looks the business, great idea to carry the chargers you can then simply plug it in where ever you are.

A nice set of Life Batts would put your range up a little and knock a lot of weight off.

Would love to see some more video of it in action.

    Knoxie

  • why carry the chargers?

  • so when your stuck in the middle of nowhere all you need it an extension cord and outlet

  • Which motor are you using? It looks like a ETEK but I didnt think you could use regen with the ETEK. Really nice job!

  • Very nice job mate. So what's your range on the bike so far?
