The Constitution mandates government income to come from tariffs. Not from taxes on individual citizens. In the name of free trade The Fed has cut tariffs to about 1.3% but it's only free trade at the US border. The US pays very high tariffs when exporting. The US should charge the same tariff on imports as the country it exports to. That's a level playing field. A national sales tax is Constitutional. It taxes all citizens the same. The more you spend the more you pay.

see, the problem I had with the fair tax and the flat tax, was that, Conservatives kept talking about them, but they wouldn't cut spending.  You'd cut spending. You've had my vote for a while Bob, please come to Augusta.

all things aside:

as many things that I don't like about Bob Barr, after watching this video on what I believe is the single most important issue of the election, he is the first candidate who gave the right answer this clearly. Even Ron Paul kinda glossed over the issue of spending in order to talk more about abolishing the income tax or ending the war.

I've been watching the Barr videos in chronological order and this is the first one where he actually earns points from me.

If the federal government was the size it's meant to be, i.e. next to nothing, then a 4-5% tax on imports would likely be more than enough to pay for the federal government's activities. And if we reduced all other tariffs and barriers on trade then our trade volume would increase and in a while we could likely reduce the tariff to 1-3% on foreign imported goods. A federal government were US citizens pay no direct taxes is not a pipe dream if we work in the right direction.

PLEASE BOB BARR....ARE you gonna kill and destroy the federal reserve system and try to use your power to put it back to its originall intent. I dont like the the fact that my tax dollars are being paid to private banks and into a debt system

Freedom isn't something that is given to you. It is something you have to stand on and claim sometimes by force. it is your's already. Don't let anyone have at it from you. The law is your's to be your protection, you do not belong to it for it to be your ruler at your expense, protection for all.

The problems bringing this nation down are not the minutia of how much to tax, how many more blacks than whites in jail is ok, etc. The problems are huge and caused by generations of offensive ideology in a downward spiral sold to dumb animals as progress. It is the rotting of a corpse, some of the cells may still prosper for a time ignorant of the fate of the whole, but the life has been crushed out of it and not even the priveleged will survive what is to come the path it is on.

We the persons. The individual man of this earth is peculiar and devine in it's peculiar and terminal charter, volition, free will, right of self and to hold and wield property uniquely as extension of self. but none has right to deprive same from another. How taxes are collected is MORE important than how much. lines are being crossed. The Income tax demands that one must accept it's slavery and live in a state of quasi incarceration or be subject to loss of life.

No man is born indebted to any man or group of men. Tax is a usery and an excise instrument. Rightful government may only tax what it creates by exercising lawfull authority in it's jurisdiction. It may not tax what exists by natural right or in otherwords what would naturally be so without said government. Income tax would be lawful if income was bad and made illegal and one's so-instituted privelege to recieve income was regulated, peculiar, and revokable; or if the govt provided income.

The flat tax is just a different version of the unlawful personal income tax. unlawful by the higher law of justice and truth that presides over the constitution. the government recognizes the constitution as the highest law because it is as high as the statutory beaucracy goes. there is a higher law by which statute must abide. to place a price on a mans head and take a portion of his labor is slavery. it is an offense. no man is in debt to the government for we are born free.

Bringing the soldiers home without a plan of occuppation or anything is dangerous too. I think our soldiers should be gradually removed from Iraq and trained more in domestic work, but that a small contingent (maybe a regular base) should be kept near Bagdhad.

You don't seem to understand. I don't mean bring the soldiers home from Iraq. I mean bring ALL the soldiers home. We have soldiers guarding Japan, we have soldiers guarding Germany, it's been over 60 years, I think we can stop worrying about the return of Tojo or the 4th Reich.

I justthink we need some American prescence around the world. Nowhere near as much as we have now, but I think it is important to have troops in various places abroad. No, we aren't expecting a return of the Germans with the Fourth Reich, but just being there is important. I think, though, that there should be some sort of business attached to military overseas so that they can be at least financially self-supporting to some extent.
