The Batmobile is the Mysterious Chariot that takes it's Master into and Out of Battle. It Transports and Protects it's Master Every Single Last Time No Matter What.
It is Menacing, Powerful,and Terrifying.
It's Mere Appearance Strikes Fear into the Very Hearts of the Men who intend to Oppose it, and it's Master, the Roman Knight of Gotham City.
Even those who Ally themselves with the Batman out of fear for their own Safety, Fear the Batmobile.
Personally, I'm always balanced in comparison between Nolan's Batman and Tim Burton's, because they really are different movies! 1989 Batmobile is the true Batmobile, as you can see in most of the comic books, Batman has a sport car, long, slick and with wings! The Tumbler is just an attempt to explain "how on earth" did Batman get his car! Thus, even though the Tumbler is a nice vehicle, is not actually a Batmobile, but just transportation! True, sole and lonely Batmobile; Anton Furst's!
in my english book theres a chapter about movies and this one is an example.that's good, but the thing that annoyed me is that they call the Batmobile a"bat car"!
i like the idea of the tumbler and it is one hell of a cool ride, and i`d give both of my balls to drive it once. but the mobile, ... lets say it suits batman better and for a ride with this dream of all superhero vehicles i`d cut of my joystick as well.
@subzero3cx8 Lol true. Though the Tumbler had a 500 hp Chevy racing engine so it definitely had the power and torque to move those huge wheels. As for 89 being a shell, I'm pretty sure they had at least one that had a fully detailed interior and everything for the scenes where Keaton and Basinger were getting in and out of the car. Plus, it seemed like every car they used had a functional sliding door whereas the stunt tumblers had a pop up door up top instead of the complex sliding thing
@subzero3cx8 Um, you do know they did film some of those chase scenes in BB at 90+ mph right? They even said in the behind the scene documentaries that the Tumbler had a 0-60 time of a little over 5 seconds. Not to belittle the Keaton car either though. That could go 100 or faster but they couldn't film at those speeds because of set restraints.
If movie directors, like Nolan, didn't have such egos, they would bring the exact same car back in the next film. The vehicle is not "out of style", in fact it was way ahead of it's time back in 1989. Fans of Burton would appreciate it and drool over it, and fans of Nolan will either like it or love.
Of course Burton's batmobile is better, cooler and more iconic, but Nolan was going for a realistic angle, and if we're going to be real - a manuverable tank thingy with good suspension is more appropriate than a lowrider.
@MarkArandjus the other thing is that i heard from someone [reason] that Nolan was thinking "how do we know how the Batmobile was made? Batman couldn't have just invented it. it had to come from somewhere", or something along those lines. but those people don't seem to get that Batman's not just a master detective, he's also a master INVENTOR. he's invented all these gadgets and stuff to help him in his fight against crime. AND, he's also invented and designed his own souped-up car, the ...
@MarkArandjus ..Batmobile, to his exact specs and customizations, to help and aid him in his fight against crime. he knows EXACTLY what he needs in his fight against crime, and he, being rich, uses his fame and wealth [and all the money he has] to build and design exactly what he needs, to HIS specifications. he doesn't NEED to get a military prototype. he can create his own car!
Can you imagine...A Mustang fan boy and a Honda Civic fanboy are at a redlight...they take off when the light turns green and race each other...just to see the batmobile blow by with the afterburners on =D
Quite easily the best Batmobile in the whole franchise..the "Tumbler" was just a mess...didnt fit in with the character....by the way what a tune!! Scarface!
Too bad Keaton's mobile can't do nothing except throwing grappling hooks and get busted if it hits something. The Batmobile is a weapon to fight crime. I doubt this car can even outrun the police on The Tumbler's chase scene in Begins.
And saying that Keaton's car is better than Bale's, it's the same as saying that an old Samsung cellphone is better / stylish than an iPhone 4. Just saying.
@ 3:07 rocks i wish that kind of tecnolgy excisted to were you could use a device to summen your car to pick you up i'd be the 1ST to have it installed in my 2004 GMC Sierra :)

By far the coolest Batmobile ever, and a real Batmobile, I agree the Tumbler was just a tank, neat features but not a real Batmobile.

I first saw this car in 1989 when the movie came out. Several months later I saw it for REAL at a car show!
