  • Kurt Russell should have played him, he looks a lot like the real killer

  • I am related to him O.o

  • Good video but music does almost drown out the narration...

  • I'm Related to this man...

  • @Gooseisgood731 "I'm Related to this man..."

    We all are ;)

  • 5:17 hes 17?? is that the right pic?

  • @azrial4421 Yes

  • @Sadclown456 does he look 17 to you?

  • @azrial4421 I know, back then they all looked older.

  • @azrial4421 Look at the 16-year-old girl, she looks 31.

  • Starkweather was a cowardly little piece of shyte

  • Hi, could you tell me who the music is by on your film?, especially half way through it works superbly, very haunting.

Very well made film in my opinion, very professional.

Have to say, watched through curiosity & out of total interest in the event.

A very sad moment in history.

Well made film though, keep up the great work.

  • Very nice..I've done a lot of reading on the Starkweather case..I am suprised by how many ppl do not know that "Badlands", "Kalifornia", and "Natural Born Killers" are all loosely based on the character of Charlie Starkweather..thanks for the vid!

  • For anyone interested, Wikipedia has much info on Starkweather and Fugate. They killed 11 people, Starkweather was executed in 1959. Fugate did 17 years and was paroled in 1976. It says she still lives in Lansing, MI and refuses to speak of the murders.

  • What happened to part 2? Seems us in the U.S. are now blocked from watching it because of some copyright violation.

  • 11 people wooow this dude is crazy

    but I think it's cool

    maybe I'm also crazy

    :D

just kidding this is a terrible story

  • I cannot follow this story as the music is too loud and the commentary to low

  • I thought this was well made although it is rather rushed but that is only because you did not have time to tell the story.

  • Is this teh same Charlse who worked at the Piggly Wiggly in Souix city during the great blackout of 56?

  • Narrator sounds like some stoned college kid

  • @Cakerolled yes the voice is emotionless, almost android-like. Maybe, this is some kind of narrating software that just reads the script.

  • good work

  • Great work .. you did a really good job with this.. you could be a future Nick Broomfield or Scorsese in the making... finding information and docs about starkweather on youtube is very difficult so I appreciate this.

part 2 has been blocked in my country now. it worked a few weeks ago because I watched it. anyway this is well worth watching to anybody thats interested in the subject and I highly recommend Sadclown's work! 5 ***** 10/10

  • Carol Fugate should have spent her life in jail.

  • One of my first employers went to school with charlie - he told me that charlie was not very bright, but that he was nice enough, until he met caril. once he met caril, he changed, and would do anything she wanted, trying to impress caril. i have always thought that caril was much more involved than people think. this was a horrible tragedy.

  • That asshole CHarles was worse than Perry Smith. I mean Perry Smith felt remorseful aobut what he did but he still is guilty but not as mucha s starkweater the bastard.

  • @catherinefan32

You should read some of the books. Charlie did have some remorse. After the killing spree was over and he had time to sit and think about what he did, he said "he felt like he was gonna throw up". And he also said that if could do it all over again, the only person he would kill would have been Marion Bartlett, cause he just didn't like him. Perry Smith, I think he was only remorseful cause there was no safe and no $10,000

  • I hear this guy smashed a two year old girls skull with his rifle butt then threw a knife in her throat. Thats messed up, he got it easy with the electric chair.

  • to sad clown.....this is real good....your voice volume is a little too low in areas.....other than that real good

  • another thing you have wrong is gus was shot in the back and dragged into the house, where he was later found

  • My last name is starkweather wonder if im related to him ???

  • god bless these two natrural born killers

  • @johnfinbarburke

    saddo

  • @grettoz moron f u

  • @johnfinbarburke

    get a brain twat

  • @grettoz i got a low iq u fuckin moron whazz ur exuuzs

  • @johnfinbarburke

wouldnt argue with you there paL !!!!

  • @johnfinbarburke wtf Charles killed inccocent people they cant be blessed. . He was a natural born bastard. I bet he s rotting in hell ringhtnow for those cold blooded murders.

  • what a monster...

  • His mother, is the one i felt sorry for, can you imagine how that woman must have felt??

  • I haven't read all the posts and your replies, but you have the sequence of the Ward killings completely wrong. The murders of Mrs. Ward and and their maid Miss Fencl occurred early in the day when Mr Ward was away at work and attending other meetings. He did not answer the door when Starkweather and Fugate arrived. It was Starkweather who met Mr. Ward inside the house when he returned home in the afternoon and immediately shot him with his shotgun while the women lay already dead upstairs.

  • Read first. I cut the events so they'd show better. Everything you tell me, I already know.

  • i believe you forgot to mention a guy he killed i believe in nebraska

  • I didn't miss anybody.

  • correct it was culvert

  • December 1, 1957. Robert Colvert.

  • hey nice video man

btw can u please tell me whats the name of the song that starts at 0:20 please

  • @MRROJINEGRO95 Its actually one of my brothers friends playing. He did most the soundtrack, aside from the obvlous.

  • is there any way to get hold of some mp3's of the songs you used ?

  • Heard stories about it from the Aunts and Uncles...growin up around Ansley Ne..where they past threw...just sounded so...so..surreal i guess...never heard how that baby was killed...evil

  • During your research did you find any audio of Starkweather speaking. I've heard some of Caril however all the video of Charlie is silent.

  • @CarilnCharlie I might have some on an old 8mm tape I used to find most the stuff on this docu. Im sure if there was footage, tied with some audio of him, I would have used it. Ill have to look.

  • I see you post a couple of new videos. Good job.

Did you happen to find any audio of Starkweather speaking?

And given your obvious interest in the subject what do you know about the 12th victim book that Caril and a couple of lawyers are putting out. I've seen a reference to the book in a LJS article but no where else.

  • Seems like it is hard to find any thing with Charlie speaking. Plus he was illterate and couldn't read nor write well. So it may had been doing an interview of him, would be out of the question.

  • I would call Charlie illiterate as he could both read and write. Although under pressure he couldn't seem to do either. I would guess he refused to do interviews which is why the audio is hard to come by. However I thought Sadclown456 may accidently have some audio given he has more video footage available then than any other source. I've read most of what is available on the subject that isn't just a rehash of what is already known however new video footage is very interesting to me.

  • @CarilnCharlie i am his great neice and i thank its time 2 let him rest in pece no one but charlie and that bitch knows what realy happend u guys r liveing in past

  • Apparently you are living in the past with us. Why patrol comment boards on youtube.

  • No Problem

  • He killed Colvert on Dec 1, 1957 not 1958

  • I know this. Strange how having to be under a certain specified time for this thesis project, I had to pull the events a little closer than they actually were, eh?

Thanks for taking time out your day to lay down a comment that's already been discussed up and down.

  • you should get an A*

  • Good film well made. Well done! A bit of editing wouldnt go amiss; think about the background music more carefully. And get a trained actor to do the voiceover. The speaker is clearly reading his lines and it sounds really amateurish. otherwise, good stuff.

  • I know. This was my thesis project for film school in Detroit. I did everything myself. Couldn't get a voice actor, had to travel to Nebraska to get the old 8mm and 16mm footage, etc, etc. I actually have several interviews with people related to Charlie and the victims. And the editing, that's just my style. =)

Thanks for watching, and the positive feedback.

  • Wow, who are the relatives? Charlie has 6 other siblings. Leonard still lives in Washington. Not sure how many of the Wards there are as I'm sure Mr. & Mrs. Ward had brothers and sisters and they likely had kids, but as for immediate family, the Ward's son Michael lives in New York City and has a daughter Liza. The Kings still have relatives there. I'm sure there are members of the Meyer family there. Sadly the Jensens have died, unless Mr & Mrs. Jensen have brothers and sisters that had kids.

  • brilliant job!

  • Very well made.

  • my mom lived in lincoln, nebraska at that time, she was 18 and lived with her older sister, my aunt marge. she remembers being sent home early from the hospital she worked at as a housekeeper emptying bed pans, cleaning bathrooms and shit cause starkweather was still on the loose and she should go home and lock the doors and don't open them except for the law. it's kinda funny now, but i'm sure it was'nt then.

  • im floored that she served only 18 years. its bullshit. only good lawyering could secure such a deal. no one can tell me she should free just because she susposedly never actually killed anyone. this case is a true injustice & scar on the face of Americas' legal system.

  • Brilliant, great job mate!!

  • Does anyone know what route they took from Lincoln to Wyoming?

  • I heard stories when i was a kid growing up around Ansley Nebraska...that he filled up there on there way to Wyoming...and that would be...Hwy 2...

  • Yep, Charlie took Highway 2 to right near the border, then Highway 20. Next year on my birthday, I want to head to Montana and see Custer's Last Stand (also happened on my birthday, June 25th). I'll likely fly to Denver then drive the rest of way. I-25 goes right through Douglas, Wyoming. I'd like to find out exactly where the Merle Collison killing happened as well as where Charlie got captured.

  • Highway 2 to near the Wyoming border. Then Highway 20. I believe I-25 runs along that part of Highway 20 now. I'd like to know exactly where the Merle Collison killing happened and where he was captured.

  • Shit, Fifteen years later Johnny RODGERS stuck a GUN In a gas station guy face and he a FUCKIN HERO!!!!!!!

  • it wasnt a gun...it was a candy bar

  • So, he blasted the clerks head off with a candy bar? Wow, I wonder what Snickers had in that shit back in the 50's!

  • Funny my friend, blasting it with a Snickers. Didn't know Snickers had guns that do that. Did you know that if Charlie Starkweather despite not liking gas due to the Wyoming gas chamber, would had stayed in Wyoming, he would probably had gotten a life sentence and be alive today. Because the Governor at the time, was a death penalty opponent. Sadly, nobody told him that or possibly didn't want to. As they may have wanted him to "ride the lightening" so badly!

  • Charlie's exact quote was "Wyoming has a gas chamber and I don't like the small of gas". It shows his stupidity, he likely thought the gas was gasoline and not cyanide gas. As for staying in Wyoming, it wouldn't have happened. Governor Milward Simpson was against capital punishment and stated he would immediately commute any death sentence, but he did say that if Nebraska authorities wanted Charlie he'd "sign extradition papers in a jiffy".

  • the reply was about Johnny Rogers...mmmmk

  • Comment removed

  • this is the best i have seen on starkweather love the sound effects very creepy thanks for makeing this

  • Great work. My mom lived in Crete, Nebraska when she was a kid, which is about 30 mins from Lincoln. Caril Ann Fugate now lives in Lansing, Michigan which is where my dad and step mom live.

So the Starkweather case has been of interest of me for awhile.

  • I just finished watching Badlands and i can see now how different the film was too the actual truth, i thought although a murderer he had style, and a certain degree of respect for the victims. But it turns out he was an extremely twisted human being, and i am amazed a women would fall in love with someone so horribly disconnected. good mini doc though 4 stars.

  • Really, really good all the way around....if you could've got a narrative voice to rise to the level of the rest of the movie it would have been perfect.

    >ken

  • An interesting piece; however, your information regarding the Ward murders is terribly false. Mr. Ward did not arrive home until the evening: the maid and wife had been killed prior in a horrific fashion, which your piece glosses over.

This piece features fantastic footage; however, I was struck by the Ward inaccuracy.

  • Thanks for watching. A few things are off because of a time limit placed on my film to fill a slot in a festival. Good ears.

  • Where is Belmont Street at? South in Lincoln? Good vid by the way! :)

  • Right off Cornhusker Highway & either 9th St. or 9th Ave. There's a shopping center there. The biggest store is a grocery store called Save-Mart

  • I was struck by the Ward inaccuarcy too. Sticks out like a sore thumb. Not even close to being right. All in all though, this is pretty well done.

  • you've put this together well, but the narration voice, is like mumbling, and incoherantly fast at points.

  • Thanks. That was me mumbling. Stick to editing, right?

I couldn't find anyone to help me when I was looking for voices to tell the story.

  • Don't be so hard on yourself, just because I'm a detail nazi. Overall this is superb work. Be proud!

  • my fav killers of all time

  • .. recently got hold of the book "caril" i dont think she was so innocent if you look at the psychology of all killer couples when they are caught they always blame each other .

ive read excerpets of his bio / even when he was a child he never fit in , maybe he was the reverse side of the james dean coin .but he never had his talent , tho in prison he tried to write or draw it ie his experience ///// fugate is not so innocent

  • ITS pretty weird how things work i live in lincoln to. its amazing how the historical museum doesn''t have anything on this but there were movies and books about it

  • the music is too loud in comparison with the talking

  • Comment removed

  • whats the song called in the beginning please mcould some one help me out

  • It's a Chemical Brothers remix, Life is Sweet. Enjoy.

  • True story: I dated a descendant of his, a great-nephew. They look very similar actually, and my name is Caroline...close to Carol. But see...if he and I had done it, we wouldn't have gotten caught. ^_^

But my ex is definitely too nice and intelligent to be a killer.

  • You're insane. Live in Nebraska or something?

    Thanks for watching!

  • Not clinically, yet. ^_^

Nope. KY. He's from SC and now he's in the Airforce.

  • I thought this was pretty good. Well done SadClown. I hope you got a good mark for your thesis.

  • I've tried to watch this twice. The music is terrible and annoying and the narrator is worse. Gonna look for a professionally produced documentary.

  • Watched it twice, eh? Couldnt have been that bad you ugly twat. Thanks for viewing!

  • FANTASTIC project sadclown.I've watched this doc of your's a half dozen times.Though a few facts were skewed this is excellent work on your part.Charlie was a worthless scumbag and total waste of DNA no doubt and deserved to ride the lightning.Personally I believe that C.F. was in it up to her neck but will stop short of saying that she killed any of the victims herself.I believe it's possible that she may have committed one or two homicides while accompying Starkweatehr on the killing spree.

  • CARIL FUGATE was a victim, not a murderer. she was not a killer, she was only 13, and at

3:36, you can see she looks at least 20 years old. she was so railroaded! they bought her older looking clothes, cut her hair short, and then BELIEVED that piece of shit starkweather, when he said she participated. if this happened today, she would have been seen as someone with stockholm syndrome, or at least been considered a kidnap victim, and she would have walked. that poor girl!

  • my dad still talks about these days like they were yesterday, he said charlie used to come in to randolph oldsmobile where he worked and sit in cars. He still doesnt get what happened to him. He tells me that everyone was afraid to go outside. GO HUSKERS, maybe weel kick some ass this year

  • eh...he doesn't look as cute as I thought. without the james dean look he's kind off plain

  • That's probably the best response I've gotten. hahahaha! made my day. Thanks for watching!

  • @heavyflower crazy bitch. lol

  • Ok,to everyone who thinks Starkweather is in Hell, your WRONG!

    he's in heaven!

Just because he's a murderer doesnt mean he's in hell I know where he is.'

    I also live in Lincoln.

    Charles Starkweather wanted attention!

  • That was completely out of nowhere! haha

    thanks for watching though

  • wait, so how do you know that he is in heaven then?

  • i know charlies great grand daughter we are bff's

  • Best Friends Forever, eh? I dont know if I can believe you dude...

    I'm Starkweathers bastard love child.

  • LOL hilarious. Charlie never had any kids. Thank God!

  • @MrNWA4Life no kids but he does have a great niece that is about as crazy as he was...WATCH OUT Lincoln Shelly is on the loss

  • Wow! Charlie had 6 other siblings, which one is her parent?

  • Shelly mom is Marilynn Starkweather....But I don't know her grandma name?

  • Charlie had one sister named LaVetta. What's Shelly's dad's name?

  • @Desireemik just cuz she is his niece dose not make her crazy he has 5 nephews 1 niece and alot of great nieces and nephews dont mean they r crazy it is people like u that give the starkweathers a bad name it has been over 50 years let it go let the familys he hurt live in pece

  • i saw the film of this its called murder in the heart land where tim rothplayes charlie and its a really good movie watch it guys ;)

  • good concept here, I hope you'll consider further edits to correct errors. First, in your intro, I think the events of 1957 would be more appropriate, as most of the crimes took place in Jan. 1958. (and in fact, the first victim Colvert died on Dec. 1, 1957, not 1958).

I really like the evocative mood of your montages; they create a sense of impending tragedy and also capture well the landscape. This is the strongest aspect of your work, imo. Also, I agree: great job using Springsteen!

  • Excellent job! Starkweather was trailer scum and he's so far down in Hell he's looking up Hitler's asshole!

  • I also live in Lincoln, Nebraska.

I remember from the 1993 television movie of "Murder in the Heartland" that Charlie said that Caril had nothing to do with any the killings on the way back to Lincoln.

I hope that "Murder in the Heartland" will be put onto DVD since the movie itself is a good drama based on the true story.

  • He swore up and down that Caril didnt do anything but so many people disagree, including me. Plus, that's a television movie man, an afterschool special... I love how to this day the only people that know what happened in 1958 are the Charlie and Caril Fugate. It's intriguing.

    Thanks for watching bro.

Where in L-town do you live?

  • Sadclown456,

I live in the northeastern area of Lincoln, in the Historical Havelock area. That part of Lincoln was once known as Havelock, Nebraska. At 01:14-01:17 is footage taken in my area of Lincoln. That is the part of Lincoln where I live.

There was another documentary back in 1988 of Charlie Starkweather, which I think was an episode of Dateline on NBC. I wish I still had the tape that my father taped it on.

  • Also Where Did You Say You Got Your Facts??

I Could Be Wrong But Have You Ever Heard Of A Book Called "Outside Valentine By Liza Ward?"

It Tells A Different Story Is All???

    Could It Be Wrong??

  • I live in Lincoln, NE so I just drove to the Bennit Martin library downtown and looked at micro film, read anything on the net and at all the more popular books. Drove out to the houses and death spots and got a feel for the thing... There are different takes on the events, who did what, how things worked, basically the order of things - So I looked at the story at every angle I could imagine. I really do feel special that people are watching this.

Never heard of the book, sorry. peace!

  • Thats cool, it just grabbed my attention a fair bit. The hole story has. I would love to be able to go check it out as much as you have. Most books arent all true, so its alright sorry.

  • Anything is better than researching on the internet though. Newspapers are better than anything when studying a murder spree.

  • Caril Didnt Want It To Happen But She Was So Inlove With Charlie She Didnt Really Care. Just Like With All The Other Murders She Was Basically Just Along For The Ride One Might Say.

  • omg.

    thats bullshit..

if i had a two year old sister, && my bf killed her.

I'd beat the fuckers face in.

  • To this day, people are still unsure if Caril wanted her family dead, so she could run off with Charlie. Her folks really hated the kid.

  • Do some more man. You did a nice job on this. Infact, I'd rather watch this than that piece of crap that came out in 2004....lol.

  • Thanks for watching! What came out in 2004?

  • good job

  • nice job

  • Love this coverage...hard to believe it was 50 years ago this week. One thing, I always heard C. Lauer Ward was at work when Starkweather and Fugate arrived. He was killed when he got home. And Merle Collison's car was a 1957 Buick. Still am very impressed with the video.

  • Yeah, you're right about Mr. Ward. I did that mainly for timing purposes. The docu. couldnt go over a certain time, so I cut a lot of the victims backgrounds out. Thanks for your input!

  • From NE- A few of your facts are off, but great footage. I really love the video to "Nebraska" (pt. 2).

  • Which facts?

  • At 08:08, After Charlie shoots the guy sleeping ,he couldnt get the car in gear. another passing car stopped thinking he needed help. Charlie pulled his gun on this guy,but this person fought back. Charlie was only good at shooting people in the back and murdering babys.

  • Thanks for watching. I realized this while researching the case. For documentary purposes, without contorting the true story too much, I ended the first part (Charlies capture) with the police ending it. From what I understand, the man that stopped at the car in Wyoming was an off duty officer. My sources could be wrong though. ciao

  • I also wanted to mention this was a great video on the subject.

  • Thanks bro, I appreciate it!

  • The guy that stopped at the car's name was Joe Sprinkle. he wasn't an off duty officer, he's been incorrectly called a geologist many times too. He had a job in the oil industry. I remember reading one of the newspaper clippings, they caught up with him 25 years later. He said he wasn't a hero, he just did what he had to do. Well yeah, it was either stop a cold blooded mass murderer or be the next victim.

  • This was absolutely amazing. Probably one of the better documentaries I've ever watched about Starkweather.

  • Ah! Thank you so much!

  • No, unfortunatly. I asked the surviving people that worked the case and they knew nothing of an interview with Charlie.

  • awesome footage you have of charles starkweather

  • Thank you! Ten bucks got me over 2 hours of stock.

  • For only $10? Where can I go buy some footage? The only thing I know the Bennett Martin library has is the big box with all the newspaper clippings. When I was there in June the Historical Society was closed for renovations. Sadly, it looks like it'll be 2011 before I go to Lincoln again. :-(
